Golf US Masters 2021 Betting Odds, Promotions, Tips & Predictions

The US Masters 2021 will be held at its usual venue, the world-famous Augusta Country Club in Georgia, USA from Thursday the 8th of April through to Sunday 11th of April. Unusually, the US Masters 2021 will be taking place only five months after the US Masters 2020 as the previous tournament was postponed during the Covid-19 pandemic and only held later in the year. This year’s renewal will see the event return to a more familiar slot on golf’s calendar.

2021 US Masters Betting Tips & Predictions

Arguably golf’s most prestigious major is back, this time next week as the Augusta National opens its doors for the 85th edition of the US Masters. Weirdly, thanks to last year’s Covid enforced delayed hosting of the event, we have only had to wait 21 weeks for this year’s tournament to come back around, thankfully now back in its regular April slot.

It was Dustin Johnson who was fitted with the famous green jacket in 2020 and it is him, the world number one of course, who the bookies have been quick to install as favourite. Bear in mind though that no golfer has retained their Masters crown in almost 20 years since five times champion Tiger Woods won his second successive title in 2002. In fact, Woods is one of only three golfers to successfully retain their title.

Bryson Dechambeau is sure to be a popular choice for bettors. He is growing in power and, with one major banked, is gaining a growing army of fans. Now 27, the current US Open champion leads the tour in driving distance with a whopping coverage of 320.8 yards. He also has the highest PGA scoring average of 69.432 but has never finished higher than 21st here. That was back in his amateur days and the concerning thing about betting on Bryson is that azalea-flanked Augusta greens are, if anything, more about accuracy than distance so don’t really play to his game.

The European charge is, according to the bookies and the rankings, likely to be led by Spain’s Jon Rahm, but he continues to disappoint. Hence, we would prefer to get behind Rory McIlroy instead, who is crying out for a green jacket and would have expected to have one by now. We have to go all the way back to 2017 when Sergio Garcia won the Masters for the last time we had a European winner.

Is Jordan Spieth getting close to being back to his best? Well, he has looked better – and improving – recently and is, as we write this, topping the leaderboard on day one of the Texas Valero, although there is much more golf to be played before the start of the Masters. The bookies have shaved his price down to 16/1, his shortest in years, but he does know what it takes to win here having done so in 2015. It certainly wouldn’t be any crazier than Tiger Woods winning in 2019, would it? That said, such a short price on a guy who is winless in the last three seasons and outside of the world’s top 50 – he was ranked 92 as recently as February – should invite caution.

World number two Justin Thomas won the Players last month and made a fourth-place finish at the 2020 Masters. Yes, he missed the Genesis cut but, since last year’s US Open in September, he has banked a top 15 finish in every other event and would make sense as an each-way punt.

Popular Golf US Masters Betting Markets

Golf is not only a great sport, but also one of the best sports to bet on, with its huge fields, long priced favourites, external impacting factors and the sheer number of unexpected twists that occur.  Nowhere is this truer than at the Augusta National for the Masters Tournament, part of the PGA Tour.

Outright US Masters Betting

This is a nice and simple bet that is as straightforward as golf betting gets. It is a one stake wager on the player that you believe will win the tournament on which you are betting, in this case, the Masters Tournament. Unless you are betting each way, then your player must win the event in question for your bet to be successful. Anything less and the bookmaker will keep your stake.

US Masters Winner’s Nationality

With a winner’s nationality bet, the important thing to remember is that you are not selecting the best performing player from any one nominated nation. Instead, you are picking the winning player’s nationality. So, if in 2017 you selected the winning nationality as Spanish, then congratulations on your winning bet, because this was the year that Sergio Garcia finally delivered the goods in a major tourney.

Remember though that historically, this event has been won more often than not by American players. To that end, many bookmakers provide a market such as Americans V the field, where you can bet on anyone other than an American to win, which removes the nationality detail from the wager.

US Masters To Make The Cut

After the first 72 holes, which accounts for two days of play, a cut line is drawn up which will divide those who will be eliminated and those who will continue on two the final two days’ play. This field thinning technique is called the cut and is designed to slim down the competitors. Happily, you are able to bet on who makes the cut in each tourney. Remember though, that the Masters Tournament consists of the smallest golf major field of them all so, naturally, fewer players make the cut.

Golf US Masters Three Balls Betting

The three-ball market in golf betting is a type of bet that is typically offered during the first and second rounds of a four-round tournament. The idea behind this wager is that you select the player in a three-player group that will perform the best out of the trio and post the lowest score for the round. Remember though that in order for the bet to stand, all three players must complete the stated 18-hole round.

Tournament Structure for the Masters

The Masters is the first golfing major championship of the year and is a stroke play event. The tournament traditionally takes place over the first week of April, with the final round being held on the second Sunday of the month. The tournament consists of four rounds at 18 holes each, with a round being played each day from Thursday through Sunday.

After the second round has finished on the Friday, the smallest golf major field of the year is reduced after a cut off score is calculated to trim the field for the final two rounds on the Saturday and Sunday. Should Sunday’s fourth and final round fail to produce a winner, all players tied for the lead are required to take part in a sudden-death playoff. Play begins on the 18th hole and is followed by the nearby 10th, repeating until a winner has been determined.

Since 1949, the winners of the Masters have all joined an exclusive club and have been awarded the famous Green Jacket. It is one of the most iconic awards in sport and the most prestigious prize in golf. The Masters was first played as the August National Invitational back in 1934, and 15 years later, in 1949, the club decided to begin awarding tournament winners the same Green Jacket that was, by then, the established symbol of the club. The first jacket was awarded to the 1949 winner Sam Snead, after which it was retroactively given out to all of the former winners since 1934.

History of the Masters

The land where Augusta now sits was originally the Fruitland Nurseries, and was purchased in 1931 by amateur golfer Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts after the pair had been looking for land on which they would build a golf course. Jones, who won the 1930 Grand Slam, worked with Dr Alister Mackenzie to design the new course, and together they opened for business in December 1932.

By 1934, the inaugural tournament was held, at the time known as The Augusta National Invitation Tournament, and was won by Horton Smith. It was named the Masters Tournament in 1939, and ten years later, the famous Green Jacket was introduced for the winners. By 1952, the Champions Dinner was introduced for the first time, hosted by Ben Hogan on the Tuesday before the tournament. To this day, this dinner is still held on the Tuesday before the Thursday that the Masters gets underway.

ThePuntersPage Final Say

The Masters is one of four major championships in professional golf and the first of the calendar year. One thing that makes it unique from the others though is that, of the four majors, the other three all rotate their host courses, while the Masters is held each year at the same location, the highly respected Augusta National Golf Club.

The field of players at the Masters is typically smaller than those of the other major championships due to this being an invitational event. This spectacular course was the brainchild of Bobby Jones who designed it alongside Alister MacKenzie. Together, they created one of the finest and most visually spectacular courses in the world, noted for its famously tough Amen Corner on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes. Survive this, and maybe the iconic Green Jacket could belong to your pick here at the Masters Tournament!
