“With few exceptions, it is always the underdogs who win through sheer will power,” said Pele, who was arguable the greatest footballer to ever live. This saying has clearly stuck with Sportnation as after a couple of heavy years trying to get some recognition, they have now began to make the changes to become one of the most recognisable betting sites in the UK.

Introduction to Sportnation betting

Launched in 2017, the London based firm who are ran and produced by online gaming titans Argyll Entertainment, have huge ambitions to gain a more global fan base, but are currently settling for the UK market while they grow. Fully licensed by the UK gambling Commission, Sportnation Only opens its doors to UK customers (and Ireland) but offers sport markets from all around the world, with some of the best odds coming from the American based sports.

When a new operator hits the market like this, a lot of people ask themselves the same question, ‘Is it reliable and can we trust it?’ Well in this review we hope to answer that question for you and provide you with as much information as possible so you will be confident in your decision.

Bonuses and offers

So, as a betting site, they actually have a lot of bonuses and offers going on. Some are seasonal too based on what’s happening in the sports world at that current time. Earn rewards points for every sports bet and spin. For every bet you make you will receive some rewards points, a bit like having a loyalty card, and once you collect a certain amount you will then be able to exchange them for free bets and/or bonuses.

Other bonuses which run on the side can be useful and good for you to know. They are also offering 25% of your stake amount back if you place a total of 4 bets on Virtual Sports, which is a fantastic offer and not something we have come across before. Finally every Tuesday, when you bet £10 on Horse Racing, you get a £2 free casino bonus. All the terms and conditions can be found on the page however these little offers and bonuses are good to note in mind. You could end up racking up a lot of bonuses and free bets if you put your mind to it.

Betting coverage and markets

Ok, so if we are being totally honest, the layout of the site needs a slight bit of improvement. The home page which you are directed to once you select it in google, is good and seems fairly simple. You have the matches that are coming up on that day along with quick odds on home team to win, away team to win and draw. Down the left side of the page is events happening in different sports around the world, kind of like a quick jump to the odds page for that market. Unfortunately, they let themselves down when you go more in depth.

If you select an event You will see a huge list of all the odds for the different betting markets and bet types. This ranges from corners bets, to half time full time bets, all the way to first Goalscorer. Now the amount of markets they have is very good, and this adds a bonus to it. The only issue is that everything looks so clustered. It feels cramped and as though it was all just thrown on to the page with no real planning or thought to how it looks visually. When you select a market, it will have a drop down which then offers the odds, which is nice, but once again it could be visually more appealing to the eye.

The other point we would like to make which can be a bit annoying, is that if you select a bet market which happens to be at the bottom of the page, the bet slip remains at the top meaning you have to scroll all the way back up again. It would be great if the bet slip could remain with you on the right side of the page regardless of where you are on the site.

Focus seems to be given to the football side of things on the site. They seem to advertise the main matches on either that day or what’s coming up on the weekend games. In particular any international meeting and Premier League games seem to take priority over others. Considering that this is a UK based site, this makes a lot of sense. They do have fantastic odds however on the American based sports such as American football, Baseball and Basketball. Argyll Entertainment are known for this even on their other sites which they look after. There odds for American based sports seem to excel a lot of other UK based sites.

Mobile interface

It seems as though Sportnation are wanting their customers to use the mobile app more. Whether or not they would like to focus the majority of their customer on desktop or mobile, we do not know, but what we do know is that the app is impressive, especially considering it hasn’t been available for that long.

SportNation Mobile App iOS

It’s only available on IOs, which is something they need to improve on, however saying this they have quite a lot of downloads already and some great offs to for specific mobile users. They layout of the app is very encouraging, its simple to use and fast when a market is selected to open. The bet slip follows you when you scroll down the page and you can hide the bet slip too, as the screen on a phone isn’t as big as the desktop, it can get in the way. The site can be reached also on mobile without downloading the app, but this is not something we advise, as its slower and the interface isn’t as great.

They say mobile betting is the way forward, so I can see that a lot of effort has been put into this app. Overall its very good and easy to use, however, they can make some improvements by firstly making the app available on google play store and android.

Virtual sports

Really good, it’s really good considering its not exactly a high demanded market and that the site was only launched 2 years ago. They only offer football, horses (Flat racing) and greyhounds, whereas other big names sites have up to 7 different virtual sports events. However the graphics for the matches and races are brilliant. One of the best we have seen since Betfair and Bet365 launched there new virtual sports page.

They have football matches, horse races and greyhound races every 3 minutes, with the times of when they are starting along the bottom of the screen and the count down at the top.

Payment technicalities

Reasonably, they accept the majority of common payments types such as Debit card, Skrill, Trustly, Boku and pay pal. However all of these have different minimum deposit amounts and withdraw amounts, so be sure to check out the sites FAQs for this type of information.

Regarding time periods for transactions to go through, a deposit is pretty much immediately after is has been confirmed by the site and payment provider. It says on the site that they aim to process withdrawals within 48 hours, and it takes 3-5 days to reach your account. It’s important to note that you can only withdraw your funds using the same payment method you did to deposit.

When making a withdraw your account will also need to be fully verified. They will most likely ask for documents to prove your identity such as a Government issued ID or passport and your address will need to be confirmed via sending in a copy of a utility bill.

Customer support and its features

They have 3 methods of attempting to help you out with any question or query you may have. The first one, as it’s the most convenient for them, is the FAQ’s page. It states on the site to read through and see if your answer to your question can be found there before attempting to contact them.

If this doesn’t work, then they have the standard Live chat room and Email options for customer support. Unexpectedly they do not have a phone number that you can contact or ring which is slightly annoying, however rim sure this is something they will look into. They claim that the live chat is from 12o’clock until 10pm 7 days a week, however when we tried to use it, it told us to write a message and that they will contact us via email. You can however send an email, which they claim will be read and responded to within 48 hours, which is a fairly average time period.

Reliability and security

Very clearly at the bottom of the page, Sportnation shows of its UK gambling commission license proudly, stating they are authorized regulated by them and operated by Argyll Entertainment.

Interestingly enough, they also, very boldly, show links and images to Whenthefunstopsstop, Gamstop and begambleaware, which are sites for those who require information or help and assistance towards a gambling addiction.

Its not as popular as the sports section of the site, as you may be able to imagine, however they have the basics for a decent casino. The rewards programme that we discussed previously for the sports bets, also applies here. You are rewarded via a loyalty programme for every spin you make or bet that’s place din the casino.

Now, they have a live casino too, which offers the usual live dealers in roulette, baccarat, blackjack and many more. This seems very realistic and the layout is great.

The main casino offers some table games like blackjack and poker, which is popular, but not as much so as the slots. They have all the usual slot games which appear on pretty much every site, including some jackpot slots which have less chance of paying out, but they pay out much more in cash.

As a whole, Sportnation has done itself proud of the last couple of years picking up a decent customer base while being backed up by titans in Argyll Entertainment. Furthermore, they have created a nice platform with good information and easy to find bets. They have some improvements to make in terms of layouts and design elements, however we predict that this sight will be updated very soon.
