The T20 World Cup cricket tournament will take place between 4th- 30th June in 2024 and will be co-hosted by both the West Indies and the United States. England are the defending champions and favourites to win again here, but you only have to look at the current men’s Cricket World Cup standings to know that anything is possible.
For the first time ever, the T20 cricket world cup is made up of 20 different teams, including:
-
the top eight teams from the previous tournament
-
two based on the current ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings
-
two from the Europe qualifier
-
one from the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier
-
one from the Americas Qualifier
-

Cricket T20 World Cup Betting Tips and Predictions
While we can’t ensure any certainties when it comes to betting overall, we can provide guidance to help you make the most informed bets possible. We do this using a two-pronged approach.
First off, I’ll be giving you some of my very own personal predictions to help you start thinking more strategically about how the World Cup will go.
Prediction 1 – India and England for finals
England, the defending champions, are one of only two teams to have won the T20 World Cup twice (alongside the West Indies) and boast none other than Sam Curran, the player of the season, in their ranks.
India is a national team so consistent that it still seems incredible that their only T20 World Cup gold came in the inaugural tournament in 2007.
If the knockout stage semi-finals landed differently last year, they’d likely have been our 2022 final, so we think we’ll see them produce a specular last showdown this time around.
Prediction 2 – India to win
When it comes to this tournament, it seems like India are just missing out on those most important victories. And that omen, especially when you consider that it was England that knocked them out of the tournament last in a semi-final thriller, could set them up for yet another heartbreaking fall. But I don’t think so.
India has tons of young talent in their team ready to breath new power, speed, and energy into the squad, while legends like Rohit Sharma and the still awe-inspiring Virat Kohli can provide guidance alongside their own awesome firepower.
Enough to take out an overachieving English team? I think so.
Prediction 3 – USA to surprise bookmakers
Considering that the USA has never qualified for the T20 World Cup, it comes as little surprise that bookies rank their chances as similar to that of a snowman making it through a session on the sunbeds.
But I think the USA might surprise the oddsmakers, as it’s unlikely they will win.
However, they are steadily making improvements, and will no doubt be looking to make the most of this huge opportunity. They may win more matches and go further than any cricket World Cup betting odds would suggest.
Prediction 4 – Virat Kohli to make the most runs
There has been speculation on whether Virat Kohli will be making it to this squad come the summer of 2024. But I think barring circumstances beyond anyone’s control, he’ll be there.
This is a legendary player who knows that the road behind is far longer than the one ahead and will see this as a fantastic opportunity to push for glory wherever he can. And considering the shorter format of T20, it’s ideally suited.
Plus, we’ve seen enough of Virat Kohli to have faith in his spectacular abilities.
Cricket T20 World Cup Betting Tips
These T20 betting tips provide general advice to help you to determine your own predictions and how to make the most out of them.
TIP:
Pay close attention to the group draw
How the groups come together will have a huge impact on the cricket World Cup odds, especially at those early stages.
For instance, if you were backing the USA to make it to a later stage of the tournament, an expectedly tough group could change everything.
Similarly, you might have a group which guarantees a top team will fail to qualify to the Super 8.
Consider all your predictions, at least in the opening stages, through the lens of the individual group dynamics and the strengths of each team.
TIP:
Shop around for odds and promotions
As we get closer to the cricket World Cup T20 spectacular, we’ll see increasingly competitive cricket betting odds and promotions as operators entice you to choose them.
A cricket welcome offer, as an example, could provide huge benefits when betting on the cricket World Cup.
And, as you can see if you check the odds table for the potential winners, there’s a wide variety of sportsbooks offering the best returns for different markets.
In other words, looking around for the best deal can quite literally provide you with a bigger bottom line if you’re a winner.
TIP:
Take advantage of live betting
Strategic and energetically paced, there’s arguably no sport better suited to live betting than cricket.
If you’re quick and knowledgeable, in-play odds open a whole new universe of betting possibilities. This is especially so if you choose an excellent cricket betting site which can offer the full live experience, including great statistics and live cricket steaming World Cup coverage.
TIP:
Take advantage of handicap markets for mismatched games
The increase in teams in the tournament does provide greater opportunities.
However, it can also mean for some likely mismatched games – handily, this is where the versatility of the T20 betting markets comes in. You can use handicap markets to level the playing field to create interesting encounters no matter who’s playing.
Tournament Structure for the Twenty20 World Cup
The expansion of the field of teams from 16 to 20 for the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup has had an impact on the structure of the tournament. Nonetheless, it remains divided by three distinct stages:
The Group stage is now the starting point for every team in the competition. This stage will include four groups of five teams playing in a single round-robin structure. Each team will receive two points for a win and one point for no result. The top two teams by points at the end of this stage will advance to the Super 8.
The Super 8's stage consists of two groups of four, but otherwise works just the same as the initial group stage. It is a single round-robin with the top two from each group advancing to the knockout stage.
The Knockout stage starts right at the semi-final, with the winner of Group E taking on the runner-up of Group F and the winner of Group F taking on the runner-up of Group E. This will lead us to the T20 World Cup final on 30th June 2024.
Cricket Twenty20 World Cup 2024 Schedule
The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup will take place between the 4th and 30th June in 2024.
The specific dates for individual matches have not been announced, so all we know in terms of scheduling is that the Group Stage and Super 8 Stage will be played throughout June.
Date | Teams | Bracket |
---|---|---|
26th June 2024 | Winner of Group E vs Runner-up of Group F | Semi-Final 1 |
27th June 2024 | Runner-up of Group E vs Winner of Group F | Semi-Final 2 |
30th June 2024 | Winner of Semi-Final 1 vs Winner of Semi-Final 2 | Final |
