Breeders’ Cup Betting Tips Today
We have been keeping a close eye on flat racing around the world, especially the British and Irish events, and the North American season, so we can bring you several quality tips for this two-day festival. Either you wish to have a punt with our Breeders’ Cup betting tips or want to go your own way, use our data-driven thoughts as a reference point.
Day one is known as Future Stars Friday. It provides a snapshot of next year onwards, with races for two-year-olds, while Championship Saturday sees three-year-olds and older horses take centre stage.
Breeders’ Cup Day 1 Tips – Friday October 31
Friday showcases some of the best two-year-olds in the world. There are five juvenile races, a sprint over 5 furlongs, a blast over 1 mile, and a longer race over 1 and 1/16 miles, with an open race and a race for fillies in the 1 mile and the 1- and 1/16-mile races. Here are some of our fancied horses from these top-quality juvenile races.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint
Back True Love to Win
This two-year-old filly, trained by Aidan O’Brien, had a great start to her career with three wins and two second places in 2025. O’Brien will have her in form for this one and we are backing her to win.
Breeders’ Cup Day 2 Tips – Saturday November 1
Saturday at the Breeders’ Cup is not called Champions Saturday for nothing. There are nine races of the highest calibre over a range of distances. From sprint races over 5 furlongs to the 1 and ¼ mile contests, this meeting showcases speed and endurance. Check out our experts’ thoughts on the festival’s second day, including our Breeders’ Cup Classic tips.
Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint
Kopion to Win: Richard Mandella trained filly to come out on top
Four-year-old filly Kopion took second spot at Del Mar at the start of August, and we think she will go one better at the Breeders’ Cup. The 7-furlong race distance will suit her down to the ground.
Breeders’ Cup Turf
Mini Hauk to Win
After taking second place in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, Aidan O’Brien will be aiming to make sure Minnie Hauk goes one better here. And we think that she is the one to beat here. Back her to win!
Breeders’ Cup Mile
Notable Speech to Win
Notable Speech has produced a couple of quality performances in August and September, and we feel Charlie Appleby is bringing him into form at the right time for the Breeders Cup Mile. Back him to win.
Breeders Cup Dirt Mile
Back Baffert’s Citizen Bull each-way
Bob Baffert has a great record at this meeting, and we think that Citizen Bull will be up there. Baffert could be bringing the three-year-old into a late season, after he returned to form with a win at Del Mar in late August. Therefore, a big race in the Dirt Mile could be on the cards.
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint
Sprint Silverware: Back AG Bullet each way
AG Bullet has been there or thereabouts all season, a highlight being a great win at Saratoga, in June. A genuine speed merchant who might not have enough to win but is a great shout for the places.
Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf
Give it a Whirl each-way!
With two first places and a runners-up spot this year, we think that the Aidan O’Brien trained filly Whirl will be there or thereabouts and is worth backing each-way.
Breeders’ Cup Distaff
Seismic Beauty to win Distaff
This Bob Baffert trained four-year-old filly has won her last three races, including a great win at Del Mar in August. We think Baffert will have her in top condition for this one. She is the one to beat in this field.
Breeders’ Cup Classic
Sovereignty to reign supreme: Back this three-year-old to win
Sovereignty became the first horse since Justify, in 2018, to win two or more legs of the prestigious triple crown, with wins at the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. Trainer William Mott resisted the temptation to try to match Justify’s achievement and win all three, opting to skip the Preakness to arrive at the Belmont Stakes refreshed. Mott clearly has a system to avoid burnout and to get his horses performing when it matters. We think he will bag another big victory here.
Read all about it: Journalism a great each-way punt
What a season Journalism has had! Runners-up spots in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes, plus a win in the Preakness show that Michael McCarthy can bring him into form for the big occasions, which is why he features heavily in the Breeders’ Cup Classic betting. We are backing him to do that on November 1.
Breeders’ Cup Sprint
Speed Merchant Bentorato to win
Bentorato was an impressive winner at Churchill Downs, in his first outing of 2025, and we think that he is coming into form at the right time to make an impact here.
How We Select Our Breeders’ Cup Betting Tips
While age is a big factor in horse racing, this is irrelevant for Friday’s programme of races since all the horses are two-year-olds. In general, racehorses are at their peak between the ages of four and five. You must, however, look at the specific race you are betting on and build up the profile of a typical winner. Out of the last 10 editions, four winners have been three-year-olds, four were four-year-olds and two were five-year-olds. So, for the biggest race of this stellar racing festival, younger horses tend to fare well.
This is a high-class meeting and only proven horses that have performed well in big events gain entry. So, while we pay attention to class rating for this one, we are more concerned about horses that are brought into peak condition when it matters by their trainers.
