There’s a buzz around the majors this year that’s arguably been missing of late. We’ve got away from the PGA Tour vs LIV debates, and now we’re back talking about the golf, which is how it should be. US Open Betting Tips & Predictions 2025
Golf’s toughest major. At least, that’s what the media will be peddling this week. Oakmont Golf Club is the host, and it’s got teeth bigger than Jaws. This’ll be the tenth time they’ve hosted, which significantly helps with our US Open betting tips for the week, allowing us to see how the course will (likely) set up and what type of player generally goes well here.
So, without further ado, let’s jump right in.
Rory McIlroy to Win the US Open – 10/1 with bet365
A bit of a coin flip between McIlroy and Scheffler, but now that he’s finally put those green-jacket demons to bed by winning The Masters, we’re siding with the Northern Irishman to go back-to-back. And it’s not just his Augusta win that’s sealed the deal. His three victories this year see him ranked 1st in Strokes Gained: Total, and he has finished no worse than tied 17th all season. The shackles are off, and given that he’s 10/1 to Scottie’s 13/5, this looks much better value as he chases a history-making calendar year Grand Slam.
Shane Lowry to Finish Top 5 – 13/2 with bet365
Shane-o has some Oakmont demons to overcome. He had a four-shot lead here, in 2016, before a final-round 76 allowed Dustin Johnson to triumph. Lowry is starting to get a bit of a reputation as a “major monster”. He’s finished top-20 in six of his last eight majors, and has had a decent start to 2025, with ten top 25s from 14 starts. Can he win it? Probably not, but he’s 5th on Tour this season for Strokes Gained: Total, proving how solid his game is right now. He needs the putter to heat up (103rd on Tour), but if he can get a couple rolling early in the week, a top 5 bet at 13/2 looks super solid.
Akshay Bhatia to Finish Top 10 – 9/1 with bet365
What a talent this kid is turning out to be. Bhatia is a real grinder and has already played 15 events in 2025. He’s got three top 10s and made eleven cuts, but what’s impressed us most was a T42 at the Masters. Wait, what? We hear you. But that first day, while playing with Rory and Ludvig, he looked right at home. That would break most players in Bhatia’s shoes, but to shoot two under proves that he’s got what it takes to dine at the top table. His putting is off the charts good, so if he can keep in the short stuff off the tee, he will go well and is our dark horse US Open golf tip.
Additional US Open Betting Insights
We’re not about just giving you our own US Open golf betting tips; we want to provide you with the tools to form bets for yourself. Here we’ve expanded on a few names to keep an eye out for this week at Oakmont Country Club, along with a little more info about the course and the type of players it’ll suit.
Key Golfers to Watch
We’ve covered where the value lies this week in our tips for the US Open, and now we want to expand on a few names to watch. These aren’t necessarily where our money would be heading, but we’d be hard pressed to argue with anyone backing them.
Scottie Scheffler
$5 million banked. Five top 10s from eight starts. Top six in SG: Total, SG, Tee to Green, SG: Off the Tee and SG: Approach. Yet, it’s been an average start to Scheffler for 2025. It was always going to be tough to follow seven wins last season, and he might still get close, but he’s yet to close. However, Scottie’s mediocre weeks are top ten finishes, and he’s got the game to still blow the field away. Like we mentioned with Lowry, if the putter gets hot (or even mildly warm), he’ll probably win. And if it doesn’t, he still won’t be far away.
Bryson DeChambeau
There aren’t many in world golf that split opinions like DeChambeau. Is he genuinely great for the game, or is it all a little OTT? Being British, we side with the latter, but there’s no doubt that, even though he’s playing at LIV, he’s still one of the best in the world. He’s created a bit of a rivalry with Rory, which helps, besting him at the US Open in 2024, but falling away at the Masters. He’s got the game to go back-to-back at Oakmont and only closely missed out on our US Open tips and predictions this year. One to watch.
Justin Thomas
The game of golf is a better place when JT is in form. He dipped to 26th in the world in 2023, but is now back in the top five and playing some of the best golf to date. His win at the RBC Heritage was, incredibly, his first since 2022. His numbers are solid. 4th in SG: Total and top 10s in Tee to Green and Approach. Oakmont should suit his game, and he finished T32 here in 2016. He’ll be around the 25/1 to mark to get the job done, but the value is likely in either each way or to place.
