US Open Betting Tips & Predictions 2026
Shinnecock plays a unique role this week in that the course is exceptionally difficult. However, from a betting perspective, that opens the door to some freak results, which blows the market wide open. Here are our top US Open golf betting tips for 2026.
Brooks Koepka – 33/1 William Hill (If fit!)
The first pick has a caveat: it’s not confirmed whether Brooke Koepka will play this week. He withdrew in the final round of the RBC Canadian Open, and while early reports are that he still plans to tee it up in New York, it will likely be a late call, so bear this in mind.
Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour in February has taken a little time to get going. He’s openly admitted that getting back into the swing – no pun intended – of cut golf over 72 holes has taken a while to get used to. But there are areas of his game that are showing signs of life.
His injury last week was unfortunate, after an epic opening round 64 and a quality 68 to head into the weekend right in the mix. And let’s not forget that he won his second US Open in 2018 at this very course, so there’s history here.
He should be priced around the 40/1 mark, and that’s good value, even if you decide to mitigate a bit of risk and back him each-way.
Tyrrell Hatton – 35/1 Betfred
There aren’t many guys who have been as consistent in majors without winning one as Tyrrell Hatton over the last few years. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship but, prior to that, finished T3 at the Masters, T4 at the 2025 US Open, and T16 at the 2025 Open Championship.
Hatton comes into the week after a hard-fought win on LIV in Andalucía. This was played at Valderrama, an incredibly tough course, and should be good practice heading into a similarly tough one this week.
In terms of stats, he’s gaining 1.5 strokes in Approach, which is elite ball striking territory. Shinnecock sounds like it’s going to be fairly kind off the tee, and then the brutally small green complexes are tough to navigate. This should be set up for Tyrrell, and he could finally break his major duck here.
Alex Fitzpatrick – 90/1 Each-Way Betfred
What a season Alex Fitzpatrick is having. A win in India on the DP World Tour in March was backed up the following week with a win in the Zurich Classic with brother Matt by his side. True fairy tale stuff.
But what's been most impressive has been his ability to grab his chance with both hands and run. He finished T9 at the Cadillac, 4th at the Truist, T6 in the Memorial at Jack’s place, and then T20 at the RBC Canadian Open last week. This kid has arrived, and the bookies are asleep at the wheel here.
There’s probably not another player, Scheffler included, who is in better form than Alex is right now, yet here we are, heading into the third major of the year with US Open championship golf betting odds for him at 90/1 with some of the best golf betting sites for the United States. It’s a huge price and a brilliant each-way bet this week.
Key Golfers to Watch
We’ve covered where the value lies this week in our tips for the US Open, and now we want to expand on a few names to watch. These aren’t necessarily where our money would be heading, but we’d be hard-pressed to argue with anyone backing them.
Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler likely won’t be too far away this week, as per usual. The current world number one is without a win since his opening tournament of the year at the American Express, but you’d be a fool to write him off. He needs the US Open to complete the career Grand Slam, and it would be no surprise to see him do it at Shinnecock this week.
Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy missed the cut here in 2018, but if you’re thinking of having a dabble for Rory to get his second major of the year, that shouldn’t bother you. The Northern Irishman isn’t as consistent as Scheffler, but on his day, he’s the best in the world. He simply must get the ball in play off the tee, which has been hurting him of late. However, he comes into this week after solid runs at the Memorial (T12), PGA Championship (T7) and the Truist (T19), along with that famous win at The Masters. Another who will be there or thereabouts come Sunday.
Jon Rahm
Jon Rahm was very close to being a part of our main golf US Open betting tips, but 10/1 feels a little short of the Spaniard. His second place in the PGA Championship this year will have alleviated some worries about his major form since moving to LIV. He’s still got the game to win, but his putting has let him down at times over the last 18 months, and it will be tested to the max this week. Another who has the talent to win, but one we might avoid based on his odds and instead, we would wait to target The Open Championship for Rahm, which should be more suited.
Shinnecock Hills Course Analysis
Shinnecock Hill is a 7,440-yard par-70 beast of a course. It’s among the top 10 hardest golf courses in the United States, based on its course index, and will be a stern test for players this year.
In 2018, the last time it hosted the US Open, no player broke par, with Brooks Koepka’s winning score of +1 enough to get the job done. It’s relentless, with only two par 5’s and five par 4’s measuring 485+ yards.
The course isn’t as wide as some, nor will the rough be as long, but if it’s windy, it will be extremely hard to play. Strokes gained off the tee, total driving, and approach proximity will be crucial this year, even though reports suggest the William Flynn layout will offer slightly wider fairways than usual at 48 yards, favouring longer, less accurate players off the tee.
The biggest defence mechanisms for the course are the greens. Mown run-offs, false fronts, severe slopes and elevated greens make missed approach shots very costly. Targeting players who are good with long irons, like Tyrrell Hatton, will be key.
It won’t be a birdie fest this week, and par is gold. Check out our golf betting previews for more top tips this week.
Prize Pool for US Open 2026
The prize pool for the 2026 US Open is set to be around $21.5 million. The winner will pick a cheque worth around $4.3 million.
