Coral Eclipse Stakes is the biggest flat race of the season at Sandown Park, and as such it attracts some of the biggest and best trainers in the sport. Sir Michael Stoute and Aiden O’Brien have each won this race six times, so any time they enter a horse, punters and spectators alike are immediately on the alert.

This race takes place at Sandown Park, which is a right-handed track. Thus, horses who are more comfortable on their right front leg as opposed to their left should be preferred. With Sandown having a reputation testing stamina, it may well be worth looking for horses that can keep the pace for the full 1m2f distance.

Here are some of the most popular betting markets available for the Eclipse Stakes, as well as for most other racing events. Check our beginner’s guide to horse racing to learn more about betting on this sport!

  • List Icon

    1. To Win A simple and straightforward market, this is where you place your bet on a horse to win – and if it comes first, you win as well! Any other position, however, and your bet will be declared a loser.

  • List Icon

    2. Each-Way Betting An each-way bet involves splitting your stake into two bets: a win bet and a place bet. If the horse wins, you collect on the win half and the place half. If the horse comes in one of the place positions, you collect on the place part but lose the stake of the win half. Make sure you are aware of the each-way terms with your bookie, as some offer more places than others.

  • List Icon

    3. Forecast Bet A forecast bet is where you are betting on which horse will win and which horse come second. The two horses you select will need to finish the race in that order for you to win.

  • List Icon

    4. Reverse Forecast A reverse forecast is similar to the forecast bet, except the two horses can come first and second in either order.

  • List Icon

    5. Double Bet A double bet is where you pick horses in two different races and bet on them to win. If both horses win, your bet is successful – however, if one or both lose, your bet is a loser.

  • List Icon

    6. Non Runner No Bet Most bets have specific terms for a refund, meaning that if your horse does not run, for what ever reason, your bet will be cancelled and the stake returned to you. In the industry, this is called Non Runner No Bet.
