Now let’s have a look at our reasoning behind our picks.
Bet One: Luton Town to be Promoted (1/1)
Two years ago, Luton Town were gearing up for the Premier League, the first time they had been in England’s topflight in 30 years. The Hatters were relegated in 2024 and began last season with something of a hangover which cost boss Rob Edwards his job. Under Matt Bloomfield they ended the season in better shape, and three wins from the last four matches in the Championship will provide some encouragement after only 19 victories from their last 84 league games during their back-to-back relegation campaigns.
Former Wycombe Wanderers boss Bloomfield knows the division very well. His side was second in the table when he left to take charge at Kenilworth Road. Luton have bought well this summer, stand out names being Nahki Wells and Hakeem Odoffin and have a lot of quality in their squad. If the attitude is right, we think that they will have too much for most teams in the league and agree with the bookies' assessment of their chances.
Bet Two: Huddersfield Town to be Promoted (7/4)
Huddersfield Town were well in the mix for promotion last season before the wheels came off in spectacular fashion. Michael Duff was relieved of his duties in March after a disappointing sequence had seen them drop out of the play-off places. However, the change did not have the desired effect and the Terriers slumped to 10th place finish under caretaker manager Jon Worthington with eight defeats in the final 10 games of the season.
The appointment of Lee Grant has given cause for optimism this time round. The former goalkeeper worked on Kieran McKenna’s staff at Ipswich Town and is committed to playing attacking football. Forward Alfie May and USA international winger Lyndon Gooch headline some impressive signings and if Grant can get them to gel then the Championship could be beckoning. We think that the Terriers will go up.
Bet Three: Lincoln City to be Promoted (12/1)
For our third pick we have picked up on a team who we believe have been underestimated by bookies and pundits alike. Lincoln City finished 11th in the table last season. They made a great start to the season before fading away. Although they have lost Sean Rouhan and Paudie O’Connor, two key men in defence, the acquisition of Sonny Bradley will help offset this.
When you dive into the League One Stats from last season, many of the metrics suggest that the Imps were unfortunate not to finish higher. Boss Michael Skubla has a young team, and they are only going to get better. At the very least they will be in contention to make the play-offs. We feel that 12/1 has them seriously undervalued and if you are looking to back an outsider for promotion then Lincoln is a great choice.
