Tournament Structure for the RBC Heritage
The RBC Heritage is a four day long, standard strokes play event on the PGA Tour. After two days of play, the field is cut to reduce the numbers of those taking part. Those that have successfully made the cut, continue on to the final two day’s play. By the end of the final day, the tournament should have found a winner, the player with the highest under par score overall. If no winner has been found at that point, a tiebreak played over three holes will take place for the winner of the tournament to be determined. For its entire run, the RBC Heritage has taken place at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. The course, which was designed in 1967 by Pete Dye who had help from the legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, boasts a course yardage of 7,009 and is considered to be par 71.
To honour golf’s Scottish heritage, the winner receives a tartan jacket. For a long time, the winner would not receive his plaid tartan jacket until a full year later at the following year’s event’s opening ceremony, picking up a red jacket at first instead.
One week before the RBC Heritage in the PGA calendar, a green jacket is awarded to the winner of the US Masters. This has led to many believing that the origins of a jacket presentation being part of the ceremony here was simply an attempt to get in on the act. In fact, the introduction of the plaid jackets didn’t come about until the early 70s, when the tournament’s organisers inspired a 1790 golf print of Sir William Innes, the captain of Blackheath’s Society of Golfers in Scotland.
Right up until 2012, the tournament’s logo carried an image of Innes as a nod to his “role” in the competition’s identity. The tartan itself is nowadays called Heritage Plaid and is essentially Royal Stewart tartan but with a yellow line removed.

RBC Heritage Betting Tips & Predictions 2022
-
The dust has finally settled on The Masters, and it was a terrific week of golf at Augusta. Scottie Scheffler slipped into the Green Jacket with a final score of -10, and while Rory McIlroy enjoyed a late dash, it proved to be in vain as he was three shots adrift of the winner. Scheffler could even afford to double bogey on 18th before claiming his first Major and cementing his position as the world ranked No.1.
-
Now, we swiftly turn our attentions to the RBC Heritage, and it will be a star-studded field, although you imagine Scheffler will be giving himself a breather to recuperate after his exploits last weekend. Stewart Cink is the defending champion, but Collin Morikawa looks good value at 12/1 with most leading bookmakers. The American – who finished fifth at The Masters – is still searching for his first win on the PGA Tour in 2022, and this week could be his week.
-
There are plenty of birdie opportunities at Hilton Head, and Morikawa should be up to the task, although the par-4 sixth hole, which plays 427 yards, will be tricky, especially as bunkers are flanking the green.
-
You may however like the look of Shane Lowry, who turned out a solid display as he came home in a tie for third with Cameron Smith at Augusta. He may have been wondering what could have been after a triple bogey at the fourth hole, so he will be eager to bury that disappointment. Lowry is generally a solid putter, and he looks decently priced at the 18/1 mark. The Irishman came second in the Honda Classic, and he has had two other top-20 finishes, so he could well be in contention come the weekend.
-
If you are perhaps feeling slightly more daring, you may want to take a closer look at Daniel Berger. Although he is 40th for average score (70.661), he is fourth in the PGA Tour for strokes gained this season (1.702), so that should count for something surely? Anyway, the American has made five of seven cuts in 2022, and while he was off-colour at The Masters, that shouldn’t deter you. Berger is trading at the 28/1 to win the RBC Heritage, and judging by some of his performances this season, he could be on course for a top-10 finish.

Popular RBC Heritage Betting Markets
Golf is one of the most bet on sports in the world. One of the main reasons for this is the huge fields taking part each week meaning even the favourites can be priced high. Also, the very nature of the game creates loads of fun markets to play. Below, we have listed just a small taste of what the average golf bettor can expect.
First Round Leader Betting
The first-round leader market is a straightforward, fun bet that is a single on the golfer that you believe will be top of the leaderboard at the end of Thursday’s round one. This is particularly useful if you know a player that starts strong but typically fades as the competition goes on because there is no need for your pick to continue doing well after you are finished with him. This bet can also be played each-way.

Top 20 Finish Betting
With this bet, all that bettors need to do is successfully predict a player, or numerous players, who will finish among the top 20 places. While twenty places is a healthy number for players to meet, remember that the fields of competitors in golf tend to be huge so you still need to be a smart bettor. The truly savvy punters tend to search out the career cheque collectors, players that go deep in tourneys but never threaten to win – these are worth backing in this type of market.

Make or Miss the Cut Betting
This stroke play event is one where, after 36 holes, a cut is enforced to thin the field. Players struggling are dismissed from the event while those that make this cut continue to play for the final two days. It is also the only way golfers stand any chance of getting paid for their participation. Happily, it also creates a new betting market for golf fans to wager on names that might potentially make or miss out on the cut.

Hole in One Betting
Betting on there being a hole-in-one at some point in the entire tournament is really nothing more than a prop bet, but it sure is a fun one. Holes-in-one are rare but fans love to see them, and they always go down in history. But, because they do not happen often, the betting odds are high and they pay well, hence why UK bookies offer such a market and bettors usually consider it worth sticking some minor funds on it.

History of the RBC Heritage
-
The Heritage Classic takes its name from its unique role in golfing history. Supposedly debunking a myth that the first rounds of the newly imported Scottish game of golf to be played in the US were played in a golf club outside Yonkers, New York in 1886, Charles Fraser discovered a manifest from a ship from 100 years earlier that detailed “golfer sticks” and “featheries”. Today, this would mean clubs and balls, and these had been sent to South Carolina and Georgia. Their destination meant that they would have docked at Charlestons Green in Charleston near where in the course of today was later established.
-
Back in 1969, that same Charles Fraser announced that he wanted to establish a PGA-level Tournament to take place at Harbour Town Golf Links. The first tourney was to take place over Thanksgiving weekend and no big names were guaranteed to show up for the event. All of that changed when two of the biggest names in golf both agreed to play in that first Heritage Classic.
-
Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus helped put the Heritage Classic on the world golfing map. Palmer actually won the inaugural Heritage Classic, setting a course record that is still in place today at the same time. Today, the RBC Heritage is now held the week after the Masters, and the original purse of $100,000 has swelled considerably to $7.1 million. As well as Palmer, the list of previous winners includes Jack Nicklaus, Bernhard Langer, Johnny Miller, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Nick Faldo, Tom Watson, Davis Love III and Payne Stewart.
