Bet 1: Arsenal to Win the Premier League

Apologies for being boring, but do I seriously have a choice?

With almost half of the Premier League clubs bringing in new managers, this feels very much like a season for transition. Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham — all of them are going through some pretty major changes, while Arsenal are one of the few top dogs sticking to the same plan.

Fresh from lifting his first Premier League title, Mikel Arteta has wasted no time strengthening his champions, bringing in the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Piero Hincapie. And knowing Arsenal, there could still be more business to come before the window slams shut.

Then there’s the small matter of Sunday’s Community Shield, where the Gunners absolutely battered Man City 3-0. You can call it a glorified friendly all you like, but putting three past City without reply is still impressive.

At 5/4, Arsenal are comfortably clear at the top of the betting market. And unless the Gunners suffer some sort of plague-like injury crisis, spectacular collapse or Arteta decides to quit football and take up salsa dancing, I’m struggling to see anyone stopping them from going back-to-back.

Bet 2: Chelsea to Win the Premier League

I can’t possibly end this article by predicting an Arsenal Premier League win. The world is in a bad enough state as it is.

Looking at the short list of potential title-winning candidates, I really think it may be worth sticking a cheeky fiver on Chelsea.

Now I know what you’re gonna say. The Blues have literally finished 10th last season. How could they possibly challenge for the title?

Hear me out!

Interestingly, the last time Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League, they went on to win the title the following season. That happened between 2015 and 2017 — so it’s not exactly ancient history.

This time around, Xabi Alonso is the man in the dugout, and after another seriously busy summer in the transfer market, the Spaniard has got some ridiculous options at his disposal.

Just look at that front three. Joao Pedro, a rested Cole Palmer and newly signed Morgan Rogers – at their best, they could cause absolute carnage.

And Chelsea haven’t exactly been shopping in the bargain bin elsewhere, either. The likes of Maxence Lacroix, Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra have all arrived for serious money, giving Alonso a squad with frightening depth.

It may take some time for Chelsea to gel all these new players together, but the final product could be lethal. At 8/1, I’m willing to stake a fiver.
