The current structure of this tournament's finals sees the championships begin with eight players split into two groups of four. These eight players are the top-ranked eight in the women′s game, according to the WTA world rankings list.

  • List Icon

To qualify for the WTA Finals, the players will compete in 57 tournaments, including the four Grand Slam events. Ranking points are awarded across the year according to performance. At the finals, these two groups of four compete in a round-robin stage, where the top two players from each group progress to the semi-finals.

  • List Icon

The top finishing player from each group will play the runner-up from the other group in the semis, from where the victorious player from each semi-final moves on to contest the final.

The WTA Finals championships also put up the most prize money outside of the four majors: Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open and the Australian Open, and rewards the most ranking points.

WTA Finals Betting Tips 2022

  • List Icon

Watch as much as you can

There are games all the way up to the WTA Finals (Abierto Tampico doesn’t end until the day before) which are worth checking out if you can, even on repeat. Any game which features competitors in this competition's finals provides not only valuable intel for predictions, but also helps you understand the odds and the quality of the markets more clearly. We also recommend you watch as many of the matches as you can throughout the earlier stages of the Finals.

  • List Icon

    Read up on recent events

If you can’t watch, then read. Ideally, do both. Look up the vital statistics that can help you make informed, logical decisions. You can find out not just about who won their WTA head to head fixtures, but also how different players performed specifically across several different criteria.

  • List Icon

Consider a broad range of markets

Understanding as much about how player’s performance and approach to games can also allow you to better predict across a broad spectrum of markets. Remember that betting on the WTA Finals doesn’t just mean backing a tennis final winner; you can bet on individual games, sets, handicaps, scores, tie breaks and more. A betting strategy that works is about noticing opportunities, being open to more markets makes that easier.

  • List Icon

Have a live plan of action

If you’re planning on betting live during the finals, then it makes sense to have a plan of action beforehand. Consider, for instance, at what point you would cash out if given the opportunity. Ponder different possible scenarios and how it would be wisest to react. The cool thing about live tennis betting is your predictions can be more fluid, creating further opportunities – but only if you approach things thoughtfully!

  • List Icon

Look for anything to boost your odds

Loads of great bookmakers offer enhanced odds of some kind. They may go by several names, but this is an offer which does one important thing – and that’s give you better deals on betting markets. The WTA Finals are a perfect reason to take advantage of this, so be sure to check out the latest and greatest promotions to avoid missing out.

WTA Finals Betting Predictions 2022

Here, we’re going to lay out five predictions which we think will pretty much lay out how we think the tournament will go broadly. This is just our opinion, but we hope it gives you food for thought in coming up with your own.

  • List Icon

    Iga Świątek to win

Has there ever been a world number one in the WTA live rankings as deserving of such a title as Iga Świątek? With an 89%-win percentage this season, eight titles, and a single loss in the qualifiers, she looks close to unbeatable. Unfortunately, most punters know that this means short odds.

  • List Icon

Another near miss for Ons Jabeur

Ons Jabeur was so close to winning both Wimbledon and the US Open, but came up short both times. While we certainly still have hope for this trailblazer, we think the brick wall of Iga Świątek will be too much of a stopping force, just as she was at the US Open. Nonetheless, we can see Ons Jabeur likely making it to the final.

  • List Icon

Coco Gauff to go out in semi-finals

Gauff continues to astonish in all forms of competition, so she just may have what takes to make it to the semi-finals here. She could potentially push further to the final as she did in the 2022 Australian Open, but we think Ons Jabeur and Świątek will be too tough in this instance.

  • List Icon

Aryna Sabalenka or Maria Sakkari to join the final four

In terms of semi-finals, that only leaves us with one more spot. We’re leaving this prediction a little more open because we think there’s a compelling case for both Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari. If we had too, we would give a slight advantage to Aryna Sabalenka, as she has more experience in reaching those latter stages of major tournaments. She has made it to the semi-finals of Wimbledon and the US Open twice in 2021 and 2022, while Maria Sakkari has seen the semi-finals of the French and US Open, both in 2021.

