The World Cup is over 80 games old by the time this match kicks off at 9pm in Seattle. But it’s a new month, and we’re into the knockout stages now, so everything changes.

A lot of the available prices shove us into player props, but I’m ignoring those, and going for three other big bets to form a cracking 7.45/1 bet builder with Betfred. My Belgium v Senegal tips are live now.

Belgium v Senegal: Latest Odds

Our best World Cup betting sites have all the latest odds live now.

Back Belgium to Win (90 minutes)

At approximately £473m versus £413m, the Belgian squad is worth a little more than Senegal’s right now. As for FIFA rankings, this is 9th v 15th. While that doesn’t mean a whole lot, it just about backs up the apparent transfer values and makes Belgium favourites.

Technically, no league in the world is tougher than the Premier League in England. Senegal have seven players from that competition in their squad, though not from the top clubs. Belgium also have seven, but theirs include representatives from Man City, Arsenal, and Aston Villa. They have more game-changers.

Belgium got through their group with only five points and six goals. They did have a +4 goal difference though, and at a glance, that reads OK to me. One doubt I had was seeing that, on closer inspection, they drew with both Iran and Egypt before walloping New Zealand which didn’t get my juices flowing.

Senegal scraped through their group with a win and two defeats. They managed a positive goal difference, but only because of a 5-0 win against whipping boys Iraq, who finished with a miserable total of -11. I’m backing Belgium to win this, partly because of some of the reasons listed in my next bet.

Back Over 1.5 ‘Home’ Goals

Belgium are the nominated “home” side here for betting purposes, just so you know. The point about backing Belgium to win is that their World Cup form is ramping up.

Their 5-1 win came at the end of the group, something indicative of a team reaching a higher level just when they need to. I’ll expect no mistakes or complacency from Belgium now that we’ve reached the knockouts, and we’re not yet at the point that fatigue should kick in.

On the road since October, Belgium have scored four in Wales, five against the USA, and two more against Croatia. In their last 10 games in all competitions at all venues, Belgium’s aggregate is 31-8.

Senegal lost 3-0 to Morocco at AFCON, 3-2 to the USA before the World Cup, 3-1 to France here and 3-2 to Norway. That defence is leaky. Getting World Cup odds of 11/8 for Belgium to score more than one goal here looks great value to me, and I’m jumping all over it.

Back Over 5.5 ‘Home’ Corners

In the World Cup so far, Belgium’s for and against corner count looks like this:

  • List Icon

    2-7 (v Egypt)

  • List Icon

    4-2 (v Iran – with 10 men)

  • List Icon

    8-5 (v New Zealand)

That’s 14-14 in total, but there’s a pattern that suggests they’re getting better in this regard as the tournament goes on. Senegal’s corners are:

  • List Icon

    4-6 (v France)

  • List Icon

    4-5 (v Norway)

  • List Icon

    12-3 (Iraq)

Senegal have conceded the same 4.66 corners per game that Belgium have won, but the opposition has to be taken into account. Over 4.5 for Belgium at 4/5 is a steal, but over 5.5 at 6/4 is a proper bet to add to a multiple, and that’s the last of my Belgium v Senegal betting tips.
