Two very different footballing styles will be on show on Tuesday night as Arsenal take on Cardiff looking to bounce back from their disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands on Manchester United. Cardiff meanwhile have had plenty of time to prepare for this match as they were dumped out of the FA Cup back in round 3.

The Gunners are unbeaten in 11 league games at home and have won their last 5 at the Emirates so they’ll be confident of winning against a Cardiff side who are battling relegation and suffered a big defeat away to Newcastle last time out.

In their winning run at home, Arsenal have opened the scoring in all of them and that could be key to getting a victory on Tuesday. I recently read that the Bluebirds have lost by a margin of over 1.5 goals in 4 of the 7 away Premier League games where they have conceded first. So if Arsenal stick to the script and find the back of the net first like many are expecting it could be a very tough night in the capital for Cardiff.

The Reverse fixture saw Arsenal come out on top 3-2 and that day Cardiff caused plenty of havoc with their set pieces. That’s definitely a route into the game for Cardiff particularly with the injuries in defence that Arsenal have. Shkodran Mustafi will most likely be the leader in central defence on Tuesday and his recent performances haven’t filled me with any confidence.

Team News

Arsenal’s injury crisis continued on Friday night as Laurent Koscielny and Sokratis were both forced off against United.

Cardiff Captain remains on the sidelines as he recovers from an appendix operation.

Oumar Niasse is expected to continue in attack for the Bluebirds.

Potential Arsenal Starting XI: Leno, Xhaka, Mustafi, Monreal, Maitland-Niles, Guendouzi, Torriera, Iwobi, Ramsey, Lacazette, Aubameyang

Potential Cardiff Starting XI: Etheridge, Peltier, Manga, Bamba, Bennett, Mendez-Liang, Arter, Camarasa, Ralls, Hoilett, Niasse

The Verdict

Arsenal will be relishing the chance of playing a team near the bottom of the league after Friday night’s examination from Manchester United. The Gunners will want to get off to a fast start and I think they’ll have too much quality for the visitors.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has a seriously good goal scoring record since moving to Arsenal and he bagged a goal in the reverse fixture in September. He is 10/3 (Betfred) to score first on Tuesday night which I think is a good option but if you wanted to play it a bit safer you can get 19/20 (SkyBet) for Aubameyang to score in the match and Arsenal to win.

Cardiff will have their work cut out and they’ll be asked to defend for the majority of the game and they will most likely pick up a couple of cautions with this approach.

Harry Arter tops the list of players to be booked with odds of 6/4 (Unibet) but I think Arsenal will pose a threat out wide through the likes of Iwobi and Aubameyang.

Iwobi is a player who can cause issues when he’s on song and I think he’ll enjoy the match up against Cardiff right back, Lee Peltier, who has only picked up 1 yellow card in 7 matches but his previous season saw him collect 11 cards across 30 games. Peltier to be shown a card is 17/10 (Unibet).

Recommended Bets

  • Aubameyang to score first 10/3 (Betfred)
  • Aubameyang to score and Arsenal to win 19/20 (Skybet)
  • Lee Peltier to be shown a card 17/10 (Unibet)
