Betfair Chase Betting Tips & Predictions

We now analyse the prospects of the leading contenders in Betfair Chase, betting on horse racing at the start of November:

Favourite For Betfair Chase

Sometimes when betting on horse racing, you shouldn’t ignore the obvious, even if the odds look restrictive. A Plus Tard was just below even money three weeks before the 2022 Betfair racing event. On form from last season, the favourite should be nearer to 1/3, so the odds are worth taking.

A Plus Tard did not only win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March but made the best chasers in the UK and Ireland look second-rate. The story was much about Rachael Blackmore being the first female jockey to win the Gold Cup, but the performance of the horse was stunning.

A Plus Tard turned the highest-class chase of the season into a procession, pulling clear of defending champion Minella Indo after the final fence. The race analysis read: led last, ridden clear run-in, ran on strongly. The margin of victory at the line was 15 lengths.

In the Betfair Chase of 2021, A Plus Tard was a wide-margin winner, beating the second-placed Royal Pagaille by 22 lengths. The runner-up has a huge task to reverse the form but could be placed in the race again. The 8/1 chance has won three chases at Haydock but at a lower grade.

Betfair Chase Second Favourite

Protektorat finished third in this year’s Gold Cup, 17 and a half lengths adrift of A Plus Tard. The Dan Skelton-trained runner doesn’t get a weight pull in the Haydock contest, so — barring accidents to A Plus Tard — cannot beat the favourite. One of the leading novice chasers of two seasons ago has won four chases in nine starts over fences but can’t add to that tally on form in the Haydock results for the Betfair race.

Winner Clan Des Obeaux beat Protektorat (4th) by 26 lengths in the Grade 1 Betway Bowl at Aintree three weeks after the Gold Cup. The Mildmay Course at the home of the Grand National is a flat track, while the New Course at Cheltenham is undulating. Protektorat is a year younger than A Plus Tard but almost definitely can’t find the improvement to win the Betfair Chase.

Other Betfair Chase Contenders

L’Homme Presse won four chases at the start of last season and then won the Grade 1 novices’ chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March. The gelding beat Ahoy Senor by three and a half lengths, but that horse reversed the form at Aintree. Ahoy Senor finished 18 lengths ahead of L’Homme Presse in Grade 1 for novice chasers on Merseyside.

Eldorado Allen ran well in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby where Bravemansgame put down a marker for King George and will probably bypass Haydock. Ahoy Senor jumped without enough fluency to give Bravemansgame a race. Connections said the race was still on his schedule, so he could be on a retrieval mission in the Betfair Chase if the horse runs.

Clan Des Obeaux keeps coming back for more and has now contested 27 chases. The Aintree form with Protektorat gives Paul Nicholls’s veteran place prospects, but A Plus Tard is on a different planet. The Gold Cup winner can embark on another successful season by winning the horse racing Betfair Chase at Haydock Park on the third Saturday in November.

Popular Betfair Chase Betting Markets

The Betfair Chase is one of the most competitive horse races drawing a large audience. Just like the Grand National event, there are numerous betting markets for horse racing with exceptional odds by the best leading online bookmakers . The plethora of betting opportunities makes choosing a suitable bet rather challenging, so here’s a breakdown of the most commonplace horse racing bets for the Betfair Chase 2021 and a few useful betting tips.

Outright Race Winner Betting

The most straightforward and easiest of all markets, an Outright Race Winner lets you place a bet on a horse to win the race outright. Because of its simplicity, this wager tends to be the most popular at all bookies offering horse betting. For your bet to win, your chosen horse has to pass the finishing post first.

Each-Way Betting

With an each-way bet you can place a stake on a horse to win, and double the bet to back the horse to finish in chosen places as well. You get a payout if your horse wins, and also if it comes in among your chosen places.

Best Betfair Chase betting site for each-way betting: QuinnBet

Forecast Betting

A forecast bet requires picking two horses you believe will finish in first and in second place during the race. To win the bet, both choices need to be accurate in the precise order you enter them in the betting slip. You can also double your bet by placing a reverse forecast bet, whereby both horses can come in first and second in any order.

Top Jockey Betting

An alternative option is to bet on the jockey that performs best throughout the entire day’s racing. The Jockey Club, who are the biggest commercial horse racing organisation in the UK, crowns the best jockey for their performance at the meet. Although the bet isn’t that commonly available, when it is, you can try something a little different with decent odds at most online bookies.

Placepot Betting

Placepot betting is an interesting option whereby you are wagering on all of the races over the entire day’s meet in this case Betfair Chase Day. A placepot bet is a matter of looking at a single day’s race card and selecting one or several horses to place in each of the races over the entire event. With a bit of luck, your wager carries on throughout the event competition until the final race, and it will then pay out accordingly.

Betfair Chase Race Structure

Haydock Park is ideally situated just off the main A road that links Manchester and Liverpool. That means the track has a huge potential visitor population which is reflected on Betfair Chase Day. Racegoers arrive at Haydock in large numbers for the first Grade 1 chase of the season with a prize fund of £200,000 in 2021, which shows the appetite for live sport in the area.

The northwest of England is a hotbed of sport, and that includes horse racing. Within an hour’s travel, you can visit championship golf courses like Royal Birkdale, four Premier League football clubs and Old Trafford for international cricket. You also have the world-famous Aintree Racecourse, home of the Grand National….and Haydock Park for top class Flat and jumps races, including the Betfair Chase. The Epsom Derby is probably the biggest race of the season in the south of England.

It is the first leg of the jumps Triple Crown, followed by the King George V1 Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup. Only Kauto Star has won the three races, but A Plus Tard is good enough to emulate one of the best chasers in the history of the sport. If the Irish-trained horse does win at Haydock, bookmakers will be taking evasive action with their odds for the other two races.

The race conditions mean male horses carry 11 lbs while females receive a 7 lbs sex allowance. The fences take some jumping, and the whole picture of the race can change in the long run in, with four demanding obstacles towards the end of a race with a distance of more than three miles. Only the best chasers win the Betfair betting race, and A Plus Tard is in that bracket.

History of the Betfair Chase

The Betfair Chase has a short history, first starting in 2005 when the online bookmaker Betfair first established it as part of a £1 million bonus scheme called the Betfair Million. As the name itself implies, the latter offered £1 million to the winner of this race and two subsequent other races, later confirmed as the King George VI Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup, and rebranded as the Chase Triple Crown.

The Betfair Chase has become a crucial stage in the run-up to the Cheltenham Festival, where the best chasers clash at Haydock Park. The race was initially over three miles long; however, it was later extended slightly so runners have a longer stretch towards the first bend.

The Betfair Chase was first registered as the Lancashire Chase, and is the perfect preparation for horses running in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park. The Lancashire race takes place a month before the Christmas spectacular. There is a mouth-watering £1 million bonus for winning the Chase Triple Crown, which was reintroduced in 2015 by the Jockey Club, adding extra spice to the Betfair Chase.

The Betfair Chase is the initial leg of the Chase Triple Crown, with the Grade 1 contest having legendary runners like Kauto Star, who won the Betfair Chase no less than four times. He remains the only horse that managed to win the Chase Triple Crown.

Because of this, the trophy for this achievement has been named the Kauto Star Trophy. It takes a particular horse to win the treble, and so far, no one has matched that incredible feat. If any horse can pick up the Betfair Chase, King George VI Chase and Gold Cup, the prize will be £1 million.
