Algeria v Nigeria Betting Preview, Odds & Tips

Algeria take on Nigeria in the Semi-Final of this years’ AFCON after coming through their Quarter Final against Ivory Coast via penalties. There isn’t much between the two sides in the betting with Algeria priced at 7/5 and Nigeria 11/5. Algeria will be hoping that their Extra time and Penalty exploits haven’t taken too much out of them. The Desert Foxes will need to be at their best if they are to overcome a strong Nigerian side.
Nigeria came through their Quarter Final against South Africa thanks to a 89th minute goal from William Troost-Ekong. That win was a big one against a side who had knocked out Egypt earlier in competition. Nigeria have been in this situation before and they’ll be hoping to go one better after being beaten in 4 out of their last 5 Semi-Finals in the AFCON.
This should be a fascinating game between to high class sides with the added pressure of a place in the Final looming over both sides.
Potential Algeria Starting XI: M’Bolhi, Atal, Bensebaini, Mandi, Benlamri, Mahrez, Fegouli, Bennacer, Guedioura, Belaili, Bounedjah
Potential Nigeria Starting XI: Akpeyi, Awaziem, Collins, Troost-Ekong, Omeruo, Ndidi, Etebo, Iwobi, Musa, Chuckquwze, Ighalo
Key Stats & Facts
- The last 2 meetings between these sides saw both teams score.
- Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr has won 2 of 3 encounters with Algeria with all of those matches having over 2.5 goals.
- Algeria 7/5
- Draw 2/1
- Nigeria 11/5
This game could be a cracker and we could see a few goals on both sides which would buck the trend of low scoring AFCON semi-finals. Both teams to score in this match is best priced 6/5 (William Hill) and I think this could be a good angle. Nigeria have scored 6 goals so far this tournament and conceded 6 and I think that they can grab themselves a goal even against an in-form Algeria defence. Algeria haven’t had many problems finding the back of the net in this tournament having scored 10 goals so far. I fancy the Desert Foxes to come out on top in this match and I think Both teams to score and Algeria to win at 5/1 (Betfair) is a good angle.
Algeria possess some star players and in Riyad Mahrez they have a player who can change a game. Mahrez has 2 goals in 5 appearances for his country this summer and he is 16/5 (Betway) to find the back of the net at any time in this game. Algeria will need their star man to step up and I think a stage like this is perfect for him.
As I said before this game could be a cracker and hopefully, we will see some goals. I’m backing Algeria to come out on top in this one as the form side in the competition.
