Popular Betfair Chase Betting Markets
The Betfair Chase is one of the most competitive horse races in existence, naturally drawing a large audience each year. Just like the Grand National, there are numerous betting markets with exceptional odds from leading online bookmakers.
The plethora of opportunities makes choosing a suitable bet rather challenging, so here’s a breakdown of the most commonplace horse racing bets for the Betfair Chase and a few useful betting tips.
Outright Race Winner Betting
The most straightforward and easiest of all markets, an Outright Race Winner lets you place a bet on a horse to win the race outright. Because of its simplicity, this wager tends to be the most popular at all bookies offering horse betting. For your bet to win, your chosen horse has to pass the finishing post first.

Each-Way Betting
With an each-way bet you can place a stake on a horse to win, and double the bet to back the horse to finish in chosen places as well. You get a payout if your horse wins, and also if it comes in among your chosen places.

Forecast Betting
A forecast bet requires picking two horses you believe will finish in first and in second place during the race. To win the bet, both choices need to be accurate in the precise order you enter them in the betting slip. You can also double your bet by placing a reverse forecast bet, whereby both horses can come in first and second in any order.

Top Jockey Betting
An alternative option is to bet on the jockey that performs best throughout the entire day’s racing. The Jockey Club, who are the biggest commercial horse racing organisation in the UK, crowns the best jockey for their performance at the meet. Although the bet isn’t that commonly available, when it is, you can try something a little different with decent odds at most online bookies.

Placepot Betting
Placepot betting is an interesting option whereby you are wagering on all of the races over the entire day’s meet – in this case, the Betfair Chase itself. A placepot bet is a matter of looking at a single day’s race card and selecting one or several horses to place in each of the races over the entire event. With a bit of luck, your wager will carry on throughout the entire competition until the final race, and it will then pay out accordingly.

Betfair Chase Race Structure
Haydock Park is ideally situated just off the main A road that links Manchester and Liverpool. That means the track has a huge potential visitor population which is reflected on the day of the event itself, with attendees arriving at Haydock in large numbers for the first Grade 1 chase of the season.
The northwest of England is a hotbed of sport, and that includes horse racing. Within an hour’s travel, you can visit championship golf courses like Royal Birkdale, four Premier League football clubs, and Old Trafford for international cricket. You also have the world-famous Aintree Racecourse, home of the Grand National…. and Haydock Park for top class Flat and Jump races, including the Betfair Chase. The Epsom Derby is probably the biggest race of the season in the south of England.
It is the first leg of the Jump season's Triple Crown, followed by the King George V1 Chase and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
The race conditions mean male horses carry 11lbs, while females receive a 7lb sex allowance. The fences take some jumping, and the whole picture of the race can change in the long run in, with four demanding obstacles towards the end of a race with a distance of more than three miles. Only the best chasers win the Betfair betting race, so it's good to keep an eye on form and past performances.
History of the Betfair Chase
The Betfair Chase has a short history, first starting in 2005 when the online bookmaker Betfair first established it as part of a £1 million bonus scheme called the Betfair Million. As the name itself implies, the latter offered £1 million to the winner of this race and two subsequent other races, later confirmed as the King George VI Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup, and rebranded as the Chase Triple Crown.
The Betfair Chase has become a crucial stage in the run-up to the Cheltenham Festival, where the best chasers clash at Haydock Park. The race was initially over three miles long; however, it was later extended slightly so runners have a longer stretch towards the first bend.
The Betfair Chase was first registered as the Lancashire Chase, and is the perfect preparation for horses running in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park. The Lancashire race takes place a month before the Christmas spectacular. There is a mouth-watering £1 million bonus for winning the Chase Triple Crown, which was reintroduced in 2015 by the Jockey Club, adding extra spice to the Betfair Chase.
The race is the initial leg of the Chase Triple Crown, with the Grade 1 contest having legendary runners like Kauto Star, who won the Betfair Chase no less than four times. He remains the only horse that managed to win the Chase Triple Crown.
Because of this, the trophy for this achievement has been named the Kauto Star Trophy. It takes a particular horse to win the treble, and so far, no one has matched that incredible feat. If any horse can pick up the Betfair Chase, King George VI Chase and Gold Cup, the prize will be £1 million.
