Golf Valspar Championship 2020 Betting Odds, Tips & Predictions – UPDATE

Due to the outbreak of the Covid19 virus in 2020, the PGA took the unprecedented step of cancelling or postponing several flagship tournaments on their tour in an effort to help slow down the spread of the virus and protect the health of the athletes, officials, spectators and volunteers. Unfortunately, this tournament was one of the cancelled events and as such was not staged in 2020.

Popular Golf Bets for Valspar Championship

Few sports are as compatible with betting as golf. By its very nature, golf is the type of sport that regularly thrills bettors and punters the world over. This is because of the long odds offered on the favourites, plus the huge crowds that tee off weekly. Both of these factors and more, ensure that there are many varied kinds of bet types offered on golf, meaning there is something to suit each type of golf bettor.

There is no messing around with an outright bet. It is simply designed for people to pick the player that they believe will win the tournament outright. This simplicity makes it easy to understand which might explain its popularity. One of the best things about betting on golf is that even the favourites to win outright are often ‘long’ priced. They will still be shorter priced than their competitors but with much better value than you would get on the favourite to win at, for example, tennis, darts or snooker, etc. This value owes its existence to the fact that around 140 players tee off in a golf tourney each and every week of the year.

Top Nationality Betting

Another idea is to look at the top nationality markets which can be prove to be worthwhile in the case of their only being two or three representatives from a certain country in the field. This means that your chosen player only has to outscore one or two others in order for you to secure a payout. As is the way with betting and bookmakers calculation, the more probable an outcome, the shorter the odds. So, while backing, say one of three or four South Korean players to fare better than his countrymen, the odds won’t be all that long. The same is true in reverse too as selecting one American over his compatriots when they by far outnumber the other competing nationalities will bring up better prices but in turn will be much harder to call.

1st Round Three Balls

With three ball betting in golf, you wager on which player in a three-player group will shoot the lowest round. Three ball bets – and two ball bets for that matter – are typically offered in the 1st and 2nd rounds of a four round, stroke play tournament. The bet counts toward a typical round of 18 holes and you will find these listed in your bookie’s golf section for each available tournament. Once you have found the correct market, you simply decide on which player will do better in their group and place your wager. For added fun and extra value, these can be grouped together in an accumulator bet.

Highest Finishing Rookie Or Winner Of The Arnold Palmer Award

The PGA Tour Rookie Award, or Arnold Palmer Award, was first introduced after the 1989 season and this bet plays reference to that. The PGA Tour Rookie bet has proven popular over recent years and is growing in prominence. In fairness, this is a bet better suited for those in the know and avid followers of golf because it rewards them for paying attention to the PGA ranking events that provide a platform for the up and coming young stars among the next generation of golfers. Robert Gamez won the first one in 1990 and stellar names to follow in his path include Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth. For the record, the recipient of the award doesn’t necessarily need to be a young player. Instead, the award can be presented to a golfer that hasn’t been playing on the PGA Tour for a very long time.

Tournament StructureForGolf Valspar Championship

The Valspar Championship is a standard strokes play tournament that takes place annually in Tampa Florida. Spread over four days, there is a cut midway through the tournament after day two has finished. At this point around half of the field are eliminated from the competition leaving the remainers, those that have made the cut, to play out the remaining two days play. By Sunday, the player with the lowest below-par score will be on top of the leaderboard and will be the winner. Should more than one player remain tied after play has finished, a sudden death three-hole shootout will be staged to find the latest champion.

History of Golf Valspar Championship

The tournament began life in 2000 and was, at the time, known as the Tampa Bay Classic. It was originally planned as an alternate event taking place in mid to late autumn, adjacent to the 2000 Presidents Cup and the same week as the WGC American Express Championship in 2002. After only one year, it was cancelled in 2001 owing to the September 11 attacks in New York City that same year. Normal service was resumed in 2003 and for the following three seasons, the event, then sponsored by The Chrysler Corporation, had a slot in the calendar in late October before the Tour Championship. In 2007 the event was moved to March bumping the Players Championship to mid-May. After numerous sponsors over the years, Valspar Corporation signed a four-year deal in September 2013to become title sponsor of the event and are still the sponsors today.
