Arsenal kick-off their Europa League campaign at home against Ukrainian minnows Vorskla on Thursday night. For those who don’t know, Vorskla finished 3rd in the Ukrainian Premier League last season. Arsenal are 1/8 to win the match whilst Vorskla are a huge 25/1 to overturn the Gunners.

Arsenal are definitely in a transition phase under Unai Emery, but they have been in good form of late winning their last two games away from home. Emery is likely to make changes to his first choice side in what should be an easier game for his side.

Fringe player Edward Nketiah could be in line for a start against the Ukrainian minnows. The youngster is 4/1 (Boyle sports)) to score first in the match.

It might be a bit unfair to just focus on Arsenal from a betting standpoint. Last season Arsenal did occasionally struggle against weaker opposition during games. Vorskla will be hoping that they can cause some issues for the Gunners and both teams to score in the match is 17/10 (Smarkets)

If Arsenal play to the standard of a Premier League team they should have no problem with beating Vorskla and they should do it by a few goals. The handicap of Arsenal -3 goals at 12/5 (Paddy Power) takes my interest as Arsenal will surely have too much quality for the Ukrainians.

The Gunners have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 5 competitive games but with Vorskla not scoring a goal in 4 of their last 5 away games you would fancy the Arsenal to keep a clean sheet here. Arsenal to win to nil is 4/6 (marathon bet)

Team News

Goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, will be in line to start his first game as an Arsenal player along with Uruguayan Midfielder, Lucas Torreira

Vorskla could be without Midfielder Artem Habelok and Striker Yuri Kolomoets.

Potential Arsenal Starting XI: Leno, Lichtsteiner, Holding, Sokratis, Montreal, Torreira, Guendouzi, Mkhitarayan, Nketiah, Welbeck, Iwobi

Potential Vorskla Starting XI: Shust, Artur, Chesnakov, Dallku, Perduta, Rebenok, Sklyar, Shapar, Kobakhidze, Kulach, Careca

Head to Head

This will be the first time the two sides will have met.

Betting Odds

  • Arsenal 1/8
  • Draw 37/4
  • Vorskla 33/1

The Verdict

This really should be an easy game for Arsenal against Vorskla and I’d be siding with the Gunners to make easy work of this match. Arsenal to score plenty of goals on Thursday night is the way I’d be going.
