Formula 1 is back for a new season with one question on everyone’s lips, who can stop Lewis Hamilton winning a sixth world title?

This year sees plenty of changes in the rules and the driver line-ups with only eight of the 20 seats on the grid retaining the same owner as in 2018.

There’s a big variety also between key drivers changing teams, like Charles Leclerc to Ferrari, Daniel Ricciardo to Renault and Kimi Raikkonen to Alfa Romeo to name just three.

Rookies, with Alexander Albon, Lando Norris and George Russell stepping up from F2 and returning drivers in Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso and Robert Kubica at Williams.

2019 will again consist of 21 races starting in Australia on March 17 and ending in Abu Dhabi on December 1, with highlight stops including Monaco, Silverstone, Spa and Singapore along the way.

In recent years, the grid has become increasingly split with three teams at the front, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, with the remaining seven battling it out in the ‘midfield’.

Based on pre-season testing, that gap appears likely to remain again but the level of competitiveness is increasing and that in turn brings plenty of betting opportunities for you to consider.

The Verdict

You’ve seen the four recommended bets for 2019, now here’s why:

Lewis Hamilton to win the Drivers’ Championship is possibly a bet that you’ll want to wait on before placing, but ultimately will likely come good in the end.

Currently, the Briton isn’t looking the strongest with his Mercedes team struggling a little in testing but why I’m sure he’ll come good is clear.

First, he has the full backing of Mercedes and will easily beat teammate Valtteri Bottas, that can’t be said at Ferrari where Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc may well take points off each other.

Then there’s Hamilton’s remarkable consistency which will keep him in the fight allied to his team’s ability to develop their car faster than Ferrari which means, come the second half of the year, he may be perfectly placed to make it to number six.

Ferrari to win the Constructors’ Championship comes from the strength of their driver line-up compared to Mercedes & Red Bull.

While Hamilton may well win the title, it will be a very close fight and the collective total of Leclerc & Vettel should keep them ahead of their rivals in the teams’ standings.

Daniel Ricciardo to win the midfield championship again is based more on consistency than the outright performance of his new Renault car.

The French manufacturer is expected to be part of a very close fight for the fourth best team, but the overtaking ability of Ricciardo and a new lease of life away from Red Bull, should also see him a step above those around him

Charles Leclerc to finish in the championship Top 3 is a bold bet because it means he would have to beat Max Verstappen & Bottas, if Hamilton & Vettel remains the top two.

But the Monegasque has impressed at every opportunity so far and with it unlikely Red Bull will move ahead of Ferrari and my expectation he’ll be ahead of the Finn, I see P3 as the minimum Leclerc will achieve.
