Cheltenham Day Three Tips – Kabral Gains in the Stayers’ Hurdle

Essentially, we have two feature events on Thursday. As for the Ryanair Chase, it’s hard to see Fact To File being beaten, but he’s just too short a price. We are having a bet in the Stayers’ Hurdle however, with Dan Skelton’s runner among five Cheltenham Thursday tips.

Some of our very best bookmakers have provided the Cheltenham odds for Thursday, our selections being priced best by 10bet, Betfred, BetVictor and Coral.

OLDSCHOOL OUTLAW, 1:20 (Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle) – 9/2 with Betfred

Willie Mullins’ Bambino Fever has been all the rage for this race since winning on her second hurdle start at Fairyhouse in January. She was impressive, but her price is surely skewed.

She was as short as 1/4 for her debut at Naas in December, but was beaten into second by Gordon Elliott’s Oldschool Outlaw. There were no excuses in truth, as Bambino Fever travelled strongly and was just beaten fair and square.

Following that race, Oldschool Outlaw came out and won easily on her own second start, running to a mark of around 140 on our books, compared with Bambino Fever’s 132 last time out. They are both rated the same officially at 138, but we think that’s false. In any case, their prices are wildly different, and Oldschool Outlaw is just too big a price.

Look out for any money coming for our horse closer to race time. Owner JP McManus often backs them on course when fancied, something we’ve seen before on our Saturday horse racing tips page.

SIXMILEBRIDGE, 2:00 (Golden Miller Handicap Chase) – 9/1 with BetVictor

This is an extended two-and-a-half-mile novices’ handicap, and as always, it’s an extremely competitive one. Stencil, Regent’s Stroll, Ol Man Dingle and Jordan’s Cross were all seriously considered, but we might find there is a local winner in this one.

Cheltenham trainer Fergal O’Brien would love to win a Grade One race at the Festival, and his Sixmilebridge in fact has won three from three over fences, including the Grade One Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase. The fact that they send him into this race instead of a top-level conditions race shows that they believe he is very well handicapped, and we agree.

He has the right mix of speed and stamina for this event, and will appreciate having a proper field to race along with. Sixmilebridge looks every inch a horse ready to run into the 160’s, so his mark of 150 is generous enough in handicap company.

JADE DE GRUGY, 2:40 (Mares’ Hurdle) – 7/2 with Coral

It’s Gordon Elliott versus Willie Mullins again. By all accounts, the bookies believe that Lossiemouth’s defection to the Champion Hurdle has opened this race right up for Elliott’s Wodhooh, who is now odds-on. Our numbers tell us that only two can realistically win this if it is run on a level playing field, which immediately makes the odds about Jade De Grugy worth taking.

Wodhooh has done nothing wrong, but Mullins may have made a clever move here by bringing Jade De Grugy back to hurdling having been chasing of late. Her last hurdles win was an easy one, and her latest chase success was achieved in a canter. We haven’t got to the bottom of her yet, but this race will bring the best out of her for sure.

No doubt she has been prepared superbly by the best training team at this meeting, and Jade De Grugy is terrific value to beat her main rival under Paul Townend.

KABRAL DU MATHAN, 3:20 (Stayers’ Hurdle) – 9/2 with 10bet

The Stayers’ Hurdle can be an open race, but our Cheltenham Festival NAP of the day runs in the 2026 version. Last year’s winner Teahupoo is solid enough, but new challengers Impose Toi, Honesty Policy and Ma Shantou will be putting the pressure on, along with Ballyburn who remains of interest.

Though he needs to prove he can stay the trip, the one with easily the most untapped potential is Dan Skelton’s Kabral Du Mathan. Never out of the first two in eight hurdle starts, the six-year-old is two from two since switching from Paul Nicholls’ yard.

He’s reached a mark of 154 with the minimum of fuss over two and a half miles this season, but that would grossly underestimate his true ability. His Relkeel Hurdle win on Trials Day marked him out as impressive, and he gets a chance now to show he can do it on the biggest stage.

SUPREMELY WEST, 4:40 (Pertemps Network Final) – 4/1 with 10bet

The Pertemps Final is run over three miles, but the pace will still be pretty hot. With 24 of them belting round the New Course, this race isn’t for the faint-hearted. It’s up to the jockeys to keep their cool, and all we want is a clean round of jumping from Harry Skelton aboard Supremely West.

This is likely another organised handicap plot by the jockey’s brother, Dan Skelton. He did it so successfully with Langer Dan in the 2023 and 2024 Coral Cup, allowing his horse to run over the winter when not entirely enjoying things, only to get to the Festival well handicapped and ready to roll. Supremely West could be anything up to 10lbs well in now and well relish the conditions.

Kikijo is fancied to do well here, but for context, our horse was favourite and fully expected to beat him over the winter when giving him 18lbs in weight. On Thursday, they meet on level terms.
