Round 2 of the Irish Greyhound Derby is here! A few of the big boys have already made a splash and a dash, but the second round can be full of upsets. We’re here to give you the rundown of each race on Friday, and a few accas to give your bark some much-needed bite.
Round 2 of the Irish Greyhound Derby features 16 rounds across two days, and some of the best runners will be showing off their best form. The field is a lot tighter than round 1, and now could be a good time to start searching for a potential outright winner.
Irish Greyhound Derby Round 2 Odds – Friday
Here are our predicted winners for all the races on Friday, with odds from bet365:
| Race | Greyhound | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Race 1 | Droopys Patriot | 11/8 |
| Race 2 | Ballymac Danica | 13/8 |
| Race 3 | De Lahdedah | 11/10 |
| Race 4 | Bockos Diamond | 1/2 |
| Race 5 | Cheque For Cash | 5/4 |
| Race 6 | Lookandlep | 9/2 |
| Race 7 | Oreo Ollie | 7/4 |
| Race 8 | Cheap Sandwiches | 6/4 |
Droopys Patriot’s first round was brilliant, and he ran from the second trap. His main competition, Lennies Dream, is running from the inside trap, but had a slower time in round one. We expect Droopys Patriot to progress and win the round.
Ballymac Danica and Seven Beach are both priced at 13/8, but Ballymac Danica is in a slightly better trap and ran a faster race in round 1. If you’re up for it, a forecast bet could offer amazing value.
De Lahdedah is the favourite and is predicted to go far in the competition. Round 2 should just be a formality for him, with only Magical Mag providing any real competition.
Bockos Diamond is the favourite to win the whole competition, so it’s no surprise that his odds are so low in round 2. A bet on any other dog wouldn’t be worth trying.
It’s one of the closest heats of the day, but Cheque For Cash is the favourite for a reason. He ran the fastest time in round 1, and he’s starting out in the favourable third trap. Da Bold Falcon is also good value for money, though.
Lookandlep may not be the favourite of this round, but his position in the 3rd trap could be enough to see him win this race over the current favourite Hello Diego, who’s occupying the outside trap.
It’s another close race, with Oreo Ollie, Solo And Go, and Ballymac Axel all having similar odds. My money’s on Oreo Ollie, who had the fastest time in round 1. If he can get out of the inside trap quickly, this could go his way.
Cheap Sandwiches is the second outright favourite, so we expect him to dispatch the competition in the early stages of the Irish Greyhound Derby. Only Epic Ace and Carrick Scholsey pose any real threat.
Irish Greyhound Derby Acca Tips for Round 2
Greyhound Betting on a single dog at a time is not enough for you? Well, we’ve got a few acca betting suggestions to spice up your Friday evening. Let’s take a look at each, with odds from bet365.
Play it Safe With the Favourites – 8/1
It’s a threefold Acca on the three outright favourites for the entire Irish Greyhound Derby. Those are Droopys Patriot in race 1 (11/8), Bockos Diamond in race 5 (1/2), and Cheap Sandwiches in race 8 (6/4).
The odds are on the lower side, but these three greyhounds really should be topping their races as they’re expected to push for the final.
Lowest Odds 4-Fold – 16/1
Another interesting strategy to try is betting on the four races with the shortest-priced dogs. Of course, the bigger an acca gets, the harder it is to predict, but these four could offer good value without being too much of a long shot.
These four are Droopys Patriot in Race 1(11/8), De Lahdedah in Race 3 (11/10), Bockos Diamond in Race 4 (1/2), and Cheque For Cash in Race 5 (5/4). All four will be expected to win their heats.
Close Seconds To Land You First Prize – 18/1
If you’re weary of betting on the favourites, there are a number of races which have runners who are priced at second best, which could offer lots of value. These are: Seven Beach in Race 2 (13/8), Magical Meg in Race 3 (13/8), and Oreo Ollie in Race 7 (7/4).
Each runner has what it takes to do well in this round, and although their competition won’t be easy, we wouldn’t be surprised to see these three progress and win.
Mad Man’s 8 Fold Friday Acca – 1700/1
If you’ve completely gone off your rocker, you could go for an eight-fold acca on all our suggestions. It’s crazy, but it’ll give you a massive reward. We don’t suggest doing this unless you plan on chucking on a few pennies for a laugh.
50p could win £850.50, or you could just buy a Freddo and enjoy a tasty treat while watching the Irish Greyhound Derby.