The races at this festival vary in distance. You need to look at the race distance, the past winning times of the race and then look at the horses who have performed well over similar race distances this season. The Breeders’ Cup Classic is over 2000m, so we are looking for horses who have the stamina to handle that sort of distance but who also can get up and running quickly if the race goes off fast.
As we said when discussing class rating. All the horses here are either highly promising two-years-olds (Friday) or top-class horses aged three or more who have qualified. So, studying the form is crucial. Look for trainers who can bring their horses to a peak when it matters. Beware of a horse who has a string of early season victories but appears to be tailing off. You need to look at horses that are coming into form during the backend of the season or those who have been raced sparingly but consistently come up with the goods.
Weather, especially rain, can affect the going on the course. Look for horses who can adapt to different conditions. Also look at horses who can perform well in races that go off at breakneck speed, requiring horses to hold on in the face of fatigue, races that are run even pace, or races that start slower and then burn up. Obviously, all horses have their strengths and weaknesses, but adaptability is a huge plus that we look for when compiling our Breeders’ Cup betting tips.
As we have already alluded to, weather conditions can be a huge factor in horse racing. The 2025 edition of this festival is due to be held at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in South California. The temperatures are considered mild by British standards. However, things are starting to cool down a bit with average temperatures of around 22 degrees Celsius and lows of 16. Rain is rare in October, however, while the chances increase slightly throughout November, a wet track is unlikely. Look at horses who have performed well in similar climates.

Most Popular Breeders’ Cup Betting Markets
This is simply a bet on the horse you think will win. Remember that there are no grey areas with this one. If your horse is first past the post, then your bet will pay out.
This is a good type of wager to place if you fancy a horse, but you think the opposition is strong. Especially if the odds are long enough to make this worthwhile. Your bet is effectively split into two sections, one is for your horse to win, the second is for your horse to place. Look out for bookies offering extra places in a prestigious festival like this. The Breeders’ Cup Classic is likely to have extra each-way places on offer from the bookies and there may be chances in other races here too.
Here you are predicting horses to come first and second (in that order) for a forecast and for a tricast you are predicting the exact finishing order for the first three. No mean feat, especially in high quality races. The reverse versions of these bets are slightly less difficult to pull off. You need to predict the first two or three horses respectively but in any order.
A double is where you pick horses in two different races and bet on them to win. This bet could be used with the Breeders’ Cup Classic and another race over the two days of this festival.
Additional Breeders’ Cup Betting Insights
It is important to do thorough stats-based research when building your Breeders’ Cup sport betting strategy. We leave no stone unturned, so check out a few insights into the Breeders’ Cup that you could find useful.
Breeders’ Cup Jockey & Trainer Stats
While we always stress the importance of checking the form, it is just as important to investigate how jockeys and trainers have performed over the year.
Top racehorses follow a detailed programme, and trainers will build these schedules from their own tried and trusted methods and what is known to suit individual horses. Part of this is the jockey, so a key part is to find winning horse, jockey and trainer combinations.
The stats are out there in the form of ranking lists for jockeys and trainers. Like in other sports, even the top tier stables can have underwhelming years, and top jockeys can be out of form. Keep a close eye on current performances, as well as past achievements.
In the Breeders’ Cup, although it is a North American meeting, there will be a whole host of British and Irish trainers sending their best horses over and there will be loads of jockeys from the UK and Ireland riding across the two days. Therefore, it is important to check out the best performing jockeys and trainers in the UK, Ireland and North America. It would also be prudent to investigate other racing hotbeds, such as Australia, when betting on the Breeders’ Cup.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Reviewed: Racecourse Analysis for Punters
Known as “where turf meets surf” due to its location, just next to the South Californian seaside city of Del Mar, a touch North of San Diego, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will play host to the Breeders’ Cup in 2025. Unusually, it was also the venue last year.
Del Mar is a left-handed course. The main track is a one-mile dirt oval, which is equipped for seven-furlong and 10-furlong races. The turf course is on the interior and is seven-eighths of a mile. It is also set out to stage races over one mile, one and one sixteenth of a mile and one and one eighth of a mile.
The dirt course can favour horses who prefer to stay outside off the rail. Speed horses who get up early tend to do well, with over 60% of wins across all meetings in 2024 going to horses who either set the pace or sat right on the leader. Over 25% of wins went to horses who sat just off the leading pack, leaving a low percentage of wins from closers.
The stats for the turf course are slightly more balanced. 31% of the wins in 2024 went to those who pushed or stayed close to the pace, with those a few lengths down on the leaders coming through to win 35% of the time.
