After a string of less than convincing results so far in the T20 World Cup, England have somehow battled their way to Thursday’s semi-final in Mumbai on 05 March, 2026. Awaiting them are tournament hosts and favourites in the betting, India, who have looked relatively assured across their games thus far.
England head into the game as underdogs, priced at around 9/5 to cause a monumental upset, while the hosts are, understandably, short at 4/9 as they look to become the first nation to win back-to-back T20 World Cups.
Both teams have lost just once en route to the semi-finals, but it’s the manner of England’s close-run games that has alarm bells ringing ahead of their biggest test to date.

Bet 1: Match Result – India to Win
It’s hard to get that excited about markets that are odds-on, but there might actually be a bit of value in India to win at odds of 4/9.
England have a torrid T20 record against India, losing eight of the last 10 head-to-heads, and by some alarming margins. In fact, the most recent game, 13 months ago, held at the same ground they play at on Thursday, was a complete walkover, with India winning by a whopping 150 runs.
There’s not been an awful lot to suggest that much will change this time around, either. England have been poor as a collective unit with the bat, relying on individual performances, usually from the middle-lower order, to get them out of the proverbial, with too many of the top order struggling to find form.
While India haven’t been perfect, losing to South Africa in the Super 8s, they’ve shown much more consistency and even at odds of 4/9 with some of the best cricket betting sites, they are the value pick here.

Bet 2: India to Have the Highest Opening Partnership
England are struggling at the top of the order. Jos Butler and Phil Salt have yet to find any rhythm, averaging just 12 runs for the opening partnership so far in the T20 World Cup. When you consider that they’ve played Nepal, Scotland and Italy in those games, it’s a pitiful return and one of the main reasons why they’ve flattered to deceive as a team.
Now India, admittedly, haven’t been a whole lot better with 111 runs at 15.86, but their shift to move wicketkeeper-batsmen Sanju Samson to the top of the order has paid dividends, with a brilliant 97* against the West Indies at Eden Gardens.
We’re getting 4/5 for India to have a better opening partnership, and based on the numbers, there’s value in this price.
Bet 3: Top Indian Bowler – Varun Chakravarthy
Varun Chakravarthy has been the pick of the Indian bowlers so far in the competition. His legbreaks have caused no end of issues throughout, picking up 12 wickets at an average of 15.33, with a best of 7-3 against Namibia.
Notably, Chakravarthy has taken one or more wickets in every game, which is key for getting players in the mix for the top bowler awards. His mystery spin has taken him from the 150th-ranked T20I bowler to the number one in the world, and he’s proving his worth so far.
His biggest impact has come in the middle overs, where his array of variations has suffocated teams. Since 2024, he’s taken 81 wickets from overs seven to 16 at an average of 15.48. An ominous sign for England, who have historically been poor against these types of bowlers.
Only Shadley van Schalkwyk (USA) and Blessing Muzarabani (ZIM) have taken more wickets than Chakravarthy so far, and we’re backing him at 5/2 to continue his fine form.
