Betfred and William Hill, two of the very best horse racing betting sites, have priced up these races for us. Godolphin’s main rider William Buick could be on for a great week, and he once again rides my Goodwood best bet in the shape of Opera Ballo.

My Glorious Goodwood Best Bet
Opera Ballo – 4:10 (Sussex Stakes)
I backed this horse early, giving him a mention on our Glorious Goodwood betting page. The Sussex is a proper championship race, with the Classic generation meeting the older horses for the first time. We’ve seen it already over 1¼ miles (Eclipse) and 1½ miles (King George), but now it’s the turn of the milers to get it on and see who’s best.
What’s extraordinary here is that Tuesday’s Lennox Stakes betting market 1-2, Lake Forest and Qirat, are also declared for this race. Never before has a horse attempted to run in both races, and now we might see two.
Bow Echo is the market leader here, the unbeaten three-year-old who gave off Frankel vibes when he won the 2000 Guineas. His sire, Night of Thunder, also won the Guineas, and while having a great season thereafter, didn’t necessarily improve.
This horse went on to win at Royal Ascot, but did something similar to his daddy in that his run did not take him forward. I find that interesting, and it makes him vulnerable.
Gstaad has finished second to Bow Echo twice and there’s nothing in the form book to suggest he can overhaul him now, leaving me looking at the best of the four-year-olds. The best, undoubtedly, is Opera Ballo.
Godolphin’s runner put up a huge display in the Sandown Mile back in April. He then attempted to bolt out of the gates in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot and run them ragged. He nearly did, but was caught close home. That’s a hard tactic to execute at Ascot and he was terrific in defeat, but Goodwood and its bend into the straight are different.
Opera Ballo is a typical Ghaiyyath. I can see him pinging the stalls and just going hell for leather, or at least stealing a march as they enter the straight. He could be very hard to catch.

Glorious Goodwood Wednesday Tips: My Next Best Bet
Wild Blossom – 2:25 (Conditions Stakes)
Wild Blossom is one of two big chances on the card for trainer Karl Burke and owners Wathnan Racing. I’m backing them both.
What they have in common, other than ownership and yard, is the fact that they were both outstanding on debut before not being able to get the job done at Royal Ascot. That does not make them any less exciting for the future.
This Wild Blossom, a daughter of Mehmas who gets plenty of precocious juveniles, ran well despite being on the wrong side of the track at Ascot. She was absolutely explosive on debut at Carlisle though, and even lowballing her potential rating here puts her 10lbs ahead of the rest, at least for me.

My First Glorious Goodwood Value Bet
Infraad – 1:50 (Handicap)
The opening mile-and-a-half handicap is for three-year-olds only, so there are plenty of unexposed types here. That makes betting tricky, but William Haggas’ Infraad did stand out when I handicapped the race.
Infraad is another Ghaiyyath offspring, and therefore I have no doubts about his potential to improve, nor his willingness to battle. He was unlucky at Chester last time, when he was slow to get away and was checked in his run.
Not many proper racing people like betting at odds on, and certainly not in a handicap, so it’s noteworthy that this lad was punted from an opening show of 4/5 at Chester right into 8/13. Plenty was expected of him that day, trust me.
He does face Hatteen here who won the new St Leger Trial race at Donny. Time will tell if that’s a decent prep for the final Classic of the year or not, but it’s worth mentioning that Andrew Balding is in awesome form and feels he can bag a handicap with his contender.

My Next Glorious Goodwood Value Bet
Ruler’s Pride – 3:35 (Molecomb Stakes)
This is the second of the Wathnan Racing and Karl Burke runners. Ruler’s Pride, another son of Mehmas in fact, went big at Ayr on his debut and was put firmly in the “could be anything” category.
The step up to six furlongs at Ascot wasn’t perhaps the right move, as he looks all explosive energy and speed, and he swims in much shallower waters here.
