Cheltenham November Meeting Betting Tips & Predictions 2022
- One of the crown jewels of the UK’s pre-Christmas national hunt schedule, Cheltenham’s November meeting makes its return this Friday.Over the three days of the festival, there are eight Graded races to enjoy, the most prestigious of which is Saturday’s Paddy Power Gold Cup. With a prize pool worth £160,000, the race attracts some of the best handicap chasers in the sport. Many of these will be getting their first run out of the new jump season and will have been preparing for this event all summer. The race and meeting in general should also offer us some pointers on what we can expect at this course for the National Hunt season and the big festival in March.
- At the time of writing, Stolen Silver is the favourite to win the race at around the 8/1 mark. The Sam-Thomas-trained seven-year-old will be having his first run of the season in the big race, but has a win and two seconds in six starts at the track, so he looks a worthy favourite if the lengthy break hasn’t done him any harm.
- The second favourite for the big race is Ga Law from the Jamie Snowden yard, having already shaken the rust of the close season off with a run at Aintree last month. The six-year-old has plenty of improvement in him over the course of the season which is a positive, but the negative is that this will be his first spin around Cheltenham - and you never quite know how a horse is going to handle a track for the first time.
- The Irish charge is led by French Dynamite, who opened his season with a spin over hurdles a few weeks ago. This will be the first time the Mouse-Morris-trained runner will race outside of Ireland, although whether the handicapper will have taken the right hold on him remains to be seen.
- We are guaranteed a different winner of the race, asMidnight Shadow is not lining up to defend the title. Instead, the highest-rated horse in the field among the early entries is Happygolucky, a horse which hasn’t been out of the first four at Cheltenham in four runs but who hasn’t been on the track since Grand National day in 2021. If he returns fit, though, he is the best horse in the field and could be the value pick at 14/1.

Popular Cheltenham November Meeting Betting Markets
This highly anticipated event makes for numerous and great betting opportunities to enjoy. Below are a few of the most popular markets that you should consider placing a bet on.
Race Winner Betting
For this bet to win, your horse needs to be first past the post. If you prefer, you can make the bet each-way by doubling your stake and backing the horse to finish among the places too. If the horse wins, you get paid on both parts of the bet; if it doesn't, but still finishes among the places, then you still get paid for the place.
Forecast Betting
With a forecast bet, punters are required to pick the two horses that they believe will finish first and second in a race. For the bet to pay out as a winner, the two selected runners must finish in the exact order that the bettor has entered on to the betting slip.
Another option you have is to double the stake and place a reverse forecast, which means that the same two horses can come home first and second – but in any order. Remember, at some online bookmakers, a minimum £1 bet is all it takes to unlock livestream of the race you are betting on, so you can even watch the action in real time if you like.
Top Jockey Betting
The Jockey Club will crown a Top Jockey for the best performing rider at the meet. For instance, in 2019, Charlie Deutsch won the award in that year.
If, after looking at the rides for the three days, you believe that you know which jockey is likely to outperform all others, then this is a bet worth considering.
Daily Placepots Betting
Placepots are fun bets that, ideally, last for an entire day’s racing. Placing a Placepot bet is a simple case of looking at a single day’s race card (see below) and picking a horse, or horses, to place in each of the day’s races.
With any luck, your bet will carry on through the day until the sixth race, when it will pay out according to an amount announced by the Tote, the UK’s national bookmaker, which is applicable to the pound.
History of the Cheltenham November Meeting
This racing event came to be in the year 2000, when the Jockey Club had the bright idea of bringing together a collection of races that were already being run at Cheltenham and grouping them together in a three-day meet. This meeting was designed to kick off the National Hunt season, just as the Cheltenham Festival traditionally closes the jump season.
Back when it started, the meeting was officially called the Cheltenham Open, and was far from an instant success. As the years went by, races of higher and higher quality were added to the schedule until eventually, the Cheltenham Open became the second biggest event on Cheltenham’s calendar.
Today, this is one of the most exciting meetings of the entire year. The change in name, which came about in 2017, occurred because event organisers, the Jockey Club, felt that the name clashed with the Open Golf Championship, even though that event is held in July each year. In 2020, the event was held without spectators in the venue due to the pandemic.
2021 saw the return of the crowds, and thanks to Paddy Power’s sponsorship saw the prize money boosted to £160,000, a great reward for a Grade 3 race!
