Ebor Festival Betting Tips Today
The Sky Bet Ebor Festival promises to produce some great flat racing, including four Group 1 races over the course of the four days. Our experts are monitoring the flat racing season to pick out our Ebor Festival tips and give you a rundown of the standout York Ebor tips for each day.
Ebor Festival Day 1 Tips – Juddmonte International Day
The Group 1 Juddmonte International is the highlight of day one. It is the richest race of the season at York Racecourse and was ranked as The Longines World's Best Horse Race in 2024, 2020, and 2012 by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities. We will bring you our thoughts on this race and others from day one, including the Great Voltigeur Stakes and the Acomb Stakes when the odds are released.
Ebor Festival Day 2 Tips – Yorkshire Oaks/Ladies Day
As well as being the festival’s social highlight, Ladies Day at the York Ebor Festival hosts one of the highest quality mares and fillies’ races in Europe, the Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks. Another standout race is the Lowther Stakes, and we’ll bring you our tips on these and the other races from day two when the odds are released.
Ebor Stakes Day 3 Tips – Coolmore Nunthorpe Day
Day three sees the speed merchants come out in the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe. This race is regularly ranked as the premier 1000m sprint in the world. Other highlights include the Strensall Stakes and the Gimcrack Stakes. We’ll bring you our Ebor Festival Friday tips on these and the other races from the third day of the festival when the odds are released.
Ebor Festival Day 4 Tips – Sky Bet Ebor Day
The fourth and final day of the festival sees the Sky Bet City of York Stakes, recently upgraded to a Group 1. We fancy Scenic in this one. Trained by Ed Walker, the five-year-old filly has already tasted success at York this year with a win in the William Hill Bronte Cup Fillies Stakes. Likely to be ridden by Saffie Osborne, we think she will take the honours in August’s Knavesmire showpiece. Al Qareem, currently priced at 12/1, is another one to watch, and the K. R. Burke trained Gelding is a good each-way pick.
Day four also includes the Ebor Handicap. The most lucrative handicap race in Europe, we will bring you our tips for this race and news on any other horses that catch our eye once the odds are available.
How We Select Our Ebor Festival Tips
When it comes to York Ebor Festival tips, we put in the hard yards, conduct plenty of research, and monitor the flat season closely so we can make data-driven picks. We have identified several important factors which we use when studying the form to help you make informed decisions when making your selections.
Age needs to be considered in horse racing. Racehorses often hit their peak years when they are four and five. However, some races seem to suit horses who are younger or older than this. For example, in the seven-furlong City of York Stakes four of the last five winners were five or older, including a seven-year-old. While four from the last 10 winners of the International Stakes have been three-year-olds.
The Sky Bet Ebor Festival is a top-quality horse racing meeting, which includes four Group 1 races. Top-level experience can be valuable in these races. Six of the last 12 winners of the City of York Stakes had at least one win in a Group 1-3 race. While in the International Stakes 11 from the previous 12 winners had won at least one previous Group 1 race will all of those 12 had won at least twice in Group 1-3 races.
The races at the York Ebor Festival vary in distance. There is a blast out over 1006m in the Nunthorpe, where the winning time is highly likely to be well inside 60 seconds, while the International Stakes is over twice the length. Look at the how long each race is, see how horses have performed over that distance, and decide whether they have the legs to get up with the pace in a shorter race or the staying power in a longer one.
Look carefully at how a horse has been performing recently. Wins and consistent places must be considered. Remember though that the Ebor Festival is towards the back end of the season. A horse that has been racing well since the start of the season might not hold on to peak form. Look for a horse that has started steadily and is hitting form in the build-up to the race. With the feature races, it is more likely trainers will be targeting them rather than using them as preparation for another event.
For feature races, look at horses that have not raced frequently but have been brought out for the big events and produced a good performance.
Weather, especially rain, can affect the going on the course. Horses who can adapt to the different going on a fast course and a heavy one are more likely to run to expectations whatever the British summer’s less than predictable climate produces. Likewise, some horses need to set off quickly and hang on to perform well, while others need to stay off the pace and come through. Look for horses who can adjust to different situations and win in different styles.
Weather conditions can be a huge factor in horse racing. Some horses perform well in warmer temperatures but struggle to get going if the weather is cooler. Others seem comfortable in cold weather and can still get up to the front quickly but seem to wilt in the heat. Rain can make the course either slippery or heavy, and some horses cope better than others when this happens.
Ebor Festival Jockey & Trainer Stats
Researching trainer and jockey form is an important consideration when betting on horse racing. Just like studying the form of the horses, reviewing successful trainer/jockey combinations and the form of individual trainers and jockeys is vital when developing a betting strategy.
Training a racehorse and getting it into peak condition for the target races is about developing a system that works, including nutrition, schedule, facilities, and recovery. Jockeys are a key part of this, and the most successful trainers work with jockeys who can get the best out of their horses.
We’ve gathered the top-performing trainers and jockeys from the UK flat racing season to date to help with your research.

Ebor Festival Racecourse Tips
York Racecourse is situated in the south-west of the city on an area of land called the Knavesmire. It is considered to be one of the top racecourses in the UK.
The course at York is left-handed, predominantly flat, with very few undulations. It has a long run-in, long straights, and sweeping turns, meaning that horses with good leg speed and those with long strides tend to prosper. This is especially true in races over five and six furlongs, which are run on a completely flat and straight section.
It is considered to be a fair course which horses of many different styles are able to adapt to. The going can become heavier after a lot of rain, which is a great leveller for strong, durable horses when pitted against speed merchants. The track is wide, meaning there is lots of room and less chance of horses being clipped or cut up.
York is not a great course for front runners. The long exposed straight sections make it hard to get up there, get a gap, and hold it. So, horses who are comfortable sitting just off the leader or sitting right off the pace and then coming through could be more likely to perform well.

Most Popular Ebor Betting Markets
York Racecourse plays host to one of the most prestigious flat racing festivals of the late season in the UK. There is a huge amount of interest and a whole host of betting opportunities. We have highlighted the most popular markets.
A winner bet is simply a bet on who you think will win the race. Remember that you will only get your money if your horse is first past the post, regardless of how well it runs. If your horse doesn’t win there is no payout on this type of wager.
An each-way bet comes in two parts. The first part of is a bet on your pick to win and the second part is a place bet on your horse to finish in the places. This would normally mean ¼ of the odds for a horse to finish in the top three, depending on how many are in the field. There may sometimes be extra places on offer at the York Ebor Festival. Furthermore, bookmakers will often run promotions offering extra places for each-way bets at big festivals so keep your eyes peeled. If your research tells you that a horse is likely to run well but they are up against strong competition who are also suited to the course and distance, then an each-way bet might be the best option.
Forecast bets are where you select two horses to come 1st and 2nd, in this exact order. The amount that the forecast pays out is announced after the race. A reverse forecast, where you predict the first two horses but, in any order, will have shorter odds. Tricast bets work in the same way. The difference is that you must place three horses rather than two. This, clearly, is more difficult to predict, so you will get longer odds. A combination tricast allows you to win if your horses finish in the first three, in any order, but your bet must be multiplied by six.
A placepot is where you pick a horse that will place in several races, usually six, in a nominated meeting.
A double is where you pick horses in two different races and bet on them to win. If both horses win, your bet is successful, but if one or both lose, your wager fails.
This is where you bet on a few horses to win across different races. You can often get long odds on this type of wager, but it is difficult to get right. Some bookies offer acca boosts or insurance, where a free bet is awarded if one selection brings down your entire acca.

Anything before race day is classed as ante-post. An ante-post bet on the Ebor Festival is when you wager before the course betting markets open.
