Now let’s have a look at each game and see the reasoning behind our picks.
Bet One: Aston Villa vs Bologna – Under 2.5 Goals (5/6)
To say that Aston Villa have had problems scoring goals this season is a gross understatement. Unai Emery’s side have only found the net twice in six competitive matches. However, other than the chastening 3-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace Villa have been fairly difficult to score against. That match at the end of August is the only time they have shipped more than one goal in a game this season and there have also been clean sheets against Newcastle United and Everton.
Bologna have not scored away from home this season. Our stats hub shows that 75% of their matches have featured less than 2.5 goals and in four Serie A matches they have scored three and conceded three. If there is a goal on Thursday evening it is likely to be the deciding one and we feel that odds of 5/6 are decent value to start our acca off with.
Bet Two: Rangers vs Genk – Over 2.5 Goals and BTTS (10/11)
Both sides come into this match on the back of disappointing starts to the season. Rangers are languishing in 11th place in the Scottish Premiership with boss Russell Martin under severe pressure from the club’s fanbase. Genk also have their problems and are down in 14th place in the Belgian Pro League.
Rangers’ league games have not featured many goals, however, in Europe and in the Scottish League Cup there have been goals at both ends. Genk have scored 10 in the league but have conceded 12 while their Europa League play-off matches saw a 6-3 aggregate win over Lech Poznań. We feel that both teams will be shaky at the back and that there will be goals at both ends.
Bet Three: FC Red Bull Salzburg vs FC Porto – Porto to Win and Over 2.5 Goals (21/10)
Porto will travel to Austria full of confidence after winning their first six league matches of the season. They sit three points clear of Sporting at the top of Portugal’s Primeira Liga having scored 15 times with only one goal against. We fancy them to score a couple in Salzburg.
Red Bull Salzburg have had an inconsistent start to the season. They are currently fifth in the Austrian Bundesliga with three wins, two draws and two defeats from their opening seven games, scoring 15 times but conceding 10. In Europe they exited the Champions League with a defeat over two legs to Club Brugge. There are goals flying in at both ends in their matches this season and we think that this will be the case on Thursday. We also think that Porto will have too much for them.
Bet Four: Stuttgart vs Celta Vigo – Over 2.5 Goals and BTTS (5/6)
Both sides have been scoring and conceding regularly so far this season. Stuttgart have scored five and conceded five in their five league games while their German Cup match against Eintracht Braunschweig saw them go through on penalties after a 4-4 draw.
83% of Celta’s league games have seen both teams scoring and in their six matches they have conceded seven goals and scored five. We think that there will be more than three goals in this one and we also feel that both teams will get on the scoresheet.