A Deep Dive into Oakmont Country Club: Course Analysis for Punters
The infamous Oakmont Country Club is about to host a record-breaking 10th US Open. It’s testament to the course that the United States Golf Association (USGA) keep coming back here, and it’s one on the rota that we think carves an incredible betting opportunity. To expand on this, we’ve included a few areas in the setup that will be pivotal this week for golf US Open tips.
-
Brutal course layout – At 7,250 yards, it’s not a long course by modern standards. However, it’s a par 70, so it plays longer than the card states, and even though there’s no water, it does have 200 bunkers, including the iconic “church pews” that split the 3rd and 4th holes. With that in mind, accurate players will go well. Anything that misses the fairway means players will be scrambling for pars, so we’re looking at stats like Driving Accuracy and Total Driving. DJ gained 2.4 strokes off the tee for his win in 2016, hammering home our point.
-
Green speed – Oakmont has been dubbed as having the fastest greens in the world. They’re like glass; if it’s hot and dry, they’ll get quicker as the week progresses. You can look at Strokes Gained Putting, but we like to move the needle a little here and look for Proximity to Hole. Basically, how close on average, a player sticks their approach shots to the flag. Lag putting will be incredibly tough, so the closer they get, the better their chance of making a few.
-
Historically difficult course – This is not your standard PGA Tour stroll for these guys. In 2007, the winning score was +5 and in 2016, only four players finished under par. This brings into play mental toughness. Players will make bogeys. But the guys at the top will be the ones who make them and bounce back. Scottie Scheffler leads the PGA Tour in Bogey Avoidance, which will be key for US Open golf betting.
-
Player profiling – Past winners at Oakmont include Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Ernie Els and Dustin Johnson. What do they all have in common? Elite ball strikers and brilliant from tee to green. Your short kings and hit-it-and-find-it players will be in for a long week.
What is the US Open Prize Money?
Prizemoney at the US Open won’t be released until the week of the event, but we’re not expecting to see any changes from 2024, where a purse of $21.5 million was up for grabs.
The money is, of course, incredible, and the winner will take home around $4.3 million, but it’s surpassed by etching your name into history and winning one of golf's four majors. All the best players in the world will be there, but given that this is an “open”, there’ll be a bunch of amateurs and qualifiers who have a chance to change the course of their careers as well.
US Open Free Bets & Promotions
What’s the perfect accompaniment to betting on the US Open golf this week? Free bets provided by some of the best bookmakers, of course, and we’ve a ton of them listed below.

US Open Golf Betting Markets
The majors are the best time to bet on golf. There’s more buzz, more markets to bet on and generally, the coverage way surpasses even signature PGA Tour events. Here’s a look at what you can expect this week at the US Open amongst the best golf betting sites on the planet.
Really simple; bet on the player you think will win the US Open. This bet includes any playoffs that are needed (quite common at this event). Basically, the player who picks up the US Open Championship Trophy at the end of the week.
This is where you bet on the player to lead after the first round. It’s an excellent market for picking out players who start well but can fade away later in the tournament.
Bet on a player to finish within a set number of places. For example, if you bet on Rory McIlroy to finish in the top 5, he must finish fifth or better. The payout is the same regardless of the position, so you don’t get extra if they win, for example.
A cut line comes into play after the second round, where only the top 60 and ties make it to the weekend. You can bet on players who you think might make or miss this cut line.
The bookies will create theoretical head-to-head games between two or three players. You must then pick the player with the lowest score across the tournament. For example, if the match was Jon Rahm vs Scottie Scheffler and you pick Rahm to win, he needs to have a lower score after 72 holes to win the bet.
This is similar to round betting, but it’s based on who the players are paired with for that day and lasts for a single round. New markets will open for all four days, and all you need to do is choose the player with the lowest score.
Some of the bigger bookies have US Open golf betting odds for the player from a certain country or nation to have the lowest score. For example, backing Colin Morikawa to be the lowest American in the field would be one of our solid US Open tips.
To take the outright winner market to the next level, you can bet on how many they will win by. You don’t need to choose the player, just the number of strokes. Most bookies will bracket this. So, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 strokes, etc. It’s worth noting that runaway winners of the US Open are rare, so favour tight finishes rather than someone to dominate.
A straightforward bet; choose if there will be a hole-in-one at any time throughout the tournament. Bookies tend to favour yes over no, and odds will be around 4/7 for yes and 5/4 for no.
As it’s a major, there will be US Open golf betting odds for some wacky and wonderful markets. Things like wire-to-wire winners (same player leading on all four days) and the lowest 18-hole score of the week are two that we like to dabble in.
