My Glorious Goodwood Best Bet
Silver Lake – 5:55 (Fillies’ Handicap)
This is a fillies’ handicap over a mile and a quarter, one in which William Haggas’ Silver Lake, owned by Wathnan, is most definitely the best handicapped runner. That’s not to say she doesn’t have rivals, but Room Fourteen and Zgharta have to improve at these weights to stop the selection.
Silver Lake, a daughter of Night Of Thunder, likes this fast ground, has already won over the trip, has shown constant improvement since her debut in November, and could have upwards of half a stone in hand. Saffie Osborne rides the Goodwood nap of the day.

Glorious Goodwood Friday Tips: My Next Best Bet
Night Raider – 3:35 (King George Stakes)
One of my Glorious Goodwood best bets comes in the feature race, the Group 2 King George Stakes over the flying five furlongs. Karl Burke’s Night Raider is the choice, another for the Wathnan team.
On fast ground since 2024, Night Raider has run to marks of 70, 104, 93, 99, 109, and 112. He is clearly getting the hang of things on a quick surface, while also learning how to sprint properly as he comes down to five furlongs.
At Ascot, Night Raider won “his” race, faring best of all horses on the wrong side of the track when beaten only a couple of lengths in the Group 1 King Charles III. The winner of that race is now rated 115, and I reckon Night Raider would have beaten him on a level playing field.
The tip does shoulder a 3lb penalty, but he’s way better than the rest, I’d say. I mentioned him on our Glorious Goodwood betting page, and I’ve not changed my mind.

A Strong Goodwood Friday Bet
Into The Light – 5:20 (Handicap)
I backed this lad at Ascot, but things just didn’t go right that day. It happens. I can’t ignore the form of Charlie Appleby’s runner from earlier in the year though, and he’s undoubtedly well in.
By Dubawi, Into The Light beat Al Azd on his debut in February. That horse has gone from strength to strength and is now rated 109. On his third start, our horse was beaten a short head at level weights by Lost Boys, the horse who subsequently won the London Gold Cup and the Golden Gates at Ascot, and is now rated 103.
We can see the sort of area this horse belongs in, but he gets into this handicap off a mark of just 88. That’s crazy low. He was well fancied at Ascot, and we can forgive him one bad run. He’s one of the better Friday horse racing tips.

My First Glorious Goodwood Value Bet
Valiancy – 1:50 (Goodwood Handicap)
Goodwood tips continue with a decent value punt in the opening race, the Goodwood Handicap over the marathon two and a half miles.
It’s a tough one. A maximum field of 18 runners has been declared, but Wathnan Racing’s Valiancy does hold solid claims. He finished sixth at Royal Ascot in the Copper Horse Handicap, beaten only four lengths, and yet his jockey said that he never travelled at all.
He was well backed that day, and plenty is expected of him now.

My Next Glorious Goodwood Value Bet
Scoville – 3:00 (Golden Mile)
Scoville, very well named by Too Darn Hot, was seventh in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, beaten nearly four lengths. To some, that would look like solid form, but why would you think he’s very well handicapped?
Well, take a closer look. Scoville raced on the far side, very much the wrong side, giving him a disadvantage. He also tried to lead his group all the way and was only just run out of it close home. That tactic doesn’t work at Ascot, but can work at Goodwood.
Considering that, and the fact that the near side’s advantage looks like being up to 6lbs, this gelding could be anything up to 10lbs well in if we’re lucky. It’s a tough race and he’s drawn wide here, but there is no cutaway rail as of Friday, so it may be best that he’s on the wing and staying out of trouble.
