King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Betting Tips
We've studied the form throughout the season and delved deep into the trainer and jockey stats to bring you our expert King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes tips.
Calandagan to Win: 2/1 at bet365
Trainer Francis-Henri Grafford has raced Calandagan sparingly this year and the four-year-old looks to be coming into form with two second places, followed by a win in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. He fits the age and profile of a King George and Queen Elizabeth stakes winner and is our pick to take the honours.
Back Amiloc Each-Way: 10/1 at bet365
The three-year-old gelding Amiloc has two wins from two in 2025. If he makes the step up in class, he will be in contention. We think a win is more possible than probable but he is worth backing each-way.
Kalpana a great each-way option: 7/1 at William Hill
Four-year-old Filly Kalpana has a third and a second in two Group 1 races in her only two outings of 2025. Andrew Balding appears to be bringing her into form nicely and we think that she will get into the places in the King George.
Use Non-Runner, No-Bet Wagers
Ante-post betting means that, as standard, if your horse doesn’t run you lose your stake, which is the price you pay for bigger odds. However, the best online bookies now have Non-Runner, No-Bet insurance, meaning that if your horse don’t run, wagers from ante-post markets will be refunded. Two top bookies to offer this are bet365 and Coral.
How We Select Our King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Betting Tips
When preparing our King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes tips, we studied the available statistics and data, including the performances from the horses, the trainers and the jockeys over the flat racing season and the history and trends of the event. We pooled this with the following factors.
Age needs to be considered in horse racing. The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes are for three-year-olds and over. Racehorses tend to peak around four or five-years-old and this is backed up when we look at the age of the previous King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winners. 11 winners in the last 20 editions of the race have been aged four, with 14 aged four or five. Two six-year-olds have won, leaving only four three-year-old winners. The last 10 years have moved away from younger horses even more, with three five-year-olds, three four-year-olds and two six-year-olds winning, with two victories going to three-year-olds, despite an 11lb weight allowance. This is because top trainers rarely target this race for three-year-olds.
This is a Group1 race, so experience in top-tier races can come into play. Horses who have performed well in previous Group 1 races can have an advantage. Of the last 12 winners of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, 10 had previously won a Group 1 event, while 11 from 12 had won at least one win in a Group 1 or a Group 2 race.
The King George race distance is 1 mile, 3 furlongs and 211 yards (2,406 metres). The winning time is usually between 2.26 and 2.33. So, you need to look at horses who have performed well over that sort of distance.
Look at how a horse has been performing recently. While wins and consistent places must obviously be considered, a horse who has been racing well since the start of the season might not hold that form. Look for a horse who has started steadily and is hitting form in the build up to the race. Or a horse who has not raced often but has been entered in the big events and performed well.
Weather, especially rain, can affect the going on the course. Horses who can adjust to the different going on a fast course and a heavy are more likely to run to expectations whatever the weather. The going is often good to firm, so horses with enough speed to run well on a faster track and enough resilience to cope with a harder surface will be capable of performing well in the King George. The distance is just long enough to make it difficult to front run this race and sitting just off the leader or closing in the later stages has often proved effective.
Weather conditions can play a big part in horse racing. Some horses perform better than others in high temperatures. Some horses struggle to get up to speed unless they are warm, while others can get going without any problems in cool conditions. Rain can make the course either slippery or heavy, and some horses adapt better than others when this happens.
King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Jockey & Trainer Stats
When betting on horse racing, it is vital to study trainer and jockey statistics, as well as the form of horses. Looking at successful trainer/jockey partnerships along with the form of individual trainers and jockeys, is important when building a betting strategy.
Getting a racehorse into peak condition for the target races requires a tried and tested method, which includes the right training program, the right number of races, nutrition, facilities and recovery. Jockeys are a key component of this, and the most successful trainers will work with jockeys who are able to the bring the best out of their horses.
We’ve compiled a list of the top performing trainers and jockeys from the UK flat racing season so far to use in your research.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Racecourse Tips
Ascot Racecourse is one of Britain’s iconic horse racing venues. The track is a right-handed course with long straights. It is generally a fast track, though its undulations mean it is a true test of skill and stamina for jockeys and horses.
The finish is uphill, meaning it favours horses with stamina. However, the going is usually quick, so horses need to have enough speed to handle a quick pace on a fast turf.
Similar attributes are required at Sandown and Newmarket, so if a horse performs well on those courses, then they can handle Ascot.

Most Popular King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Betting Markets
The King George is one of the most prestigious open age flat races in the UK, generating huge interest and plenty of betting opportunities. King George Racing Weekend and the main race itself have many markets. We have highlighted the most popular.
A winner bet is simply a wager on who you think will win the race. When picking your selection for King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, remember that you will only get your money if your horse comes in first, regardless of how well it performs. No win means no pay out on this type of bet.
An Each-way bet is a wager split into two parts. The first part of the bet is a wager on your pick to win and the second part is for your horse to finish in the places. This would normally mean ¼ of the odds for a horse to finish in the top three. For important events like the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes bookmakers will often run promotions offering extra places for each-way bets, so, look out for this when placing your bets.
Forecast bets are where you select two horses to come 1st and 2nd, in that order. The amount that the forecast pays is announced after the race. A reverse forecast, where you predict the first two horses but, in any order, will have lower odds.
Tricast bets work in the same way as forecasts, but you must place three horses rather than two. This is more difficult to predict, so you will get longer odds. Bringing home a bet such as this one, in a top-quality race, is far from easy. A combination tricast allows you to win if your horses finish in the first three, in any order, but your bet must be multiplied by six.
A double is where you pick horses in two different races and bet on them to win. If both horses win, your bet is successful – however, if one or both lose, your wager loses. You could use this type of bet at a couple of other races over the King George Racing Weekend or, with the George Stakes and another race.
