Cambridgeshire Meeting Betting Odds 2026
The ante-post picture is starting to take shape at Newmarket, although we’re still waiting for the Cambridgeshire Handicap odds themselves. Nominations are already in for the four major juvenile races, with the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes for two-year-old colts the headline act, and we do have early prices to get stuck into there.
I’ll be comparing those with our best horse racing betting sites, looking for any youngsters the market might have underestimated before plans become set in stone.
That’s always the attraction of ante-post betting. Getting involved before final declarations can land you a much bigger price, but there’s a trade-off: if your horse doesn’t turn up, your money will normally disappear with it. Early value is lovely, backing something that spends race day tucked up in its stable rather less so.
Best Offers for Cambridgeshire Betting
The Cambridgeshire Meeting odds are only one place to find a bit of extra value, with price boosts and racing specials likely to appear as one of Newmarket’s major fixtures gets closer. I’ll also be watching for enhanced multiples, particularly on Lucky 31’s, which give us five selections and plenty of ways to get something back without needing to perform the minor miracle of finding five winners.
Cambridgeshire Meeting Betting Tips 2026
My early Cambridgeshire horse racing tips are focused mainly on the big juvenile races, where we already have entries and some useful form to work with. There’s still plenty of racing to come before we get back on the Rowley Mile, though, and with autumn creeping closer, the ground could look very different by the time this fixture arrives. I’ll be keeping one eye on the form and the other firmly on the weather forecast.
Cambridgeshire Meeting Betting Odds – Middle Park Stakes
Cambridgeshire Meeting odds are starting to trickle in now, firstly for the Middle Park Stakes, one of the season’s premier juvenile events. The two-year-old colts will go hell for leather in this race over six furlongs of the Rowley Mile course, with the winner earning quotes for next year’s 2000 Guineas and Commonwealth Cup.
Orthodox, impressive on his first two starts, heads the betting at 7/2 for trainer Clive Cox, along with Aidan O’Brien’s Great Barrier Reef. Man’s Best Friend, also for the O’Brien team, isn’t far behind at 4/1, but Charlie Appleby and Godolphin’s Inner City Blues is the real head-scratcher.
He is as big as 6/1 in places, but as short as 5/2 favourite in others. A lot depends on where he goes before Newmarket, and whether he can win there. He offers a chance with some of our best online bookies who support exchange betting, for you to trade him at wildly different prices.
Turn a Big Price Difference to Your Advantage
If a horse is 6/1 with one bookmaker but only 5/2 elsewhere, there could be a trading opportunity. Back £100 at 6/1, then lay £200 at 5/2 (3.50) on an exchange and, ignoring commission, you've locked in £100 profit either way.
Alternatively, lay just £100 at 5/2 and you've effectively got a free bet: break even if the horse loses, or make £350 if it wins.

Cambridgeshire Meeting Day 2 Tips [Friday] – Cambridgeshire Friday
The Rockfel Stakes is the only Friday race with entries at this point, but there’s plenty to chew over already. This seven-furlong contest for two-year-old fillies is an important one, not least because we could be watching contenders for next season’s 1000 Guineas.
There are 63 initial entries, so good luck to the bookies sorting out the early Cambridgeshire Meeting betting odds for that little lot.
Two names I’ll be following closely are Musical Times, trained by Charlie Appleby, and John & Thady Gosden’s Spirited Gesture. Both made outstanding winning debuts and are clearly held in high regard, with each also entered in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile later in the season.
There’s plenty of water to go under the bridge before this meeting, but I’m particularly interested to see where their trainers send them next. If either arrives at the Rockfel with that reputation intact, they could take some stopping.
Cambridgeshire Meeting Day 3 Tips [Saturday] – Cambridgeshire Saturday
Saturday is where the juvenile action really goes up a notch, with early entries already in for the Middle Park Stakes, Cheveley Park Stakes and the Royal Lodge. Between them, we could be looking at some of next season’s Classic contenders.
The six-furlong Group 1 Middle Park is particularly fascinating because these youngsters could head in very different directions afterwards. Some will remain sprinters, others may stretch out to seven furlongs for the Dewhurst, while a few could eventually find themselves tackling a mile in next spring’s 2000 Guineas.
Orthodox has impressed me, although I do wonder whether he might ultimately prove a proper five-furlong speedball. Man’s Best Friend and Great Barrier Reef bring valuable experience, but the one I really want to see is Inner City Blues. Charlie Appleby’s colt looks a bit special and, being by Blue Point, sticking at six furlongs for now makes plenty of sense. He packs a serious punch.
The Cheveley Park is effectively the fillies’ equivalent, another Group 1 over six furlongs. Plenty of attention will understandably fall on Sun Goddess, but Wild Blossom could be the value play. The Wathnan Racing filly looks smart to me, and stepping up to six furlongs should bring further improvement.
Then there’s the mile-long Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes, where the crystal ball comes out. This can produce future Guineas horses, but also youngsters who will eventually want middle distances – perhaps even a crack at the Derby.
One particularly intriguing entry is the unraced Gosden colt Algaihabane. He’ll obviously need to get onto a racecourse first, but if John and Thady Gosden can give him a run in the coming weeks, the Royal Lodge could still come into the equation.
Of those we’ve already seen, Nola Soul has the pedigree to appreciate a mile and plenty of class to go with it. Quest For Stars, meanwhile, is seriously tough, and this sort of test at Newmarket should be right up his street. The Cambridgeshire is exactly the sort of race in which I’m prepared to give trends a little more attention. It’s a huge-field handicap and hardly a race to attack with one simple rule, but the last 10 winners can still give us some useful clues about the type of horse we should be hunting for.
I’ll be digging into age, ratings, draw, starting price, and previous form to see which patterns actually stand up to scrutiny. Recent winners have certainly shown that big prices are no barrier to success, which is worth remembering before automatically gravitating towards the favourites.
These numbers won’t dictate my Cambridgeshire tips, but they may help shape them. They’ll certainly be factors the bookmakers consider when compiling the early Cambridgeshire Handicap odds.

