This is one of the few games where there is still everything to play for in the final week of La Liga. Not only for Sevilla but also for Bilbao. Sevilla and Bilbao both sit in the Europa League qualification places, 6th and 7th respectively. Obviously, it is worth noting that for clubs of the stature of these two they are likely to breeze through qualification, as it is often against teams from much inferior countries and leagues.
Sevilla sit 2 points behind Getafe, so a win for them and Getafe failing to win would put them into the automatic spot in 5th on goal difference. Bilbao are mainly in threat by Real Sociedad who sit in 7th, 3 points behind them and with a better goal difference defeat for Bilbao here and a win for Sociedad against Espanyol would see them fall out of the European spots. Bilbao are only 3 points behind Sevilla but due to a much inferior goal difference of 15 its impossible they could leapfrog them.
Neither side is coming into the game with form to boast about. Sevilla have only 1 win in 5 and Bilbao only have 2, which is the main reasons these two teams find themselves under pressure after what should have been a straighter forward end to the season. Sevilla have a huge help with their prolific goal scorer in Ben Yedder, who has now netted just shy of 30 goals in all competitions for them. Bilbao also have a goalscroer in their ranks, as Inaki Williams has come to light this season in perfect timing as veteran Aduriz is starting to come the end of his career. Williams has been a match winner on many occasions for Bilbao this term and is likely to be in demand in summer still with youth on his side.
Ever Banega is the only guaranteed absentee for Sevilla. While Carrico and Andre Silva remain doubtful.
Bilbao have only midfielder Iturraspe as a doubt for the game, after he has missed the 7 previous games with a facial injury.
Potential Sevilla Starting XI: Vacilik, Gnagnon, Gomez, Kjaer, Sarabia, Gonalons, Mesa, Vasquez, Ben Yedder, Munir
Potential Bilbao Starting XI: Herrerin, Capa, Alvarez, Martinez, Berchiche, Benat, Garcia, Muniain, Garcia, Williams, Aduriz
Head To Head
- Sevilla have only 2 wins in the last 5 meetings between the two.
- Bilbao actually beat Sevilla away from home in the most recent meeting in the Copa Del Ray, by a mere 1-0 scoreline.
Key Stats & Facts
- Bilbao have won twice at Sevilla in the past 5 meetings.
- Sevilla’s last 3 games are averaging 4.7 goals per game.
- Bilbao have won the last two games to nil, with Williams getting a brace in one of the meetings.
- Sevilla 4/5
- Draw 12/5
- Bilbao 4/1
With a lot still on the line for these sides I would expect an eagerly anticipated tie. Sevilla are in less trouble than Bilbao, as if they lose, they still retain Europa League qualification, on the other hand a loss for Bilbao could see them slip out of the process. Therefore, I am keen to get on the away side given the price. At 4/1 the away side look very overpriced, given they have won the last 2 meetings and have a lot more to lose then Sevilla, therefore the price is definitely appealing.
The stats show these sides are very similar in terms of ability, given they are separated by just 3 points and have a similar H2H record, therefore I don’t see how the bookies can justify pricing up the away side as high as 4/1, and Sevilla as low as 8/11.
