West Ham host Burnley this weekend on the back of a winless October, and The Hammers know that three points against fellow languishers Burnley would further distance themselves from those teams in and around the relegation zone.
Burnley come into this game without scoring in their last two games whilst conceding nine goals in the process. Admittedly, they played two of the best teams in the league in Manchester City and Chelsea, but Sean Dyche’s men will be low in confidence, and he knows a point here would be a good result.
Both teams have the quality to ensure they stay in the Premier League this season, but I imagine both sets of fans would look at this season as a disappointment thus far, especially West Ham with the investment in players they received over the summer transfer window. These games are must win for both teams, as they chase what was a realistic target at the start of the season, European football.
West Ham’s injury woes continued against Spurs a few weeks back when marquee signing Andriy Yarmolenko ruptured a ligament, leaving him out for up to 6 months. The injury list at West Ham is ever growing and manager Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping for a change of fortune soon.
- Andriy Yarmolenko, Andy Carroll, Jack Wilshere, Manuel Lanzini, Winston Reid, and Carlos Sanchez are all missing through injury for West Ham, whilst Mark Noble is still suspended.
- Burnley are without Stephen Ward, whilst Jack Cork is touch and go.
Potential West Ham Starting XI: Fabianski; Zabaleta, Balbuena, Diop, Masuaku; Diangana, Obiang, Rice, Anderson; Snodgrass; Arnautovic
Potential Burnley Starting XI: Hart; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Defour, Cork, Brady; Hendrick; Vokes
Head To Head
- Burnley won the last encounter between the two sides 3-0.
- That defeat was the first time in eight games The Hammers had lost to Burnley.
Key Stats & Facts
- There have been under 2.5 goals in West Ham’s last 3 Premier League Games.
- Burnley have only won once away from home this season.
- West Ham 4/5
- Draw 13/5
- Burnley 17/4
I wouldn’t be shocked if this game ended in a draw, even though West Ham are the favourites. I imagine it will be a low scoring affair where the first goal could really set the pace of the game, and if Burnley concede early, their heads could drop fast.
