The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup is organised by the governing body, the International Cricket Council. Here is all you need to know about the latest Twenty20 World Cup news, the tournament schedule, our betting tips, the most successful teams, and much more!

The T20 World Cup can be played at any time of the year and is typically hosted by cricket-playing nations in either hemisphere. Consisting of 16 competing teams, the event is divided into three different stages.

The top eight teams in T20 World Cricket automatically qualify for the Super 12s stage, while the 9th to 16th ranked teams must compete in an initial First Round stage.

  1. The Group stage consists of two groups – Group A and Group B, each consisting of four competing teams. Each will face the other in a group once, with the top two in each group qualifying for the Super 12s stage of the tournament.

  2. The Super 12s stage consists of two groups – Group 1 and Group 2, each consisting of six competing teams. Each must face the other in a group once, after which the top two will qualify for the Knockout stage of the tournament.

  3. The Knockout stage is made up of two Semi-finals (1A vs. 2B and 2A vs. 1B), and the winners of each will compete in the tournament’s final.

Cricket T20 World Cup Betting Tips and Predictions 2022

  • The 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, also referred to as the World T20, is back following a brief absence, with Australia are finally getting the chance to host the competition. This is after the Covid-19 pandemic prevented the 2020 edition from going ahead. Although the Aussies head into the upcoming tournament as favourites after lifting the trophy last year, and while they will likely be a major player at the tournament, we don’t think there’s much value at all in backing them to win. No team has ever won the World T20 back-to-back, while the West Indies are the only team to win the competition twice.
  • England and Pakistan recently played out a thrilling seven-match T20 series in Pakistan, with both sides fancying their chances of going all the way in Australia. England have been one of the most dominant white-ball sides of the past five years, but they haven’t won this competition since 2010. However, they're blessed with an incredibly deep batting line-up and a well-balanced bowling attack that’s been bolstered by Reece Topley’s excellent 2022 and the in-form Mark Wood. Their talent across the board is remarkable, but there might be one or two concerns regarding the likes of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, who’ll enter the tournament having not played much white-ball cricket in recent times. The retirement of long-time captain Eoin Morgan could also hurt them in crunch time. Morgan’s level-headedness was key to England’s success under his tutelage.
  • As for Pakistan, they boast the most prolific opening pair in the world in Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, but their reliance on the outstanding duo is a concern. Their middle order – outside of Shan Masood – failed to fire in the series with England and their fielding was, at times, abysmal. The return of Shaheen Shah Afridi is a huge boost for the tournament, but their sub-par batting depth means it’ll be tough for them to win the tournament.
  • India are always among the pre-tournament favourites, and it’s no different this time around. While the absence of Jasprit Bumrah could be costly in the latter stages, Virat Kohli’s timely return to form will galvanise the side in Australia. The all-time great recently helped India to a T20 series victory over the Aussies with a score of 63 in the decider. Like England, India are blessed with remarkable batting depth as some of their key players are heading into the competition in fine touch. KL Rahul continues to score relentlessly, Hardik Pandya is back to his very best with the bat, while Suryakumar Yadav may well be the most stylish batsman in the world right now. He could be India’s X-factor down under, so we fancy their chances of winning the tournament in Bumrah’s absence.
  • New Zealand are typically underrated by the bookies in white-ball cricket, but they’re the fourth favourites heading into the 2022 T20 World Cup. The Kiwis were beaten finalists in 2021 and will have a similar side available for the upcoming tournament. They haven’t played much T20 cricket in recent months, but they did enjoy a series victory over the West Indies in August, and they’re set to play several warm-up games ahead of the tournament. New Zealand’s top order is superb, so there’s no reason why they can’t enjoy another deep run if the likes of Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill, and Devon Conway all fire. Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, and Jimmy Neesham add some firepower in the middle order, too.
  • Trent Boult’s ability to take wickets in the powerplay will be key for New Zealand, and they’ll need Ish Sodhi to bowl with control in tandem with Mitch Santner in the middle overs.
  • Both Sri Lanka and West Indies have shown some signs of improvement over the past year, but the two sides will have to qualify for the Super 12 via the group stage. The two behemoths of the sport will be expected to progress, but it’s hard to envisage either of them having a huge say in the latter stages of the competition. While the two sides each boast some talented pieces, they’re a long way off the Englands, Australias, and Indias of the world.
  • If you are looking for a potential dark horse, then look no further than South Africa, who beat England in a three-match series in the summer and recently played India close in a series defeat. Their bowling isn’t superb, but they do possess the second-ranked T20 bowler in the world heading into the tournament in Tabraiz Shamsi. Kagiso Rabada is also capable of producing a magical spell on his day. It’s their batting, though, that should fill punters with confidence. Quinton de Kock is a prolific opener, while David Miller and Rilee Rossouw are two of the world’s most in-form T20 batsmen.
  • The Proteas can be backed at 10/1, making them a bet worth taking on.

