The Laver Cup is a men’s tennis team event that matches Team Europe and Team World, with its concept designed to bring together the top tennis players of the current era. The 2022 edition is the fifth renewal and will take place at the O2 Arena in London, with captains Bjorn Borg (Team Europe) and John McEnroe (Team World).

Named after the Australian champion and tennis legend Rod Laver, the Cup is the brainchild of Roger Federer, who wanted to create a tennis equivalent of golf's Ryder Cup. Roger Federer has also announced this year's edition will be his final ever tournament as a tennis player after he announced his retirement on the 15th of September 2022.

The Laver Cup is played over three days and brings together teams of six players. There are nine singles and three doubles matches, with each team member playing in one or two singles matches, and at least four players from each team competing in doubles.

The top three eligible players in the world rankings on the Monday following the French Open will qualify for the tournament automatically. Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe have three captains' picks, which they announced at the start of the US Open in August. Obviously, they are also non-playing captains.

A win on day 1 earns 1 point, a win on day 2 earns 2 points, and a win on day 3 earns 3 points. The first team to accumulate 13 points wins the Laver Cup. Matches are played over the best of three sets, with the third set comprising a 10-point tie-breaker.

We now rank the top 5 best tennis betting sites for the Laver Cup:

The 2022 Laver Cup takes place from Friday 23 September to Sunday 25 September. The playing surface is indoor hardcourts for an event sanctioned by the main men’s Tour, ATP. The tournament does attract decent crowds, and the London venue is an excellent location for tennis fans. So, let's take a look at all things betting.

Laver Cup Betting Odds 2022

At the time of writing, there are no Laver Cup 2022 odds available. However, based on the world rankings of the six players in each team, we expect Team Europe to be big favourites. The European side has won the first four Cups and could potentially win the tournament for the fifth time in 2022.

Over the course of the event’s history, Team Europe has won 55 points (65%), while Team World has won 29 points (35%). The average winning margin is 6.5 points in favour of Team Europe, the main reason for this dominance is obvious.

In 2021, each player in the Team Europe roster was in the world's top 10 rankings, whereas no Team World competitor was a top-10 player at the time of selection. The average Official World Ranking for Team Europe was 6, while that figure was almost 35 for Team World.

Laver Cup Betting Tips & Predictions 2022

Traditionally, Team Europe has always selected a stronger team, which is reflected in the outcomes. The match venue has alternated between Europe and the United States, so having the home advantage is not a major factor – in fact, Team World’s two lowest points tallies were won as hosts.

The pattern has been maintained for the 2022 edition. The table below shows the rankings of the selected players, though Roger Federer did not have an official ranking when this Laver Cup betting guide was written.

Team Europe PlayerWorld RankingTeam World PlayerWorld Ranking
Casper Ruud2Taylor Fritz12
Rafael Nadal3Felix Auger-Aliassime13
Stefanos Tsitsipas6Diego Schwartzman17
Novak Djokovic7Alex de Minaur22
Andy Murray43John Isner42
Roger FedererNo rankingJack Sock128

It’s worth reiterating that the event rules mean that 2 players do not have to play doubles. Hence, Team Europe could bench Andy Murray and Roger Federer for the doubles, and Team World could not involve John Isner and Jack Sock in pairs matches.

So, Team Europe’s four highest ranked players total 18 places, while Team World’s equivalent players total 64 places. These figures equate to averages of 4.5 and 16.0, respectively. Therefore, the conclusion is a win for Team Europe by 5 to 7 points in event winner betting.

This means that correct score bettors may consider 13-8, 13-7 and 13-6. Bookmakers could also issue odds for the event's top point scorer and the top points scorer for each team. Purely based on world rankings, Rafael Nadal and Felix-Auger-Aliassime are the likely favourites.

Bookmakers had not introduced any Laver Cup-specific promotions at the time of this preview. Potential offers include enhanced odds, free bets and no deposit bonuses. Given the popularity of the sport and this tournament in particular, you will also be able to make use of the free bets awarded upon sign-up with the best tennis betting sites on bets placed on the Laver Cup.

Let's take a look at some welcome offers we like:

New customers with 888sport can claim £30 in the form of free bets after placing a qualifying bet for £10. The free bets expire after 7 days, and the first bet is subject to odds restrictions of 1/2 (1.50) or bigger. Winnings from free bets exclude the stake.

On registration, new players with bet365 are credited with £50 in bet tokens after placing an initial bet for £10. The qualifying deposit is £5 or £10, and the free bets are a 500% match bet bonus. Please note that the bet365 new account offers significant Terms & Conditions.

The William Hill welcome bonus is £30 in two free bets for £15. The minimum qualifying bet is £10 at odds of 1/2 (1.50) or bigger. The free bets can be used on any sports market, and they expire after 30 days. Any returns from the William Hill free bets do not include the free bet stake.

The Laver Cup is rare in that it has a team format; the match dynamics are different to a regular ATP tournament in which players compete as individuals. So, what factors make the Laver Cup good for tennis betting?

A number of previewed bookmakers offer live tennis streaming. However, the coverage features matches from minor tournaments and not ATP events. While it is unclear at this stage if there will be any live streams of the Laver Cup, bet365, Ladbrokes, Coral, and William Hill have provided live pictures from men’s tennis tournaments in the past.

We expect our featured bookmakers to offer the following betting markets:

Laver Cup Winner

Bookmakers will provide outright winner odds for the Laver Cup. There will be a definite outcome, so this is a two-way market: Team Europe or Team World.

Correct Score

The first team to earn 13 points will win the Laver Cup 2022, so correct score betting will range from 13-0 to 13-12 for each team.

Event Handicaps

Team Europe should be big favourites, so bookmakers will quote a handicap which is a head start for the underdogs. The correct match score will be adjusted for the handicap.

Top Points Scorers

There will be betting on the match's top points scorer and Team Europe and Team World's top points scorers. World rankings are a good guide for these bets.

Match Winner

This one is a straightforward betting market – in tennis we cannot have draw results so you’re either betting on one or the other team to win.

Match Set Totals

With matches played over the best of three sets, this is a two-way market: 2 sets or 3 sets.

Set Games Totals

Bettors will be able to place wagers on the number of games in a specific set. The maximum amount of games will be 13 (if the set ends with a 7-6 score).

Set Correct Score

For this betting market, you are asked to try and determine the correct score within a particular set, which can range from 6-0 to 7-6 for each team.

Team Europe has won each tournament since the inaugural tournament in 2017.
