The Premier League is back, and I’m looking forward to Sunday afternoon’s action. I’m also looking forward to seeing how my trio of bets, which form a 13/1 treble, plays out.
TL;DR – My Premier League Best Bets for Sunday
Using data from our stats hub Kickform I found three great value wagers. I steered clear of Crystal Palace against Newcastle United due to the uncertainty I feel about both teams going into this game. Palace have been poor at home while Newcastle have struggled on the road. The Eagles’ European commitments could affect things while United have had three weeks since their last fixture and should, in theory, be well prepared. The Magpies have underachieved this season, so we simply don't know which Newcastle United will turn up.
Thankfully, the other three matches can be approached with a little more confidence. I think the bookies underrate the combative side of Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and have underestimated Man City’s chances of returning from Stamford Bridge with three points. The number of cards generated by Chelsea, Sunderland and Spurs this season also provide a great chance to find value.

Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa: Elliot Anderson Over 2.5 Tackles
I thought about backing Villa here because I think that the bookies have underestimated them a little. They have a good away record and Forest have dropped a lot of points at home. But with both sides in European action on Thursday evening things are a little less clear cut. In addition, Villa have lost a little ground in the Premier League as a whole and in the away table in particular, since the turn of the year. So, I decided to stay away from this angle.
I have been drawn to Elliot Anderson a number of times when betting on Forest this season. Many people rightly talk about his technical quality and passing but his ability to mix it is overlooked. He makes more tackles and concedes more fouls than a lot of people would think. Our Kickform Stats show that Anderson has made an average of 2.92 tackles per 90 minutes this season. So, 4/7 to make over 2.5 tackles against Villa is a decent price.
Sunderland vs Tottenham Hotspur: Over 4.5 Cards
This is another match where I didn’t feel comfortable backing the result. Despite their win in the Tyne-Wear derby, Sunderland have been patchy since the turn of the year and have suffered a couple of home losses recently. A good run towards the end of the season could see them earn their first European campaign since the 1970s but whether they have that in their locker after over-achieving this season is debatable.
The new manager bounce didn’t exactly work for Tottenham when they dismissed Thomas Frank. But having dispensed of the services of Igor Tudor after a short but disastrous reign, they will be hoping for a reaction. Roberto De Zerbi has signed up for the long-term, and he will be determined to come away with something as he looks to drag Spurs away from relegation. I don’t trust this Spurs side, so I won’t be backing them.
The two sides do though share a tendency to accumulate cards. Spurs have averaged 2.55 cards per match while Sunderland have averaged 2.19, the third and sixth highest in the Premier League this season. Given that you would hope the Spurs players will be showing plenty of commitment in front of a new manager, I think that evens at bet365 for over 4.5 cards in this match looks decent value.
Chelsea vs Manchester City: City to Win & Over 2.5 Cards for Chelsea
Chelsea have been inconsistent and flaky of late. It will take more than a clinical dismissal of Port Vale to convince me otherwise. Man City on the other hand claimed the first trophy of the season with a convincing win over league leaders Arsenal in the Carabao Cup before the international break and then swept Liverpool aside in the FA Cup last weekend. We think that the bookies have taken their eye off the ball here and have underrated their chances in this one. Kickform are backing City to win this one and I am in agreement.
This is another game for betting on cards. Kickform’s stats show that the Blues top the Premier League for cards with an average of 2.58 per game. I thought that this represented a good chance to increase the odds by backing Chelsea to pick up at least three cards on Sunday.
