Rangers have sacked Russell Martin after only 123 days in charge after a disastrous start to the season. There had been speculation around Martin’s future for weeks amid fan protests and the former Southampton boss has now been relieved of his duties. The Ibrox outfit will be keen to get a successor in place ahead of the international break and the bookies have wasted no time in getting the next Rangers manager odds out, with Steven Gerrard the early favourite to return.

Steven Gerrard is the current favourite to replace Russell Martin at Rangers.

Next Rangers Manager Odds: ‘Gers Looking for Seventh Boss in Four Years

The Rangers job has become something of a poisoned chalice in recent years with six managers, four of them permanent, in just four years. And the best bookmakers in the UK have wasted no time in getting their odds out there for Martin’s replacement, with Steven Gerrard, who led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021, the 6/4 favourite. Now let’s have a look at the leading contenders for the Ibrox hot seat in more detail.

Steven Gerrard: Former ‘Gers Boss Early Favourite

Gerrard took over as Rangers boss in the summer of 2018 and steered the Light Blues to the Scottish Premiership title in 2020/21, denying rivals Celtic 10 titles in a row. He left for Aston Villa in November 2021 but has failed to recapture the heights of his time in Glasgow since, both at Villa Park and in his next post at Al-Ettifaq. This could be a move that suits both Rangers and Gerrard, who has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq in the summer. We think that this could well happen. If you agree, you might want to get in quickly before the odds shorten.

Sean Dyche: Former Everton Boss Available

Sean Dyche has a reputation as a fire-fighter and there are definitely a few fires to put out at Ibrox with Rangers in disarray. Dyche is not currently in a post so Rangers would not have to pay compensation. And Dyche may well be keen to test himself at a club of Rangers’ stature. Dyche was the favourite for the job last month when speculation was rife following Rangers' home defeat to Hearts.

Derek McInnes: Former Rangers Midfielder Flying With Hearts

Former Rangers midfielder Derek McInnes turned down the job in 2017. McInnes has made a flying start to his tenure at Hearts, steering the Jam Tarts to the top of the table. McInnes, being a former Rangers man, might be tempted. However, with his project in Edinburgh going so well we would be surprised to see him leave at this stage.
