About The Cheltenham November Meeting
This racing event came to be in the year 2000, when the Jockey Club had the bright idea of bringing together a collection of races that were already being run at Cheltenham and grouping them together in a three-day spectacular. This meeting was designed to kick off the National Hunt season, just as the Cheltenham Festival traditionally closes the jump season.
Back when it started, the event was officially called the Cheltenham Open, but was far from an instant success. As the years went by, races of higher quality were added to the schedule until eventually, the Cheltenham Open became the second biggest event on Cheltenham’s calendar.
Today, this is one of the most exciting meetings of the entire year.

Cheltenham November Meeting Betting Tips & Predictions 2023
While I have no crystal ball with regards to the results of those fateful November Saturday and Sunday races, I hope that my tips can help you form the most informed and logistically sound bets possible.
Predictions
1. My Drogo To Place
When place betting on the Paddy Power Gold Cup, I’d say that the best value odds, considering the number of participants and their quality, will be towards the upper half of favourites.
My Drogo fits the bill perfectly at 20/1, though I think he might be a little bit underestimated by bookmakers.
He returned from a 21–month absence in a disappointing performance at Aintree on the 29th October 2023, finishing 9th out of 11 competitors.
However, their form before this, I am talking about the 2021 Mersey Novice’s Hurdle’ winner here after all, suggests much more potential. I feel bookmakers may be making too much of a single performance, and that could mean great value odds here.
2. A Winner To Come In At 16/1
This is based on the current Cheltenham November Meeting betting odds.
If you look at the best odds above, there are several quality racers with odds of 16/1 for these famed November Sunday and Saturday races. While this might seem like a long shot, the number of racers still puts each of these participants well into the top half of potential winners.
And with multiple opportunities at these odds, I think that one of them (in either race) will defy the odds and come out a winner at 16/1.
3. One Favourite Likely To Underperform
At a racing event as big as the Cheltenham November Meeting, even the favourites have quite long odds.
Two examples here would be Stage Star in the case of the Paddy Power Gold Cup, and Namean Lion in the Unibet Greatwood Hurdle Race.
Converted odds come out at 10% or below of winning probability, meaning it is very likely that one of the above runners is going to fall short. In fact, with so many other contenders vying for those top slots, our third prediction is that one of the top picks doesn’t even place.
So, if you’re looking at place markets, especially if you’re making multiple selections such as forecast bets, consider the possibility that the favourites might not even make it that far.
Note: Like all other sports, horse racing is unpredictable, meaning anything could happen. Bear in mind that our above predictions have been provided to help you optimise your betting strategy, rather than forecast exact outcomes.
Cheltenham Betting Tips
-
Longer odds are largely for dreamers
-
Look for extra place offers
-
Consider multiple bookmakers
1. Longer Odds Largely for Dreamers
Look, it’s not impossible that the 50/1 outsider could win a major race at the Cheltenham November Meeting. And if what you want is the chance to win quite a lot of money without having to bet a great deal (you’d get £510 in returns with a £10 bet) then by all means, go for it and have fun.
But do be aware of how slim your chances are in reality. Consider the actual likelihood of the least regarded racer beating dozens of top tier competitors, and you may find those odds lacking.
With up to 34 participants, I think those looking to realistically see a return will want to focus on shorter odds, with place betting and multiple bet options in mind.
2. Look For Extra Place Offers
I’ve seen plenty of great promotions which can provide big benefits for these markets.
There are those which can boost betting odds, and free bets which allow you to place a wager without any additional (initial) deposit or bet required.
But, for a race like this, there’s none more impactful than extra place promotions.
This is a type of offer where the number of places which count as a winning bet go up, meaning it can quite literally turn a losing bet into a winner.
If you’re planning on place betting and have the choice between two operators, one of which pays out if your pick makes the top 3, and another the top 5, the latter is an absolute game changer in terms of odds value.
3. Consider Multiple Bookmakers
The above betting tip is made a whole lot easier if you are open to the idea of signing up to multiple bookmakers.
Keep in mind that there’s no penalties for doing so. While an operator may like you to only bet with them, they have about as much right to stop you from wagering elsewhere as a supermarket has in preventing you from buying bread at the competition.
And the benefits are numerous. Just check out our table of the most competitive odds at the Cheltenham November Meeting, and you’ll see that many different operators provide the best value on each horse.
More bookmakers can literally mean bigger returns, especially when you consider the additional promotions you’ll have access to.

Popular Cheltenham November Meeting Betting Markets
This highly anticipated event makes for numerous and great betting opportunities to enjoy. Below are a few of the most popular markets that you should consider placing a bet on.
Race Winner Betting
For this bet to win, your horse needs to be first past the post. If you prefer, you can make the bet each-way by doubling your stake and backing the horse to finish among the places too. If the horse wins, you get paid on both parts of the bet; if it doesn't, but still finishes among the places, then you still get paid for the place.
Forecast Betting
With a forecast bet, you are required to pick the two horses that you believe will finish first and second in a race. For the bet to pay out as a winner, the two selected runners must finish in the exact order that you have entered on to your betting slip.
Another option you have is to double the stake and place a reverse forecast, which means that the same two horses can come home first and second – but in any order. Remember, at some online bookmakers, a minimum £1 bet is all it takes to unlock the livestream of the race you are betting on, so you can even watch the action in real time if you like.
Top Jockey Betting
The Jockey Club will crown a Top Jockey for the best performing rider at the meet. For instance, in 2019, Charlie Deutsch won the award in that year.
If, after looking at the rides for the three days, you believe that you know which jockey is likely to outperform all others, then this is a bet worth considering.
Daily Placepots Betting
Placepots are fun bets that, ideally, last for an entire day’s racing. Placing a Placepot bet is a simple case of looking at a single day’s race card (see below) and picking a horse, or horses, to place in each of the day’s races.
Hopefully, your bet will last until the sixth race. Then, the payout will be according to a rate set by the Tote, the UK's official bookmaker, and applied to the pound.
ThePuntersPage Final Say
Held each year by the Jockey Club in November at one of the UK’s most famous racecourses, the Cheltenham Meeting is the perfect way to open Britain’s National Hunt horse racing season.
Set over three days with a minimum of six races per day, the meeting is enjoyed by all, and is accompanied by live music and entertainment, and even camel racing shows. Horse racing is the big attraction, though, and Cheltenham November Meeting certainly doesn’t disappoint in this regard!
