Former British Open Champion Collin Morikawa will go into this year’s event at Portrush with a new caddie in the form of the vastly experienced Billy Foster. There has been a revolving door around the position of Morikawa’s bag man this year with Foster being the fourth caddie employed by the American in 2025.

Morikawa will be hoping that Foster’s experience can help push him back into contention for golf’s biggest prizes. Despite an underwhelming start at the Genesis Scottish Open, we feel that the good times could be just around the corner for Morikawa and that his odds of 33/1 to win The Open look like an appealing each-way bet.

Who Is Billy Foster? And Can He Get Morikawa Back in Contention?

Foster is a seasoned caddie with a track record of getting the best out of the golfers he has worked with. Top pros to have had him on the bag include Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjørn. He split from Matt Fitzpatrick earlier this year after a six-year partnership during which Fitzpatrick won the 2022 US Open.

The appointment is temporary. Foster has stated that a barrier to joining Morikawa’s team full time would be his reluctance to caddie for the United States in the Ryder Cup. But the Englishman could just be the man to get Morikawa firing again, despite a poor start in Scotland, meaning that the American could be a great outside bet at The Open.

Morikawa Is a Great Each-Way Option at 33/1

Morikawa is currently priced at 33/1 with bet365. The bookie is offering each-way odds at  ⅕ for the first eight places. We don’t think that Morikawa is a winner, but we feel that he could come through to the places.

He has the quality to win majors as he has proved in the past and with a fresh pair of eyes in the form of a new caddie, he could make the necessary tweaks to come back to form. Check out our guide for more tips on the Open

Other Open Outsiders to Bet On

We have looked through the field and have studied the odds from the UK’s best golf betting sites. We feel that there are a couple of outsiders who we feel that the bookies have overlooked.

Tom McKibbin 125/1 at BetVictor

Tom McKibbin has been playing on Portrush since he was 10 years old and he has been a member of the club for the last decade. Currently on the LIV Tour, McKibbin has had a couple of top five finishes and has made the cut in each of his four Major appearances to date. He knows the course like the back of his hand, so he is worth an each-way punt.

Harry Hall 90/1 at 10Bet

Harry Hall has shown great consistency in recent times, racking up seven consecutive top 25 finishes. His putting is his strength, and he could sneak into the places. He's another one worth considering for an each-way bet.
