Bet 1: Bolton v Mansfield – Bolton to Win 10/21
Bolton are currently 11 points and 13 places above Mansfield in League One, the away side arriving on the back of an entertaining 3-2 win at Barnsley. They came back from two goals down that day, which is impressive, but the fact that they were 2-0 behind within 13 minutes shows they are vulnerable defensively and Bolton will be a notable step up in quality.
Before their current three-game unbeaten away streak, the Stags lost three in a row on the road and conceded eight goals. For their part, Bolton continue to roll along at home. A 0-0 draw with Bradford has been their only glitch, Wanderers having scored in every other home game this season for a record of 34 goals in 16 games.
Bolton are solid, consistent, sit fourth in the league and are likely too much for Mansfield to handle.
Bet 2: Cardiff v Stevenage – Cardiff to Win 4/5
It’s first versus fifth at the Cardiff City Stadium, the home side appearing to be back on track now after a nervy 1-0 win over Exeter, which followed defeats to Lincoln (League One) and Man City (Carabao Cup).
At home in this division, Cardiff have scored 17 goals in six games since a blank against Burton Albion. They currently sit three points ahead of Lincoln at the top of the league and are looking good for automatic promotion.
Stevenage are no mugs. The Boro are three games unbeaten since losing to Cardiff at home and four without loss on the road. They’ve scored only four goals in six on their travels though, including a 3-1 win at Stockport, and they could come undone once again at the league’s top side as the Welsh outfit look to complete a fine league double.
Bet 3: Huddersfield v Northampton – Huddersfield to Win 4/7
Huddersfield Town had a sticky patch heading into November, but they are certainly on a roll now. The Terriers are up to seventh in League One following a 5-0 battering of Port Vale after which manager Darren Moore was sacked.
Lee Grant’s side have suffered only one defeat in seven lately, that loss being at league leaders Cardiff City. Furthermore, they haven’t failed to score at home since a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Northampton were battered 5-1 at Burton on Boxing Day; they are low on confidence and could be heading for another sickening defeat at the Accu Stadium.
Bet 4: Accrington v Harrogate – Accrington to win 3/4
Accrington Stanley are currently 17th in League Two. On the face of it, that’s not overly impressive, but they have won seven of their 22 games and are only -1 in terms of goal difference, so they are capable.
The Reds are 10 points ahead of their latest opposition, Harrogate Town, who are down in 23rd place and are on a run of 12 games without a win in the league. Accrington, in fact, beat Harrogate in the reverse fixture on December 9th and, following a couple of defeats, managed to win again versus Barrow on Boxing Day.
Accrington lost 2-0 when going down to ten men back in October against Port Vale, the end of a three-game run of defeats by the same margin, but that hasn’t happened since. They remain consistent and, while they won’t challenge for honours, it’s clear they can put away teams at a provably lower level than themselves and that includes Harrogate Town.
