This match on paper looks like it should be an easy victory for Arsenal but this is the FA Cup and there have been many shocks before in this competition. Blackpool come into this game in not very good form as they have only won one of their last six games and that was against non-league Solihull Moors in extra time but Blackpool’s record in the cup could help them here as in both cup competitions at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool are unbeaten in seven games going back to 2016. A key player for Blackpool will be Armand Gnanduillet who has netted 8 times in all competitions this season and will be important to Blackpool with his physical presence and goals if Blackpool are to get anything from this game.

Arsenal have had a decent start under new manager Unai Emery despite getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup by rivals Tottenham and being defeated by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool 5-1 at Anfield a week ago. This should be a straight forward task for Arsenal as they have sharp-shooter Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and also Alexandre Lacazette to call on as their forward options. Aubameyang has netted 16 goals in all competitions this season and has been in fine form although I think Arsenal will call upon Lacazette to help see off Blackpool who has got 8 goals so far despite featuring mainly from the bench.

Team News

Jordan Thompson is suspended for the home side.

Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Mesut Ozil are doubts for the away side.

Potential Blackpool Starting XI: Howard, Daniels, O’Connor, Heneghen, Taylor, Spearing, Callum, Bola, Delfouneso, Gnanduillet, Feeney.

Potential Arsenal Starting XI: Cech, Mustafi, Koscielny,  Sokratis, Lichtsteiner, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Torreira, Smith-Rowe, Ozil, Lacazette

Head To Head

  • Blackpool and Arsenal have met 4 times in the past with Arsenal winning every meeting.
  • Blackpool and Arsenal met in the EFL Cup earlier this season with Arsenal coming away 2-1 winners.

Key Stats & Facts

  • Arsenal have scored 9 goals in their last 5 games whereas Blackpool have only scored 4 goals in their 5 games, 3 of which were against Non-League Solihull Moors. There are 48 league places between these two sides.

Betting Odds

  • Blackpool 13/1 (Paddy Power)
  • Draw 21/4 (Unibet)
  • Arsenal 2/7 (BetVictor)

The Verdict

The last meeting between these two sides was a close affair and finished 2-1 but that was when Blackpool had come off a decent run of for. But in their current state, I do not fancy them to get much against this Arsenal side, who will be looking at the FA Cup for their silverware as they are out of the EFL Cup and are 13 points behind current league leaders Liverpool.

Emery will see this as the easiest competition they can win as they are also still in the Europa League. I fancy Blackpool to possibly nick a goal to make it interesting though.
