Cricket Betting Tips & Predictions

England will be without their star player Ben Stokes who will miss this summer’s Test series with India as he takes an indefinite break from cricket starting with immediate effect. His absence, while entirely understandable, definitely impacts our think ahead of this five match series. It means that England will be without their best player, who had been appearing in the recently launched The Hundred league, which definitely helps India’s chances.

Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes will both be missing for the Three Lions as well, but Ollie Robinson is back from suspension and Craig Overton, Jonny Bairstow and Haseeb Hameed are all back in the squad. For India, Washington Sundar, Avesh Khan and Shubman Gill all have injuries which will keep them from performing but do have Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant back from a hamstring injury and Covid 19 respectively.

England remain favourites for the series, but the probability is far less without their talisman just as it is without Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali. Even with home advantage their task is unhelpfully big against a side that won 3-1 the last time they went toe to toe last winter. India were losing finalists in the ICC Test Championship final back in June and will come to the UK in good faith.

The series will begin a massive six months for English cricket who have the Twenty Twenty World cup in Abu Dhabi to think about prior to the next Ashes series in Australia over the European winter. But for now, it’s all about the red ball team and kicking off the next few months with a successful start.

They started well enough in the reverse fixture in India last year winning the first Test that followed a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka. From there though they tanked, and India took the next three test matches to take the series 3-1.

The two nations are hard to split at the bookies, but the visitors are just about slightly shorter in the betting to repeat their winter victory. Here in the UK, we look very much set for a rainy week which suggests rain delays are likely and if that is the case then a draw would look like a definite possibility. Don’t rule out an away win though as England’s missing players put a lot of responsibility on the likes of Jimmy Anderson and skipper Joe Root. Both are capable of saving the series for the home side, but it is a massive ask.

Cricket betting is big business, especially where the England – India Test series is concerned, which is played for the Pataudi Trophy. The 2021 Indian tour of England will last for more than a month, since cricket test matches can last for five days and the Test series can typically last for five test matches. Anyone who understands sporting variables will tell you that a month is a very long time in sports, which means betting on cricket matches between the two countries will remain fresh and fun.

England vs India Test Series Outright Winner

One of the most uncomplicated wagers you can make on the 2021 Test series is to bet on the series winner. Be careful, though, because if the series is tied, the team currently in possession of the Pataudi trophy will retain it.

With a series winner bet, punters need to select which team will be victorious after all five tests have been completed. There is nothing technical about this wager; if you pick either of the countries to win and that is what happens, you'll have a winning bet to collect on.

Over/Under Score

Another way to approach cricket betting is to wager on cricket's equivalent of the Over/Under (or over-under) wager that was popularised in other games. A total score, either for a match or a series, is posted by the online bookmaker, and the punter must decide if they think the bookie has it right or wrong. The relevant final score will be over or under that line. As with following the best betting tips, previous head-to-head results might give you an idea of whether this is likely to be a high-scoring affair or a low one. Final Series Score Betting

Another way for punters to bet on a cricket series is to place a wager on what they think the final score might be. You can bet on the final score of the series in its entirety, or on the five individual test matches. Individual test match score betting is tough, and usually means you'd have to predict the amount of runs that will be scored in a test match, or even one single event. Betting on the England vs India series would mean betting on the matches. So, for example, if England wins three tests and India wins two, then a bet on a 3-2 win for England would successfully generate a payout.

Odd/Even Run Amount Betting

This is a straight-up punt that can really only go one of two ways. No pre-wager preparation can inform a bet like this; it's just a matter of luck. You simply have to decide if a team’s innings score will result in a number that is either an odd number or an even number. For the purposes of this bet, zero is considered to be an even number; having said that, the likelihood of an entire team scoring zero runs is highly unlikely, and will almost definitely not be the case in an England vs India test match.

Like most test cricket tours, the Test series between England and India is made up of five test matches, with each one scheduled to last for five days. During each of these test days, both teams will play an innings, in which they defend the stumps while the other team bowls. After both teams have batted twice, two aggregate scores will have been accumulated, and the team that posted the most runs is the winner of that test. After five of these tests, a winner of the series will most likely have been found, but these can sometimes be drawn. This makes test cricket a much longer form of the game than One Day Internationals (ODIs) or Twenty Twenty (T20) cricket.

There is also the chance that one team – the first or second to bat – is particularly dominant in their first innings, and they can enforce a follow-on. A follow-on in cricket occurs when the second team to bat posts a score that does not surpass the score of the first team that batted. In such a case, the team who batted first, and whose first innings score hasn’t been bettered, can make the second team bat their second innings immediately after their first innings. This makes things easier for the leading team and reduces the chances of the test resulting in a tie.

Cricket was introduced to India by the British, where it eventually became a national obsession. The first match to take place in India happened in 1721, between a group of sailors. Fast-forward two centuries and India was granted Test match status in 1932, joining the likes of England, Australia, South Africa, the West Indies, and New Zealand, but not Pakistan, who gained their Test status in 1952.

With their new status, India made their first Test tour of England in 1932, opening up at Lords with 24,000 in attendance, including the reigning British monarch at the time, George VI, also the Emperor of India at the time. While India beat England at home in 1952, they had to wait until 1971 to record their first test series win on English soil.

The Pataudi Trophy

In 2007, the Pataudi Trophy was introduced as the prize for the winning team of a Test cricket series contested between England and India and hosted in England. It was originally introduced to commemorate 75 years since the first Test match was held between the two sides in 1932. The Pataudi Trophy takes its name from cricketing father and son Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, who actually played international cricket for both England and India, and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, India’s cricket captain during the 1960s and 1970s. India were the first team to lift the newly introduced Pataudi Trophy. Regarding Test series played in India, the Anthony de Mello Trophy is the prize played for.
