Two of the league’s most out-of-form sides face off this weekend, as Milan travel to Genoa in round seven of Serie A.
Milan have lost three league games in a row and were comfortably beaten by Fiorentina last weekend, 3-1. Genoa are without a win in their last four matches, losing three and drawing one. They were thrashed by Lazio last time out, conceding four in their heaviest defeat of the season so far.
Both sides are struggling at the back, with Genoa shipping nine goals in their last four. As for Milan, they have seen seven goals go past them in their previous three Serie A games.
Both sides are struggling big time for form and confidence but something has to give here. Milan look blunt in attack with just four goals scored all season but Genoa’s defence should give them confidence of finding a way to get the strikers scoring.
Milan will be hoping that Piatek can find his form again, against his old side where he found the net so regularly. Milan will know that this could be a game where they regain their attacking threat, whilst Genoa will also feel they can secure a vital three points.
Davide Biraschi and Edoardo Goldaniga returned to the bench last weekend after injury lay-offs.
Mateo Musacchio is suspended for Milan after being sent-off last week, whilst fellow defender Mattia Caldara is still out with injury. Lucas Paqueta returned to the bench in the defeat to Fiorentina and will continue his return on the bench again here.
Potential Genoa Starting XI: Radu; Romero, Zapata, Criscito; Ghiglione, Schone, Randanovic, Lerager, Pajac; Kouame, Pinamonti
Potential Milan Starting XI: Donnarumma; Calabria, Duarte, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Krunic, Bennacer, Calhanoglu; Suso, Piatek, Leao
Key Stats & Facts
- Genoa have failed to win in 15 of their last 16 Serie A matches.
- Milan have lost their last three league games.
- Genoa have lost three of their last four league games.
- Genoa – 21/10
- Draw – 23/10
- Milan – 17/11
If there was ever a time to stay away from the winners market, it is this one. Milan are about 7/5 and Genoa are 21/10, with the draw at 11/5. The bookies aren’t confident with either and that’s fair, as there is not much to suggest either side can win a football match at the minute.
Goals have to be backed here though. Genoa have conceded nine in their last four and Milan seven in their last three, with over 2.5 goals landing in five of Genoa’s six league games thus far this season. Both teams will fancy their chances of scoring and over 2.5 goals is odds-against at 21/20 with William Hill so that looks good to me.
Another bet I like is Piatek to score anytime at 2/1 with SkyBet. We all know how prolific he was with Genoa and then again with Milan once he made the move in January this year. Piatek scored 13 league goals in the first half of last season before his switch to Milan, where he has since scored 11 goals in 24 appearances for the Rossoneri. If he is to find his goal-scoring form again, it is here and given how poor Genoa have been defensively, you’d expect him to get on the score sheet here. At 2/1 as well, those are really good odds.