With the 2022 T20 World Cup upcoming, here is all you need to know about the most important cricket betting markets and popular bet variants.

Outright Winner

An Outright Winner bet simply requires you to predict the winner of a tournament to be contested. If you're interested in betting on this market, bear in mind that the favourites to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 are Australia.

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Outright Winner: NetBet

To Win the Match

A To Win the Match bet requires you to successfully predict the winner of a match.

Before backing a team, look into form as well as fixture history, and aggregate the number of runs and wickets each team has taken against the other in T20 World Cup clashes.

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Match Winner: Novibet

Team Innings Runs

A Team Innings Runs bet requires you to predict how many runs a team will score in due course of an innings. This bet could be in the form of Over/Under, or a given range. The odds associated with this market are usually on the higher side, given its difficulty.

You should look at the number of runs a team usually scores, the opposition at large, the bowling prowess of the opposition, and the capability of the lower-order batsmen of a team in question.

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Team Innings Runs: QuinnBet

Most Sixes

This market requires you to predict the team competing in a match which will score the most sixes. You should examine the number of players in a team who rely on hitting sixes, the number of sixes they have hit in T20 cricket, and their batting averages.

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Most Sixes: Fansbet

Top Batsman

Here, you'll need to predict the top-scoring batsman in due course of a match. You should look to punt on the most consistent batsman in a team, or the player (coming into the match in question) who is in the best form.

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Top Batsman: BoyleSports

Top Bowler

For this market, you'll need to predict the top wicket-taking bowler of the match. You should look to bet on the most consistent bowler in a team and who is playing at their peak performance.

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Top Bowler: Sportingbet

Best Economy Rate on T20

For this bet, you'll be required to predict a bowler who will have the best economy rate during the match. A bowler’s economy rate is the average number of runs that have been scored for each over bowled. The better the bowler performs, the fewer runs the batsmen should get, and the lower the economy rate will be.

This is an interesting betting market. Spinners that are prolific in the middle overs will typically boast the best economy rates if they bowl with control. Take a look at the economy rates of all the bowlers in a team, then choose a bowler with a proven track record, a good variety of deliveries, and a deadly yorker (for fast bowlers)/second-stock delivery (for spinners).

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Best Economy Rate: 888sport

Fifty To Be Scored in the Match

Here, you'll need to predict whether a fifty will be scored in due course of a match. In matches with a big team playing, a fifty is more likely to be scored than not.

Best Cricket Twenty20 World Cup betting site for Fifty Scored: bwin

T20 Cricket was initially introduced on a professional level by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003. It slowly garnered pace and built a lively reputation, entertaining crowds with a swashbuckling brand of batting and innovative bowling strategies on display.

It was not long before the International Cricket Council Board (ICC) announced the formation of a new World Cup format – the ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cup – and in 2007, the first edition took place in South Africa.

The 2007 ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cup was a huge success, with India beating Pakistan in a nail-biting final. India’s victory catapulted T20 Cricket to new heights, as the BCCI introduced the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.

The success of the IPL saw several T20 tournaments of acclaim being launched, including the Big Bash, the Caribbean Premier League, and the Pakistan Super League, among other tournaments.

The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup has seen huge success over the years, with several memorable matches being contested, superstars being unravelled, and legends being born.

The most successful team in the history of the ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cup are the West Indies, with two titles to their name. Their second victory, which came in 2016, produced one of the most memorable finishes in the sport’s history as the relatively unknown all-rounder Carlos Braithwaite hit four consecutive sixes off Ben Stokes’ bowling in the final over to break English hearts and send the trophy to the Caribbean.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 World Cup, which had been set to take place in Australia in October 2020, was pushed back to 2021 and instead held in the UAE and Oman. This year’s hosts, Australia, won the tournament after beating neighbours New Zealand in the final.
