World Athletics Championships Betting Tips
We will present you the World Athletics Championships betting tips that catch our eye in the build up to the event. Check out our selections and use them to develop a betting strategy for the championships.
Keely Hodgkinson to win 800m
Olympic Champion Keeley Hodgkinson has missed most of the season with injury. However, she is back with a bang having recorded the fastest time in the world this year with a 1:54.74 clocking at the Silesia Diamond League before winning comfortably at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting. Electing to miss the Diamond League Final in Zurich to concentrate on preparing for Tokyo, Hodgkinson is fresh and inform. She will be the one to beat.
Femke Bol win 400m hurdles
With Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone stating that she will compete in the 400m rather than the 400m hurdles, we feel that the path is clear for Femke Bol to win this one. Bol has shown great consistency, and we are confident that she will come away with the gold medal.
Kishane Thompson to win 100m
The 100m is always one of the most keenly anticipated events, and we are backing Kishane Thompson this year. The Jamaican is in blistering form and looks to be the man to beat.
Eleanor Patterson to medal in the high jump
The Australian has been incredibly consistent on the world stage over the recent years. We are tipping Patterson to bag another medal.
Most Popular World Athletics Championships Betting Markets
Athletics betting comes to life during the major championships and there are several interesting athletics markets for World Championships betting. We have the lowdown on the most popular.
This market is self-explanatory. You simply bet on the athlete you think will win the event in question. For example, you would bet on the winner of the men’s 100m.
Here, you can bet on an athlete to come through the heats and make the final. You can also bet on the race winner in individual heats for track events.
You can bet on an athlete to win a medal in an event. So, if they finish in the first three, your bet will win.
You can back an athlete each-way. This means the bet is divided in two parts. One part is for the athlete to win, the second part of them is to place, which, in athletics, means the first three.
Here, the bookmaker will provide head-to-head markets on selected athletes. Simply choose the athlete you think will come in first out of the two selected. It doesn’t matter where they finish in the race overall, only the result between the two selected athletes matters for your bet.
You can bet on which nation will finish top of the medal table. Remember that the medal table is determined on the number of gold medals won. Silver and bronze medals only come into play in the event of a tie.
Matchups: Great value if you have done your research!
Chris Sampson: I find matchups to be one of the best value markets for athletics betting, and this is surely the case in the World Championships. Through studying other important races throughout the season, especially the Diamond League, and through looking at statistics, you get a sense of which athletes thrive under certain conditions and can make an informed pick on who will come out on top. When you have lots of world class athletes together, picking a winner between two is a simpler task than going for an outright winner. It is also easier to see when a bookie has undervalued an athlete, which allows you to get more value.
