Manchester United v FC Astana Betting Preview, Odds & Tips

United really have some results to start producing under Ole, or his job could come under some serious threat. He has actually only won 4 of his last 14 Premier League games, and even after the terrific comeback against PSG in Europe last season, reality soon hit. Youngster James has been a shining light for the Reds this season, and it’s a wonder where any positivity would have come from without his impressive goals.
FC Astana were quite unlucky last season, they came 3rd in their group but was only pipped out by 1 point from French side Rennes. They will be looking to go one step further this season and make it into the knockout stages. Astana’s domestic campaign is coming to a close, with only 7 game weeks left. Astana however sit in the driving seat as despite being 3rd they have the games in hand which should they win, would put them top of the League.
With all being said though you would expect United to ease to victory in this group, and probably do so while remaining unbeaten. The other two competitors come in the form of Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and Serbian’s Partizan Belgrade. Alkmaar would be the most likely here to cause United problems, however it is hard to see how their quality doesn’t shine through.
United have a real injury problem starting to occur so early on in this season. The likes of Bailly, Fosu-Mensah, Martial, Pogba and Shaw all missed Saturday’s games and it would be a surprise to see any of them return for this. The only players likely to return would be Dalot and Lingard.
Potential Manchester United Starting XI: Romero, Wan Bissaka, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Young, Fred, Matic, Chong, Greenwood, James, Rashford
Potential FC Astana Starting XI: Eric, Rukavina, Postnikov, Simunovic, Shomko, Tomasov, Logvinenko, Meavskiy, Sigurjonsson, Rotariu, Murtazayev
Head To Head
- The two sides have never met before.
Key Stats & Facts
- United have been leading at halftime in 4 of their 5 games this season.
- FC Astana have only won 1 of 4 away qualifying European games this season, and that came against a very poor Maltese side in Valletta which they defeated 9-1 on aggregate.
- United have won 4 penalties in 5 games so far in this seasons PL campaign.
- Manchester United 1/5
- Draw 13/2
- FC Astana 10/1
The outrights are very difficult to find any value with in this game, given United are a 1/5 shot there is no realistic bet to even get a value close to even money worth backing. Because of this I’ve opted to go into the goalscroer market. Looking for value in this market was slightly easier, and one person who stood out to me at the price on offer was Chong. He has featured very little this season which makes this bet abit riskier, hence the price. But Chong has been on the fringe of the first team for the full season so far, and I think Solskjaer decision to give him 25 minutes at the weekend was partly due to getting the minutes under his belt so he would be ready for this game.
He did make his debut in this competition last season in United’s thriller against PSG but has since featured. While being on the bench for United this season it means he hasn’t really had any game time with the youth set up either, however the one game he did play in for the U23’s he scored a brace. Chong will believe he has a lot to prove, and with the regular mix-up of United’s squad its clear to see Ole hasn’t found his favorable 11 yet.
The other bet I do like is one that’s landed in 4 of United’s first 5 games so far this season, and that’s for the Red Devils to be leading by the 30 minute mark. The only side they have failed to do this against was Palace remarkably, however managed this feat against sides such as Wolves. Chelsea and most recently Leicester. Astana clearly aren’t a push over, given they have made it through the qualification, but United’s quality should show through, and with a lot of players desperate to make their mark I expect United to come out of the blocks like a bullet.
