Jordan Henderson is set to leave Ajax this summer. The former Liverpool captain has the 2026 World Cup in mind after a recall to the England squad this year. Henderson’s performances for Ajax were enough to convince England boss Thomas Tuchel that he was worth a recall. And the midfielder will be looking to secure a club where he can further impress Tuchel.

Jordan Henderson Transfer Odds: Sunderland Return on the Cards?
So where will Henderson end up? News of his availability has alerted several clubs in the Premier League and around Europe with a lot of talk focusing on an emotional return to newly promoted Sunderland. We will post the odds here when they are released.
We have looked at some of the potential destinations for the 84-cap man.
Sunderland: Local Boy to Make Return to Boost Black Cats’ Survival Hopes?
Boyhood Sunderland fan Henderson started his career with his hometown club having come through the academy at the Stadium of Light. He left for Liverpool in 2011 after making 71 appearances, moving to Anfield for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £16 million and £20 million.
Henderson has never hidden his lasting affection for Sunderland and was at Wembley for their play-off final win over Sheffield United. The last two seasons have seen the three promoted teams make an immediate return to the Championship. And Henderson’s experience would be a massive boost to a youthful Sunderland squad.
We think that this is pretty likely to happen as it is a move which could suit all parties. Sunderland is currently priced at 1/3 to be relegated at bet365. These odds would lengthen with the acquisition of Henderson.

Nottingham Forest: Henderson to Bolster Tricky Trees’ Conference League Campaign?
Nottingham Forest had a fantastic season in 2024/25 and qualified for the UEFA Conference League. And for much of the campaign it threatened to be even better with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side very much in the mix for Champions League qualification.
Forest’s late season falter was very much down to a lack of depth. So, with the grueling Thursday/Sunday routine which comes with the Conference League Espirito Santo needs more depth. Henderson’s quality and experience would fit the bill.
While we cannot rule this move out, we think that there are other, more likely destinations for Henderson. We are not sure how the 35-year-old would feel about a Conference League campaign and Forest might want to go in a different direction.
Marseille: French Leave for England Man?
Marseille have signed Angel Gomes and CJ Egan-Riley this summer and may want to add Henderson to their midfield options. Boss Roberto De Zerbi, the ex-Brighton manager, knows all about Henderson’s attributes and, no doubt, would want to add him to Les Phocéens’ ranks.
We don’t view this as particularly likely as Marseille have a lot of quality midfielders and Henderson may feel he will not get enough game time as he looks towards securing a place in the England World Cup squad.
Monaco No Go for Henderson?
Monaco was credited with interest in Henderson during the January transfer window and the midfielder was reportedly keen to make the move. This all appears to have gone quiet though, and we feel that this particular ship may have sailed.
