Glorious Goodwood Betting Tips & Predictions 2022
Glorious Goodwood is great for betting; however, picking a winner can be tricky. That’s why we try to publish the best Glorious Goodwood tips possible. To do this, we review form, fitness, and the team behind a horse, along with any other variables that can affect the outcome of a race. See below for more!
The Goodwood Cup Betting Tips
- In this year's Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup in England, Kyprios recently held back threats from 4-year-old Mojo Star and kept the 8-year-old Stradivarius from achieving a record-equalling win.
- Performing against Mojo Star with odds of 8-1, Kyprios, ridden by Ryan Moore, took the big race, winning by a half length at 2.5 miles, resulting in the longest race of his career. In front of the popular 2-1 Stradivarius, Mojo Star finished off 3/4 of a mile in a field of nine.
- Through the stretch, all contenders had their chance to take the win. Closing ground in the last furlong, Stradivarius just couldn’t reach the first two younger finishing horses in his attempt to win a fourth Gold Cup. After racing through traffic in the early stretch, he was moved to the outside and toward the back end of the field with 3 furlongs still remaining in the race. By the end, Mojo Star and Kyprios, both four years younger, prevailed.
- In earlier races this year, Kyprios had also won two other 1 ¾ Irish races (the Vintage Crop Stakes on 23 April and the Group 3 Levmoss Stakes on 13 May). So most eyes are on the young 4-year-old colt ridden by Ryan Moore, Kyprios, followed closely by Richard Hannon’s Mojo Star, owned by Amo Racing Limited.
Nassau Stakes Betting Tips
- In the Prix de Diane at Chantilly, Nashwa recently provided Hollie Doyle with a thrilling victory. With fine display at the Oaks at Epsom, Nashwa recently chased home the front two, Tuesday and 3-year-old Emily Upjohn on 19th June. Although the latter was the favourite, Tuesday edged her out with a head-bobbing finish, resulting in Emily Upjohn breaking her unbeaten record.
- Inspiral was an unbeaten 15-8 favourite in the Coronation Stakes, taking the breath-taking win and giving Frankie Dettori a great day to celebrate. For the Nassau Stakes, frontrunners are Inspiral at 2/1 and Nashwa at 5/1, closely followed by Tuesday.
King George Stakes Betting Tips
- Among 19 confirmations for the Qatar King George Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival on Friday, three previous winners have been named. In 2009, 2013 and 2014, respectively, it was Kingsgate Native, Moviesta and Take Cover that won the event. And all will be returning to try their luck to win a boosted purse of £300,000 year.
- Four-year-old Twilight Calls chased home Nature Strip after coming in at an impressive, valiant second at Royal Ascot last week. Trainer Henry Candy has his eyes set on King George, saying ‘With each run this year he has improved'.
- The jockey William Buick also showed us what French raider Suesa is made of after claiming the 30 July King George (G2) race recently. With odds of 7/2 for Suesa and 5/1 on Twilight Calls, changes are looking sweet.
- Both Muthmir and Pearl Secret were third and fourth in the Royal Ascot Group One King’s Stand Stakes, a five-furlong sprint that has tripled in value for this year.

History of the Glorious Goodwood Festival
The Glorious Goodwood Festival is the signature event at Goodwood Racecourse each year, which is considered by many to the be world's most beautiful venue for horse racing. The event itself has a long and storied history that is intimately tied to the Duke of Richmond, his family and the sprawling estate known as Goodwood House.
The first Duke of Richmond, who was the illegitimate son of King Charles II, acquired the Goodwood House in 1697 and made it his official seat. However, the first horse race was not held there until 1801. This was during the reign of the first Duke's grandson, the third Duke of Richmond.
The Beginnings of the Glorious Goodwood Festival
The Glorious Goodwood horse racing festival began in 1802 and was initially intended to be an event for local army officers of the Sussex Militia. One year earlier, the Earl of Egremont had refused allowance for the Third Duke of Richmond to hold his annual races on the Earl’s property in Petworth Park. This led to the establishment of a two-day race meeting on the Goodwood Estate. The event proved to be extremely popular and was quickly expanded to three days, with races applicable to Jockey Club rules.
In 1812, the Goodwood Cup was established, and in 1814, the meeting was moved from May to the end of July, where it has remained ever since. The timing proved to be perfect for the aristocracy to attend before retreating to their rural summer estates. Goodwood also happens to be the course that introduced starting races with a flag, pre-race horse parades, numbers on horses and the first race cards into horse racing, making it a historically important venue for racing, too.
Glorious Goodwood’s More Recent History
Over the past couple of centuries, Goodwood Racecourse has established itself as one of the world's most prestigious, with the Glorious Goodwood Festival having built a reputation within the sport that can only be described as legendary. Some of the world's greatest racehorses have competed, including all-time greats such as Frankel, Brigadier Gerard and Dancing Brave.
1971 was a particularly notable event. It saw the legendary Brigadier Gerard coast to a victory of five lengths. 1986 saw another one of the most notable events in the history of the Glorious Goodwood Festival as Dancing Brave landed the Select Stakes shortly after achieving victories in the King George, the 2000 Guineas, and the Eclipse during that same calendar year.
The Present Status of the Glorious Goodwood
In recent event history, legendary racehorse Stradivarius has cemented his place in the history books of the Glorious Goodwood by bringing home a record four Goodwood Cups.
With such an incredible history to draw upon, it is no surprise that there is plenty of excitement surrounding the upcoming 2022 edition of the Glorious Goodwood Festival. This year's competitors will look to cement their own legacies within the annals of this world-renowned horse racing event. At the same time, punters from around the world will be placing their bets with all of the best bookies for horse racing.
