Four more first-leg clashes take centre stage in the Champions League play-off round on Wednesday, with the top eight from the group stage already safely through to the last 16. That leaves plenty at stake, and we’ve put together a stunning 26/1 acca covering all four crucial encounters.
Wednesday’s Champions League Acca Tips: Brugge the Headliners in 26/1 Bet
Interestingly, none of last year’s play-off phase first leg games ended in a draw. The old days of cagey first legs are largely gone – teams now push to seize control early, and we’re going for four big wins on Wednesday night.
Our 4-fold is priced up by Betfred, one of the best bookmakers around, and their 2 Up Early Payout feature adds value to this bet. These matches can swing quickly, with fast starts and dramatic comebacks possible. Crucially, if any of our teams go two goals up and don’t go on to win, we’re still paid out on that leg as a winner with Betfred.

Bet 1: FK Qarabag v Newcastle – Newcastle to Win
This game represents 22nd v 12th from the group stage, and there is a clear difference in quality. Just when poorly performing Newcastle looked to have a nightmare run of four away games to contend with, that nightmare has become more of a dream.
An apparently impromptu dressing room meeting after their defeat to Brentford, run by Bruno Guimaraes, left Newcastle’s players looking at themselves and vowing to improve for Eddie Howe. They have certainly achieved that.
The Magpies claimed a 2-1 win at Tottenham in the Premier League, before overcoming a good side and some questionable officiating to win 3-1 at Aston Villa in the FA Cup. They may not fancy their chances too much at Man City this weekend, but a third away win in just over a week could be incoming in Baku.
Qarabag managed seven points at home in the group stage, but conceded a total of eight goals to Copenhagen, Chelsea, Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt. Newcastle beat Union SG and managed away draws with Leverkusen and PSG, scoring eight times themselves. Back the Mags to swoop and get us off to the perfect start.
Bet 2: Bodo/Glimt v Inter Milan – Inter to Win
The starting point for many here would be the perceived indication that Bodo are strong at home. The Norwegians beat Man City 3-1 in the group stage, as well as drawing 2-2 with Spurs and losing out narrowly to Juventus and Monaco. In truth, they caught both English sides at just the right time.
Inter are as short as 20/1 to win the whole competition and will arrive with purpose. The Italians won 2-0 at Ajax, 4-0 at Union SG and, more impressively, 2-0 at Dortmund in the group stage. The Aspmyra Stadion is considered a difficult place to visit, but Inter will be professional and can do a job on the hosts.
Bet 3: Club Brugge v Atletico Madrid – Brugge to Win
So much of our bet hinges on Brugge having a big night at 3/1, but there are some basic facts backing up why we fancy them to strike. The Belgians have been excellent at home in the Champions League, taking care of Monaco (4-1) and Marseille (3-0), while also drawing 3-3 with Barcelona. True, Arsenal won 3-0 on their patch, but the Gunners finished with a perfect record, which included hammering Wednesday’s opponents.
Atleti lost 3-2 at Liverpool and 4-0 at Arsenal, drew 1-1 at Galatasaray and got past PSV 3-2. Taking the results of the eight games mentioned literally, we’re looking at an aggregate score of 20-13 in favour of the home side, with both teams having played Arsenal.
In terms of recent domestic form, Atletico lost 3-0 to Rayo Vallecano at the weekend, while Brugge were winning away. There’s enough evidence to go for a big home win here, especially as Brugge will put everything into this opening leg, desperate to take a lead to the Metripolitano next Tuesday.
Bet 4: Olympiakos v Bayer Leverkusen – Leverkusen to Win
This is a rerun of a group stage match played on January 20 – a crucial one in terms of us receiving betting value. Olympiakos won that game 2-0, but all is not as it seems.
In that game, Leverkusen had 17 shots to the home side’s six, winning eight corners to their two. They dominated in truth, with the timing of the Olympiakos goals being crucial. The Greek side scored in the second minute, and just when Leverkusen were gaining a foothold, the killer second goal came in first half injury time.
Olympiakos were able defend deeply and hold onto what they had from that point, but the situation won’t play out the same way twice. Leverkusen are in great form, beating Werder Bremen, Villarreal, Eintracht, and St Pauli 3-0 (cup) and 4-0 (league) since that defeat in Greece.
Before that anomaly of a Champions League result, Leverkusen drew in Copenhagen and won at both Benfica and Man City. They have the quality, and will most certainly want to set the record straight in Piraeus.
