Manchester United host Ipswich Town on Sunday 30th August and I’ve taken a sweep of the markets to see where the value lies. The opening weekend was a contrasting tale for the pair. It’s a game that, on paper, Man United are strong favourites for, but after last weekend’s defeat, even as early as Gameweek 2, there is some pressure for Michael Carrick’s side to get off the mark. Let’s jump in.
TL;DR – My 7/2 Bet Builder for Manchester United vs Ipswich Town
| Bet | Odds at Betfred | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Manchester United to win | 2/5 | 3 |
| Sesko 2+ shots on target | 4/6 | 1 |
| Nunez 2+ fouls committed | 21/20 | 2 |
| Bet builder | 7/2 | 1 |

Bet 1: Manchester United to Win
Ipswich got off to the dream start on their Premier League return, securing all three points against an error-laden Sunderland side. It took them 11 games to get off the mark under Kieran McKenna, and for most, it will be a relief that it’s not taken close to that this time around.
I really like how Gary O’Neil has got the side set up. They have a bit about them and a good balance of pace and quality up top. Daizen Maeda was particularly impressive, and new signing Emerson looks a handful as well.
Even though it was a nightmare start for Carrick and his merry men against another newly promoted side in Hull City, I’m not too concerned about their trajectory this season. The added pressure of managing the Champions League is not exactly foreign to the club, but it is for a lot of staff, so it’ll be interesting to see how they go once that fires up in a few weeks.
They will, however, be desperate for a win and a statement win at that. The best betting sites price them at 2/5, which isn’t huge, but I think a win on Sunday is the most plausible result by some distance.

Bet 2: Benjamin Sesko 2+ Shots on Target
Not starting Benjamin Sesko against Hull surprised me. I thought the Slovenian finished strong last season and would have been given the chance to lead the line this time around.
However, Carrick opted to start Cunha in the false 9 role, which ultimately backfired as they looked toothless going forward for much of that first half. When Sesko finally came on in the 66th minute, they had more structure and looked dangerous with a focal point up top.
I fully expect Carrick to give Sesko a start on Sunday and I’m backing him to take his chance. 2+ shots on target is priced at 4/6, and there’s just enough meat on that bone to get excited about.
Bet 3: Marcelino Nunez 2+ to Commit 2+ Fouls
Marcelino Nunez is going to be a pivotal player for Ipswich this season. The Chilean was superb in their opener against Sunderland and even grabbed a goal midweek to help Ipswich cruise past Leicester City in the EFL Cup.
He’s a tenacious player with a little bit of bite, which I really like. Sunday will be a very different test for the Tractor Boys, and if they are going to get anything from it, Nunez, amongst others, will need to play another blinder.
I like that he will be going up against the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Cunha in the middle of the park. Both have high fouls drawn stats, so backing Nunez at 21/20 to commit two or more fouls makes a lot of sense here.
