Van Veen to cruise, Dobey to shock, and 180s to stay low? We break down the value for Day Two of the World Matchplay

Looks like the bookies have been more focused on sorting their beer and crisps for round two of the World Matchplay than crunching the numbers, because they’ve left some easy shots on the board. We’ve picked out three punts that give you the best chance of landing a tidy treble.

Day Two Darts World Matchplay Odds

MarketOdds from bet365Return on £10
Gian van Veen to beat Danny Noppert4/7£15.71
Stephen Bunting vs Gary Anderson – Under 11.5 180s2/1£30.00
Chris Dobey To Beat Gerwyn Price 7/4£27.50

You can back one, two, or all three depending on your own predictions and betting strategy. Put £10 on each and you could see returns of around £73.21. Feeling brave? Back them all as an accumulator and a tenner could bag you a wallet-busting £129.64. Either way, we reckon each pick offers cracking value – here’s why.

Day Two Darts World Matchplay Tips

Bet 1: 4/7 on Gian van Veen to Squash Noppert in Round Two

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that we’re confident Gian van Veen is winning this one, our Darts World Matchplay guide has him going all the way to the finals. And it’s not just because he knocked out world number one Luke Humphries in the first round, although that certainly doesn’t hurt.

Gian van Veen looks ready to steamroll this tournament. Since turning pro in 2023, his confidence has soared. He has already bagged a PDC title at Players Championship 6, reached the European Tour final, and made the semis at the European Championship.

Danny Noppert, meanwhile, is struggling to stay sharp in top-tier events. Early exits in both the Players Championship and European Tour, along with losses to the likes of Wattimena and Killington, do not inspire much confidence. No disrespect to them, but they are not players a world number 16 should be losing to on a regular basis.

Put simply, The Giant is primed to crush those 4/7 odds, which carry an implied probability of 63.6%. We would put it closer to 80%, making this a tidy low-risk bet that could, with a bit of luck, leave your wallet looking healthier.

Bet 2: Under 11.5 180s in Bunting v Anderson? Do the Maths, It’s a Belter at 2/1

What a fantastic match to have in round two. But, unfortunately for us punters, one where it’s tricky to find value. They’re both top five players and have been in seesaw form at the moment, so we’re struggling to find any daylight between them. In other words, we think the bookies are bang on by giving each top slinger the same odds.

So, where’s the value? Well, it looks like the bookies have got a bit giddy and forgotten to do their sums properly in the Under 11.5 180s market. Silly them, but lucky for us.

Here’s the deal: Gary Anderson has heard the iconic cry of “one-hundred-and-eiiiiiighty!” 434 times this year across 73 games. Stephen Bunting’s banged in a whopping 637 across 108 games. That works out at just under 6 apiece per match.

So, going by the numbers, Under 11.5 should be sitting at evens or just above. But right now? It's 2/1, that’s an implied probability of just 33.3%, when it should be closer to 55%. They’re off by over 20% in our opinion, which makes this a very tempting value bet.

Just be sure you’re punting with one of the best UK betting sites, like bet365. Some lesser alternatives don’t offer this market, so shop around before you chuck your stake in.

Bet 3: Dobey to Ice the Iceman at a Chilling 7/4

First things first, we completely understand why Gerwyn Price is the favourite here. When he is on form, The Iceman is a stone-cold killer. Just look at his recent finals wins over Luke Humphries and Gary Anderson on the European Tour, plus his standout performances in the World Cup of Darts for proof. When it clicks, he can be unstoppable.

But here’s the thing. Despite the nickname, Price is anything but icy when the pressure mounts. He is an emotional player, and that can go either way. His heated exchange after scraping past Daryl Gurney in the first round is proof of that.

On the other side of the oche, we have Chris Dobey. World number six and no stranger to the big stage. He has been in top form this year, picking up two Players Championship titles to add to his already ample trophy case.

Perhaps most importantly, he has already beaten Price this year. That dramatic comeback win at the PDC World Championship proves he has got the bottle and the experience to hold his nerve when it matters.

So, while the bookies are siding with Price, we reckon Dobey is more than capable of pulling this off. At 7/4, those odds are simply too good to miss.
