Swedish superstar Viktor Gyökeres looks set to leave Sporting Lisbon at the end of the Liga Portugal season, and there’s no shortage of suitors keen to snap him up. With dozens of clubs in the mix, the options are wide open for one of Europe’s most prolific goal scorers, and for punters, too.

Gyökeres’ rise from a standout striker at Coventry City, where he impressed over two seasons starting in 2021, to one of Europe’s most feared goal scorers has been nothing short of remarkable. This season alone for Sporting Lisbon, he has netted an astonishing 52 goals in 48 matches during the 2024/25 campaign.
Put simply, if your team needs firepower, Gyökeres must look like a cannon ready to be aimed straight at the opposition’s goal.

When it comes to the odds, we think the bookies have served up a bit of a mixed bag in terms of value. In some cases, we think they’re spot on. In others, we believe they have missed the mark.
To help you figure out who is most likely to bring Viktor Gyökeres into the fold, we have picked out our top three contenders. Here’s where we think he could land next and whether the odds are worth a punt.
Gyökeres to Arsenal: The Perfect Fit?
Right now, it seems like Viktor Gyökeres and Arsenal are a perfect match. The Gunners have come so close to winning both the Champions League and Premier League titles, and the Swedish forward may just be the man to help them finish the job.
Equally important is that Gyökeres is more than just a goal scorer. With 12 assists so far this season, it feels like he would slot seamlessly into Arsenal’s versatile attack.
In a nutshell, he could be the missing piece for a team on the brink of dominating both European and domestic competitions. And Arsenal, with everything Gyökeres needs to continue his rise, could provide the perfect environment for him to develop into the world-class player he’s quickly becoming.
The only issue? The 6/4 odds (40% implied probability). However, we believe it really comes down to Arsenal and a couple of other clubs, and we’d consider the true value of those odds to be just above evens. Definitely worth a punt if you're comfortable with shorter odds.
Gyökeres to Manchester United: Will Connection to Amorin be Enough?
We never thought we’d see the day where we didn’t think Manchester United would be a good enough home for the top European strikers, but their disastrous Premier League season speaks for itself.
Gyökeres would clearly be a fantastic signing for Manchester United, who are still struggling up front despite big-money moves for the likes of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee. That said, compared to Arsenal, United represent a much riskier prospect for any player.
Without a real shift in momentum, Gyökeres could easily find himself stuck outside the Champions League picture long-term. And while it might seem far-fetched for a club of United’s stature, even the threat of relegation cannot be completely dismissed if things continue to spiral.
Really, the only thing keeping Manchester United in the conversation is the link between Viktor Gyökeres and former Sporting boss Rúben Amorim. As soon as the star manager made the move to Old Trafford in 2024, talks of a potential reunion began.
However, we don’t think that’s enough. Gyökeres’ ambitions to play in the Champions League are well-documented, and Amorim has stated they haven’t spoken about a move. In fact, he has even advised Viktor not to join if his focus is only on Champions League football. Taking all that into account, we believe the chances are slim, which is why we reckon those 4/1 odds (20%) aren’t worth the bother.
Gyökeres to Liverpool: Underrated Potential?
One potential move not seeming to get much attention is Gyökeres to Liverpool. But why not? He’s hoping to leave Sporting Lisbon as a champion, why not join an already crowned team and keep that momentum going?
Arne Slot’s first season as Liverpool manager has been a great success. You can’t really ask for much more than winning the Premier League on your very first try. But that doesn’t mean there are no chinks in The Reds armour. Both Newcastle and PSG exposed their vulnerabilities in knockout competitions, highlighting areas that still need attention.
Plus, with the potential departures of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Núñez, Liverpool will want to keep their attacking ranks fully stocked to maintain the momentum they have built this season and to push for even greater success.
Add to that the dual factors of a reported record-breaking summer transfer budget and stiff competition for targets like Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen, and it’s easy to imagine Gyökeres receiving a very tempting offer before long.
The odds are pretty tasty too, with bet365 offering 14/1 (6.7%). While we would not say it is overwhelmingly likely that Gyökeres ends up at Anfield, we would put the true probability closer to 20 percent. That means we think the bookies have missed the mark by more than three times.
In our view, this represents the best value on offer among all the Gyökeres transfer specials.