Key Facts About Cambridgeshire Handicap
First things first, official rating matters far more to me than the actual weight carried. What I want to know is whether a horse is well handicapped. The old-fashioned idea that horses simply can’t win under big weights is nonsense, we’re talking about an animal weighing around 500kg, so the difference between carrying 8st 5lb and 9st 10lb is hardly going to make its knees buckle.
The market doesn’t provide an obvious shortcut either. We need to consider where each winner actually sat in the betting rather than just their SP, and we’ve had two 40/1 winners who were joint-19th in the market. Some trend! Ultimately, finding the best-handicapped horse remains the name of the game.
Winning ratings underline that point. Across these 10 renewals, we’ve had a winner rated just 86, three in the 90s and others right up to 109. There’s no neat ratings bracket to cling to.
The draw was traditionally more interesting, although even that picture has become muddier. Karl Burke trained the winners in both 2024 and 2025 from positions that went against the previous pattern. Are those anomalies, or has something genuinely changed?
Newmarket has done plenty of work to create a more level playing field and reduce significant draw biases, so I’m reluctant to rely heavily on that angle either.
There is, however, one useful crumb. Nine of the last 10 winners finished in the first six on their previous start, with the sole exception being a 40/1 outsider. Seven had also finished in the first three on at least one of their previous two runs.
Finally, something we can potentially work with.
Understanding the Rowley Mile
Newmarket, or HQ, as we know it in racing, actually has two racecourses. The Rowley Mile and July Course share some ground before heading their separate ways, and form on one doesn't automatically translate to the other.
The Rowley Mile is a wide, galloping track with Britain's longest straight and a deceptively demanding uphill finish. Horses also descend into the famous Dip, where big, long-striding types can become unbalanced before climbing again towards the line.
For the Cambridgeshire, that makes balance, stamina and timing particularly important. Go for home too soon and that final climb can find you out very quickly. The chalk base can produce lively ground, while a headwind makes getting cover especially valuable. Draw biases have existed in big fields, but they're not something I'm prepared to treat as gospel nowadays.
Top Cambridgeshire Meeting Jockeys & Trainers
The Cambridgeshire itself can go just about anywhere – Yorkshire, Newmarket, Berkshire or beyond. It’s a huge handicap with far too many moving parts to pin down to one dominant yard or base.
Instead, I’m more interested in who consistently delivers across the important Group races, as well as the maidens and novices where we might be seeing next season’s stars for the first time. Looking at past performances and recent star performers, I can see who’s best at this meeting, and who may be underestimated in the Cambridgeshire Meeting betting odds.

No surprises about the top two! Despite being number one to Aidan O’Brien, a good chunk of Moore’s undoubted upcoming Cambridgeshire Meeting winners will come from outside rides. He’s in great demand.
William Buick is Charlie Appleby’s main man, but again, he will catch rides for Andrew Balding and other powerful yards. Nobody rides Newmarket quite like Buick.
Keep in mind that another top Newmarket rider, James Doyle, is now the leading jockey for Wathnan Racing and will have plenty of firepower. Also, Billy Loughnane only landed his first Cambridgeshire Meeting winners in 2025 and is now odds-on to be champion jockey ahead of Oisin Murphy.
Recent Cambridgeshire Meeting Highlights
This is one of many horse racing meetings in Britain to consistently produce great performances, joy, heartache and “wow” moments. Here are just a handful from recent times:
In the 2017 Royal Lodge, many remarked on the battling qualities shown by narrow winner Roaring Lion. He went on to become the sport’s latest ‘Iron Horse’, having an amazing three-year-old career which landed him numerous Group 1 wins.
John Gosden has trained hundreds of Group 1 horses. He knew he had a good one in Lord North, so his presence in the Cambridgeshire Handicap meant he had a very well-treated animal at the weights. The money went down heavily, and Lord North and Frankie Dettori did the rest in the shadow of the post.
Having won the fastest 2000 Guineas ever on this track in June, Kameko returned to break the one-mile track record on this course when taking the Joel Stakes. 2019 winner Benbatl was back in third, but he’d return to have something to say about it the following year.
The brilliant globetrotter Benbatl returned to the Rowley Mile for a third crack at the Joel Stakes and came away with a new track record. It really takes something special to set records at the home of horse racing.
Charlie Appleby and William Buick have such an outstanding record here, and their Shadow Of Light was mind-blowing in the Middle Park. He would achieve a rare feat by returning only two weeks later, and successfully stepping up in trip to land the Middle Park–Dewhurst double before finishing placed in the 2000 Guineas in May.
Just a year after winning the Middle Park with Shadow Of Light, the same team scored again with Wise Approach. This time, the favourite was hampered and stumbled badly after the start, but William Buick somehow recovered, stayed on board, and steered his colt to victory.
