The Travelers Championship is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour and is held each June at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, USA. The 2020 edition of the tournament will take place from the 25th-28th June.
TPC River Highlands is a par 70 course, set over 6,841 yards. River Highlands is a nice, mid-scoring, tree-lined course where making birdies and putting well is critical. True, the same could be said of any golf course, but the TPC can be particularly unforgiving in the face of mistakes. The TPC also tends to favour long hitters such as Bubba Watson, who has won this event three times in recent history.

Travelers Championship 2020 Betting Tips & Predictions
TPC River Highlands is a par 70, 6,841 yards course that is attackable and allows for players of all styles to believe that they are in with a chance. Defending champion Bubba Watson, who has won here three times in total, will, as ever, be one to watch, even if Rory McIlroy is likely to go off as favourite when the odds are announced.
Since a redevelop in 2015, River Highlands has seen significant changes that has overseen the removal of 50 bunkers, and the ones left behind upgraded and relocated to create narrow fairway corridors which has made it an unforgiving green. To that end, minimising mistakes is critical and big hitters are favoured.
How quickly fortunes can change. Last week, Webb Simpson missed the cut at The Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. This week, Webb bounced back spectacularly with a victory at the RBC Heritage. When looking forward to the upcoming Travellers Championship, it is worth remembering that the Harbour Town Golf Links Colonial, where Simpson recorded his -22 winning total, plays similarly to TPC River Highlands where this week’s action is taking place. Simpson fans can pick up their man for around 20/1.
If history is more your thing then look no further than Bubba Watson three times winner of the Travellers. As ever, world number one Rory McIlroy is the favourite but it has to be said that the Northern Irishman hasn’t had the best of season restarts. McIlroy has had good days and bad days but hasn’t really threatened the top of the leaderboard just yet. Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau are the next in line in the betting, while the form of Jon Rahm has greatly dropped off of late. With betting odds of around 20/1, Brook Koepka should pick up some interest also.
The Travelers Championship Betting – Popular Bets
Few, if any, sports are better for betting than golf. With huge fields – there will be a field of 156 for the Travelers Championship – golf can be the ultimate game in which to extract value. Even the pre-tournament favourite can be given long odds. Furthermore, there are tons of betting options available to golf bettors like the examples we have listed below.
Golfing six shooter bets come about when the bookmaker selects six golfers from the field before letting them theoretically compete against each other. The golfers are not required to be matched up together in the tournament, but merely competing in the same event. In order for your bet to return as a winner, you must correctly pick the golfer that emerges victorious from the six on offer. This means that they must finish with the lowest below par score, which would in turn mean that they finish higher up the leaderboard. Think of it like a mini-league that these players are competing in and forget, for the sake of this bet at least, the wider tourney, remembering that you might, in some cases, have the opportunity to cash out early.
Top Nationality Betting
Top nationality betting means to pick the nation that the tournament winner hails from. Below we have listed the former winners of the Travelers Championship since the year 2000 and it shows us that over that period of time, only on three occasions has a non-American won this event. Because of this record, you can expect the American nationality to head up the betting before most tournaments get underway.
Golf Match Betting
With golf, many online bookmakers will offer matched betting markets where bettors need to pick the winner of a matchup between two players. As above, for the purpose of this bet, we can forget about the actual tournament. The two golfers in the bet need to outscore each other over the course of the tournament or round and the winner is the golfer that finishes with the lowest score. You can also back this bet, which can be laid over 18 holes, 36 holes, 54 holes or 72 holes, as a draw. If you cannot see this betting opportunity, you can always request it.
A Hole-in-on is one the most common golf terms and should definitely be considered when betting on the Travelers Championship. This is a proposition bet (prop bet) where a golfer needs to get the ball into the hole straight from their first shot off the tee. Holes-in-one are rare so the odds are long but rewarding. There is little we can do to predict when one will occur; it is more a case of putting down a bit of money and hoping that we get lucky. That’s how prop bets work. The hole-in-one can be scored by anyone at any time over the course of a tournament. In truth, it’s far more likely that there will be no hole-in-one score, and you can bet on that too.
Tournament Structure For The Travelers Championship
The Travelers Championship is a four day, 72 hole, stroke play based golf tournament that runs from Thursday through Sunday in late June. Each day brings a new 18 hole round of golf, which will all take place at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, USA. At the end of day two, after 36 holes of play, the field will be cut considerably when those players performing poorly are removed from the competition. At the end of Sunday’s final day, the golfer with the highest below par score will be the winner. Should there be a tied score by the end of play Sunday, then a sudden death three hole playoff will be held.
History of The Travelers Championship
The Travelers Championship was founded in 1952. While it has taken on many names over its existence, it takes its current title from The Travelers Companies who took over sponsorship in 2007. The tournament’s name isn’t the only thing that has changed since its inception – the venue is also different.
For 30 years, the event was held at the Wethersfield Country Club but, in 1984, the PGA Tour purchased the Edgewood Country Club, and the event relocated to its current home. In 1991, the course was thoroughly redesigned, and with the redesign came a new name: the TPC at River Highlands.
The 2016 tournament was played in August because it clashed with the Summer Olympics in Brazil, but returned to its normal spot in late June a year later. In 2017 and 2018, the Travelers Championship was awarded the Players Choice Award after winning a vote by PGA Tour members for its services, hospitality, attendance as well as the quality of the course.
As of 2020, the championships have been part of the Open Qualifying Series providing up to two spots in the Open Championship for the top two non-exempt finishers in the top 8.
