Cheltenham Races Predictions
Our beginner’s guide to betting on racing will give you the basics, but Cheltenham predictions are next level. Check out who we think will be romping up the hill to victory in 2026.
Champion Day at Cheltenham Predictions
It’s always a great moment when the tapes go up for the opening race, the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, and we hear that famous “Cheltenham Roar”. The £450,000 Champion Hurdle is the feature race, while the Arkle Trophy showcases the best two-mile novice chasers.
One of our top Cheltenham races predictions is Lulamba, who looks well placed in the Arkle. The five-year-old has won his two chases by an aggregate of 19½ lengths and with the minimum of fuss. Our Cheltenham day 1 tips also include The New Lion (Champion Hurdle), who was unbeaten until his fall in the Fighting Fifth. He has tons of ability and will improve more than most.
Ladies Day at Cheltenham Predictions
Ladies day at Cheltenham Racecourse, now better known as Style Wednesday, has the Queen Mother Champion Chase as its feature race. Top of our Cheltenham day 2 tips is Il Etait Temps, a classy two-mile chaser who is in line to land the big one.
St Patricks Thursday at Cheltenham Predictions
Will Irish eyes be smiling on St Patrick’s Thursday? We certainly think so. Thursday effectively has two feature races, the Ryanair Chase and the Stayers’ Hurdle.
In the former, Fact To File looks to have the class to land this Grade 1. Our Cheltenham day 3 tips are headed however by Impose Toi for the same owner (JP McManus), who is fancied for the Stayers’ Hurdle crown.
Gold Cup Day at Cheltenham Predictions
This is what the jumps season all comes down to. The Cheltenham Gold Cup is not only Friday’s championship race, but it is the feature event of the whole National Hunt campaign. The big race is due off at 4pm, supported by two other Grade 1 events.
Cheltenham Gold Cup tips are headed by Jango Baie, who was staying on nicely in the King George over Christmas. A Pai De Nom is a real improver in the Martin Pipe, while our Cheltenham day 4 tips also include Spindleberry, who’s improving at the right time ahead of the Mares’ Chase.
How We Select Our Cheltenham Festival Tips & Predictions
A lot of data crunching – and some good old racing knowledge – goes into our tips for Cheltenham today and beyond. We want all the info we can get, leaving no stone unturned, and that’s why our Cheltenham tips are worth coming back for. Here’s a snapshot of what we take into consideration.
Naturally, the best horses win more races. A Gold Cup winner taking on a Class 3 runner is like Man City playing Barnsley.
Horses are assigned a rating, and we can compare these. The higher-rated horses go to the best races, but in handicaps, those rated higher carry more weight. We need to judge whether a horse is “well handicapped”.
A horse’s profile tells us everything. We look at their form, past and recent, their age and even their pedigree for clues.
We know the rating and the recent form, but is a horse getting better, or perhaps going backwards? We check that out.
Some are better at the game than others. Trainer/jockey form and ability count for plenty at Cheltenham.
A horse may have the ability, but we may judge that it doesn’t perform to its best over today’s race distance. Form and breeding tells us this.
“Horses for courses” and all that! Some perform better on tighter tracks, others on galloping tracks. We need to know that the layout is suitable.
We’re always on weather watch. Ground conditions are key, as some like the “going” to be softer underfoot, while others like it a tad firmer.
Most Popular Cheltenham Betting Markets
Although spread betting in racing does occur, fixed odds markets are much more popular at Cheltenham. Not sure what the best markets are? As always, we’ve got you covered with a list of the most popular Cheltenham betting odds types.
The go-to for any racing punter. Simply back your horse to win, “on the nose” as it were. Otherwise, take an each-way bet, which means wagering on the win and ‘place’. To be placed, this usually involves finishing in the first two or three, though some ‘extra place’ deals will be promoted.