  • List Icon

Daria Kasatkina, Caroline Garcia and Jessica Pegula to go out in group stages

One thing we highly recommend is to make your predictions make a cohesive whole. For example, from what we've said above, it should be easy to deduce that Daria Kasatkina, Caroline Garcia, and Jessica Pegula must go out in the group stages for our tips to make logical sense.

WTA Finals Betting Promotions 2022

There’s a fantastic selection of promotions already available for use on the 2022 edition of the Finals, with plenty more to come. Here’s three of our favourites to give you a taste of what’s out there.

  • List Icon

Betfair’s “Bet £10 on the sportsbook and get £30 in free bets” offer is exactly what it sounds like. Deposit and bet £10 by debit card and use Betfair promo code ZBGC01 for three times for £30 in free bets. Ideal if you’re interested in multiple WTA Finals betting odds.

  • List Icon

You can enjoy a £20 risk free bet when you open an account with Paddy Power. While this is not a promotion aimed specifically at tennis markets, it is broadly available on all sports markets with minimum odds of 2.0. Basically, if your first bet loses, you get your money back in cash. This allows newcomers to try out a new site and set of markets with severely reduced risk.

  • List Icon

The WTA Finals are one of the best events to utilise various bet boosts and enhanced odds. There’s arguably no better example of this than Ladbrokes Odds Boost. This allows you to boost the prices an any pre-event sports bet. All you need to do is log in after 10am and use your odds boost token to get even more out of your WTA betting odds.

Like all good tennis tourneys, these Finals provide tennis fans and bettors with some amazing betting opportunities. In tennis, there are always plenty of markets to wager on, from individual matches to the entire event as a whole. We've compiled the most popular markets below for your reference.

Outright Tournament Winner Betting

Placing an outright winner’s bet on the overall tournament means that you are betting on a player to win the entire tournament. In the case of the WTA Finals, there are only eight players you can back once the last eight qualifiers have been finalised; however, you could try an early season ante-post bet if you fancy your chances.

Match Winner Betting

Quite simply, a tennis match can only end in defeat for one player and victory for the other. There are no draws in tennis. To bet on the match winner is to pick the player that you think will win the match.

Winning by Sets Betting

If you’re feeling really confident, you could try to predict the number of sets the match winner might win or collect in total. Remember, in the WTA Finals, the players are all much closer matched, so runaway wins are far less common.

Number of Aces Served Betting

How many aces do you think will be served in a match? If there is a player who you believe is a big hitter and will serve a high number of aces, or better yet, two big hitters, then you might want to bet on the number of aces served within a pre-agreed range – one that comes with its own fixed odds.

The championships began in Boca Raton, Florida in October 1972, when they were originally enjoyed as the highlight of a series of tournaments’ finale. After two years of taking place in October, the event was moved to March from 1975 until 1986, at which point the WTA rearranged their entire season to run from January through November. This meant the championships were moved back to October again, where they remain today.

It’s not just the date that has changed over the years, though. The championships have also had numerous homes, having been held in Los Angeles, California from 1974 to 1976 before moving to Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1977. The championships stayed in New York City (with the exception of a one-year move to Oakland, California in 1978), until the year 2001, when they were held in Munich, Germany.

The championships then returned to LA for the following three seasons before being held in Madrid, Spain for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Doha, Qatar hosted the following three seasons, followed by Istanbul, Turkey, who hosted until 2013. After that, Singapore became home for a five-year run, which came to an end in 2019 when the tournament was staged in Shenzhen, China.

Because of the pandemic, the tournament was cancelled in 2020 and was in Mexico in 2021 for one year only, where it was won by Garbiñe Muguruza. The 2021 WTA Finals also included Iga Świątek, Maria Sakkari, and Aryna Sabalenka. None made it past the group stages. This year, the WTA tennis final will return to the United States for the first time since 2014.
