Cheltenham November Meeting 2020 Tips & Predictions
The Paddy Power Gold Cup Handicap Chase is the highlight of the second day of the meeting. With just days to go, Saint Sonnet is the favourite. He is new to the Paul Nicholls’ stable, moving in from France over the cold season but, given that Nicholls has produced two winners of this race as well as having numerous placed finishers, a case can be made for five-year-old Saint Sonnet who did after all win on his British debut last February.
Simply The Betts has also enjoyed success, winning the Grade 3 Stable Plate Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March beating Happy Diva who also goes in this and even won it last year. Simply The Betts will, however, need to weather the 8lb raise in the handicap. Mister Fisher enjoyed victory in the Grade 2 Lightning Novices' Chase at Doncaster before stepping out in the Grade 1 Marsh Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival where he came in fourth behind Samcro. Trained by Nicky Henderson, six-year-old Mister Fisher has not been out since so it will be interesting to see how he handles his return. As for last year’s winner, Happy Diva, she has been out since, making her return at Wetherby in October, coming fifth 5m3f.
The promising Al Dancer posted a ¾ lengths victory at Newton Abbot in October and is another Festival winner here having won the Novices Chase in 2019. His trainer, Nigel Twiston-Davies, has trained the winner of this three times so it could pay off to keep an eye on Al Dancer.
Popular for Cheltenham November Meeting Markets
This event is a three-day meet with at least six races taking place each day, making for numerous and great betting opportunities to enjoy. Below are a few of the most popular markets that you should consider placing a bet on.
Race Winner
To back a horse to win in a race, simply click on the name of your chosen horse to enter it on to your betting slip. Back up your prediction with a stake you are comfortable with, and place your bet. For this bet to win, your horse needs to be first past the post. If you prefer, you can make the bet each-way by doubling up your stake and backing the horse to finish among the places too. If the horse wins, you get paid on both parts of the bet; if it doesn't win but still finishes among the places, then you still get paid for the place.
Forecast
With a forecast bet, punters are required to pick the two horses that they believe will finish first and second in a race. For the bet to pay out as a winner, the two selected runners must finish in the exact order that the bettor has entered on to the betting slip. If they prefer, a bettor can double the stake and place a reverse forecast, which means that the same two horses can come home first and second – but in any order. Remember, at some online bookmakers, a minimum £1 bet is all it takes to unlock live streaming of the race you are betting on, so you can even watch the action in real time if you like.
Top Jockey
Over the course of three days, there is a lot of racing, and the Jockey Club will crown a Top Jockey for the best performing rider at the meet. If, after looking at the rides for the three days, you believe that you know which jockey is likely to outperform all others, then this is a bet worth considering. For instance, in 2019, Charlie Deutsch won the award for the leading jockey in that year.
Daily Placepots
Placepots are fun bets that, ideally, last for an entire day’s racing. Placing a Placepot bet is a simple case of looking at a single day’s race card (see below) and picking a horse, or horses, to place in each of the day’s races. With any luck, your bet will carry on through the day until the sixth race, when it will pay out according to a Tote announced amount applicable to the pound.

History of the Cheltenham November Meeting
This racing event came to be in the year 2000, when the Jockey Club had the bright idea of bringing together a collection of races that were already being run at Cheltenham and grouping them together in a three-day meet. This meeting was designed to kick off the National Hunt season, just as the Cheltenham Festival traditionally closes the jump season.
Back when it started, the meeting was officially called the Cheltenham Open, and was far from an instant success. As the years went by, races of higher and higher quality were added to the schedule until eventually, the Cheltenham Open became the second biggest event on Cheltenham’s calendar.
Today, this is one of the most exciting meetings of the entire year. The change in name, which came about in 2017, occurred because event organisers, the Jockey Club, felt that the name clashed with the Open Golf Championship, even though that event is held in July each year.
