Marc Guehi enters the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace as the 24-year-old looks set for a move away from Selhurst Park.

Marc Guehi playing for Crystal Palace, as a move to Liverpool is odds on this summer

Speculation over his future has intensified in recent weeks, with interest from Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal all vying for the services of one of England’s most promising centre-backs.

Last summer, Palace rejected several bids from Newcastle up to the tune of £70million, with Chairman Steve Parish stating it would take “super money” to prise one of their biggest assets away.

But twelve months later, and the realisation that Guehi is unlikely to sign a new deal, a move is odds on with the bookies, priced as short as 4/7 to join Liverpool with bet365.

A lifeline for the South London outfit is their participation in this season's UEFA Europa League after winning the first major trophy in the club's history by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Guehi has gone on record to suggest that he’s happy to see out the remainder of his contract, but the owners won’t want to see him leave for free at the end of the season.

If he is to go, the question that remains is, where?

Reds Guehi-t Serious: Liverpool 4/7 to Land Centre-Back

Liverpool’s relentless spending this summer looks set to continue. They’ve already splashed north of £115million on Florian Wirtz, along with Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili (returning from loan) and a deal as good as done for Bournemouth left-back, Milos Kerkez.

But it’s Jarell Quansah’s move to Leverkusen for a reported fee of £34million that will open the door to attain the services of Marc Guehi.

Representatives on Merseyside have already tabled a lucrative contract to the centre-back and are preparing a significant offer to Crystal Palace to get the transfer done.

The move makes sense for both parties. Liverpool gets a ready-made international that will slot in next to club captain Virgil van Dijk, and Guehi gets to join one of the best teams in world football.

Odds of 4/7 are undoubtedly short, but given the noise surrounding the deal and the shackles well and truly released on the Liverpool cheque book, it looks like the value play.

Geordie Shore Up? Guehi 4/1 to Join Newcastle Backline

Newcastle have been long-time admirers of Guehi, and even though they failed to get a deal done last summer following multiple bids publicly swatted away by Chairman Steve Parish, a deal is not yet dead in the water.

Eddie Howe sees him as an ideal replacement for the ageing Fabian Schar, who will be 34 in December.

Qualification for the 2025/26 Champions League adds depth to their lure, and given the quoted prices being significantly lower than twelve months ago, money shouldn’t be an issue.

The problem that the Magpies will have is competing against the likes of Liverpool for his signature. If the current Premier League champions weren’t in the mix, then this move would have some legs, but as a result, it’s a deal that’ll likely slip through the net on Tyneside.

Not Guehi-ng Anywhere: Palace 4/1 to Keep Star Man

Of course, there is the notion that Marc Guehi could stay put. He’s at a club that he loves and captaining a team that is very much on the up under the guidance of Oliver Glasner.

If they hadn’t qualified for the Europa League, staying at Palace likely wouldn’t even get floated, but a chance to rub shoulders with football’s elite could tempt him for one more year.

Financially, it is a short-sighted strategy from the club's perspective. It would lose them approximately £50 million, which is money that could be used to bolster a squad that, in its current form, is too thin to cope with the demands of Europe and the Premier League.

Even though Palace fans would be sad to see him go, he would leave after producing the greatest gift of all: a major trophy. That may just be enough to seal the deal as the search for his next club ramps up.
