Alejandro Garnacho has been told to leave the club by Amorim. This has come after the Portuguese manager confirmed his intention to stay at the club after a dismal first half season.

With his departure basically a guarantee, Garnacho will be looking to reinvent himself after a mixed tenure at United.
We’ve seen this before with Fred at Fenerbahce, Sabitzer at Borussia Dortmund, Antony at Real Betis, and of course, McTominay at Napoli. It’s almost as if there’s a pattern here.
Here’s where the Argentinian 20-year-old could be plying his trade next season:
Club | Odds | Bookmaker |
---|---|---|
Napoli | 5/4 | BetVictor |
Atletico Madrid | 6/1 | BetVictor |
Chelsea | 8/1 | bet365 |
Manchester United | 11/1 | bet365 |
Bayer Leverkusen | 12/1 | bet365 |
Another Manchester to Napoli Transfer? (5/4)
Napoli has already seen brilliant success with the signing of Scott McTominay, who was named the Serie A MVP as Napoli reclaimed their second title in three years.
Back in January, talks were already held by both clubs for this move, but the £60 million price tag proved to be a bit too rich for the Azzurri’s blood.
That price tag will likely drop as United will want to offload the player to avoid breaching FFP regulations. It would also fall in line with Ratcliffe's cost-cutting measures.
The move would seem to be the best fit. Antonio Conte’s counter-attacking system works well with Garnacho's playing style, plus the chance for Champions League football would be huge for the young winger.
A Return to Atletico Madrid (6/1)
Garnacho joined Athletic Madrid’s youth team in 2015 at the age of 11 and was eventually signed by United in 2020. Garnacho knows the system, the club, and is a Spanish speaker.
He’s also said to be a huge admirer of Diego Simeone’s no-nonsense style of play. Garnacho’s speed and determination will fit in well with that style.
There are a lot of reasons for Garnacho to head back to Madrid, but Atletico are also interested in several other Premier League players, including Darwin Nunez.
A Premier League Upgrade to Chelsea (8/1)
Todd Bhoely’s dressing room is looking like a clown car both in the number of players and, until recently, in playing style. They’ve massively improved, and after finishing in the Champions League spots, they have the funds to spend.
The main draws for Garnacho to join Chelsea include Champions League football, living in London, and the fact that he already has experience in the league.
The main issue is that Manchester United will be reluctant to strengthen a Premier League rival, so unless they fork out something exorbitant, a move is unlikely to happen here.
Can Garnacho stick with United? (11/1)
The odds here might as well be 1000/1, as unless something massive happens, a move is more than likely.
Financially, selling Garnacho makes perfect sense. As a youth academy graduate, Garnacho's transfer fee will be counted as 100% profits for the club, a huge boost for the struggling side.
Garnacho’s relationship with Amorim has been far from friendly. In February, Garnacho was subbed out in the first half vs Ipswich, and he made his feelings clear by leaving the bench.
Garnacho also complained about limited playing time in the Europa League final, after playing in every round, and when asked about his future at the club, he said, “I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next.”
The final nail in the coffin came in the form of an Instagram post by his partner Eva García. Posting a story of their son’s Manchester United kit with the caption: “Last Game”. Garnacho didn’t even make the squad.
No move would be an unbelievable turn of events.
Garnacho's United Career
Garnacho joined the Manchester United Academy in 2020 and was promoted to the first team shortly after.
He won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in May and scored a brace in that year's FA Youth Cup final.
Alejandro Garnacho joined the first team and went on to make 144 appearances, score 26 goals and win the FA Cup and the Puskas Award for his bicycle kick against Everton.