Like our selections above, ante-post bets are those placed in advance of the meeting. Odds are highest at this point. Our Cheltenham tips today cover these, but remember that if your horse doesn’t run, you won’t get your money back. Look out for a ‘non-runner, no bet promotion’.
Doubles, trebles and even larger accumulators are popular at Cheltenham. These are usually taken when there are a few well fancied, odds-on favourites. Look out though, not all hot favourites win at the festival!
Again, these are popular when a strong market leader is involved. The result may seem sure, but you can bet on the exact finishing order of the first two (Forecast) or first three (Tricast).
If the favourite is just too short a price, you can bet on a book without that horse. The favourite is taken out, and the odds of all the others shrink accordingly. As long as your selection beats all the others, regardless of the named favourite, you win.
Live betting is popular at Cheltenham, as you get to see how the horses are performing over the first couple of furlongs. Odds are up to the second, but very changeable.
The Tote’s Placepot pools can be accessed via most online bookies. Pick one or more horses to finish ‘placed’ in each of the first six races. If you are successful, you get your share of the winning pool.

In modern times, Cheltenham results are affected by fitness. Most Gold Cup winners have 3-6 runs that season. Any fewer leaves them short of their peak, any more leads to fatigue.
Irish-trained horses are doing better and better, there’s no doubt about that. One reason for it may be that they race at the Dublin Racing Festival, just five weeks before Cheltenham. That sharp, race fitness is key, as many British runners are put away having run in December or January, making them too “fresh”.
Cheltenham Racecourse Tips
One of the best Cheltenham racing tips we can offer is to remind you that it’s all about class. The best horses tend to win here. A quirk of horse racing, however, comes in the shape of the course layout, something that can affect results. Cheltenham essentially has two courses, so keep in mind their idiosyncrasies when betting at the festival.
The Old Course
From the stands or through the TV, you might not even notice the difference between the two courses at Cheltenham. The runners finish at the same place. The Old Course is used for all races on day one and day two of the festival.
Both tracks are left-handed, with the Old Course being tighter and sharper and featuring more frequent turns. Its layout means that it slightly favours speed over out-and-out stamina, though with the famous uphill finish to consider, that’s not to say a horse doesn’t need to see out every yard of the trip. Early pace is important on this track.
The New Course
Many Cheltenham tips at the New Course are based on stamina, favouring the more “galloping” type of horse. The New Course is wider, around half a mile bigger in circumference than the Old Course. There are longer straights and more sweeping bends, allowing runners to take their time and get into a rhythm.
The fences are well spaced out, with those capable of staying the stated trip (and beyond) favoured, as they can grind down those in front after the last jump and up towards the line. More leaders fold going up the final hill on this track. This is the course used for the last two days of the festival, including for the Gold Cup.
Recent Cheltenham Results
There are 28, ultra-competitive races at the Cheltenham Festival. As you’d expect, the most talked about Cheltenham odds are those connected to the Gold Cup, the feature race of the meeting. These are the last ten winners of jumps racing’s most coveted prize.

Usually, yes. So long as the promo’s terms don’t restrict you from using your free bets with that market – look out for minimum odds – you’re good to go.
Yep, we’ve checked with a few top bookmakers, including Coral, bet365, and Ladbrokes, and they’ve all confirmed they’ll be livestreaming the entire event. You can expect most reputable bookies that cover horse racing to offer video coverage, so you’ll be able to catch every race without any hassle.
An Ante-Post bet at Cheltenham is when you place a wager well ahead of the festival, sometimes weeks or even months in advance. The odds are often better, but it can be a bit of a gamble without Non-Runner No Bet insurance, as the horse could pull out before race day.
It depends on the odds and how likely you think they are to win. For instance, if you think the favourite is overwhelmingly likely to win and their odds have an implied probability of less than evens, that could be a good Cheltenham betting tip.
Without wishing to toot our own horn, we happen to think the best Cheltenham betting tips today are right here at TPP, on this very page, so be sure to check them out.
